Just wanting to know if we will see GVG with ladder n rankings , like GW1 ?

Sorry to bang on about gw1 but the pvp there was just epic :

Arenas/HoH/AB/GVG

Also there was no EU/NA everyone fought everyone which was awsome

Not with the current staff working on the pvp system.

No gvg, no ctf, no tdm, no 2v2, no 3v3, just 5v5 conquest.

I think it’s easy to sum up the reasons why SPvP Guilds don’t even exist with two points:

1. No actual rewards that impact the other 90% of the game.

2. No GvG.

This. The gvg scene in gw1 is more active and competitive than what is left of gw2 pvp. It’s still alive and kicking, unlike this game’s pvp. No point anet try to bring gvg over when a) it would take them another 7 years, b) it’s already available in gw1 and c) it’s not the same anet that made gw1.

With current game its not possible to gvg. because 1st at all: there are no “healers” so battles can take 2 min and move system is more dynamic and faster than gw1.

And how does such an established legendary guild like yours cope with no GVG ?

Does the last pride find spvp good/bad/average ?

Also the map with the guild lord could be made into some kind of GVG map i believe ?

I suggest u do what I and many others have done, find other games to pvp in GW2 clearly isn’t a game if you want to experience pvp in more ways than 5v5 conquest.

The ANet devs made some really good counterpoints on why they focused on conquest mode… that the other modes simply weren’t fun. In particular I think an official deathmatch game mode would be disastrous as every would just immediately pop their elites and it would be a huge cluster… well.. you know what.

I also agree with their statement that some of the other popular game modes can be implemented within the conquest framework, but we shall see for ourselves with the next map which will be CTF-oriented.

I also believe they can make a GvG-esque game mode within the conquest framework since if you really think about it, GvG was essentially a hybrid game mode in itself with 1 capture node (flag stand), a CTF element of flag running, and the end-game guild lord mechanic. That said, I do not think the current map layout of LoF would do it justice. The outer points on these maps are simply too close and too easily accessible to both sides at all times.

Well at the end of the day i think feb 26th is a huge patch in terms of spvp and i personally hope it goes well

I see this coming up all the time :/ can anyone explain to me what the difference between GVG is vs doing paids with your guild…. and just getting top on leaderboards for QP ? :/

It sounds like there will be a ranking system in place soon.. and match making is already in place.. is this all about e-phallus ? :/

Have to agree with OP. Also there was more than just one size group PvP. Its a huge let down in PvP in GW 2. Guild vs Guild was one of the most awesome things, not only because it was 8v8 which I find very nice number for PvP but also because it was in guild halls. I’m not sure what Anet (as much as I like em) was thinking, lets make Guild Wars 2 without everything that made Guild Wars 1 so fun. Its like making Counter Strike 2D strategy.

And gvg wasnt in guild war’s ay one.

We wont see any gvg type game untell guild halls and even then it wont be the same gvg as in gw1 because of how different the games are.

The majority of gw1 big gvg guilds will NEVER like it because there leet skills at gw1 matter little in GW2. (Hell my guild would probably stomp them easy if there not playing now do to are experience with the game)

i dont think we need GvG, but some sort of GvG style map for standard 5v5 rotation could be nice and i dont mean like Foefire map i mean really focused on defending/killing Lord

aswell as CTF or TDM, sweet memories are from WoW… why we cant get WoW pvp system with GW2 same-items-for-all and playstyle? i really like GW2, but spvp overall is just a big fail

If they would implement GW1 style PvP in GW2, this game would be perfect… HA in GW2 would be boss…

I dont really see that new map as constituting a new game mode, and i dont really see that new game mode or “objective” being capture the flag.

I do definetly like the look of that color palette though. This game is borderline dark fall as far as pvp maps go. So kitten dark and dreary and depressing. The gloom on mist and everymapexceptcapricorn is just omega-level. I have no idea why they took this art direction. It doesnt make pvp any more cool, if anything it just reinforces the idea that pvpers are all hardcore elitist kittens who arent allowed to have fun and take everything super serial.

Going from lions arch and everyotherpvemap to mist and the pvp maps is just like falling down a never ending kittenabyss.

It isn’t a new mode as in you can hop in and play CtF or Conquest, but the map itself is a new game type that uses classic CtF mechanics with a Conquest twist. Unless their introduction is completely foobar the only way to score points is by playing CtF, and Conquest of points simply speeds up or slows down the scoring.
