Will you ever fix pet respawn?
On the bright side, you have just triggered traps that you might have walked into? Just saying there is a silver lining here. Not to mention it should be fairly easy to swap pets and avoid a death. It would also be possible to use movement skills to bypass the in combat reduction momentarily so you only miss 2-3 seconds of travel time. Is it ideal? No. I agree on that front. Just try to view the tactical advantages for the moment, until if/when they decide it warrants a fix.
Last match it actually happened to me as the trap druid so no bright side. It just sucks from both perspectives.

Which also means that you impeded/slowed their response time
In all seriousness, yes it is annoying, but it is far from the most pressing of concerns at this time. At least it is a problem that is tolerable.
Is this the only time you can be in combat on respawn? I fixed a bug some months back where just getting cleaved to death would leave you in combat on respawn for any class. I still experience this bug on Live though, but it could only be when I’m playing ranger and I haven’t noticed.

Wow, didn’t expect a response on this subject so quickly. I would recommend moving this to Ranger forum though for more in depth information. As far as I can tell, when a Ranger falls in combat and respawns, the pet first reanimates at the position of the player’s death. This momentary spawn allows for an opening in which the pet can be hit either directly or by triggering ambient effects, essentially placing the player in an immediate combative state.

Just with rangers as far as I can tell. It’s possible other pets like necro minions might do it as well though.

I know exactly of the ranger pet respawn, but suspect there is more related to the in-combat on respawn issue.

Necro minions should die when you’re defeated, and they don’t respawn like ranger pets.

At the moment I am not aware of this problem on any other class I play (mainly engi). So it would atleast be very rare on those. I would say it happens 95% of the time for ranger.
On engis keep in mind that mines and stuff like that could legitimately cause a similiar experience but not bugged in this case.

I’ll check the mines, these may not clean up when you are defeated.

Ancestral Grace (Staff #3) also put you in combat.

I’ve respawner in combat on dh but cannot 100% say I didn’t have a stray trap activate. I did drop combat 3s after respqwn though

A yeah I still spawn in combat some times. Not very common but it does cause some random stress when it pops up.

I stay in combat many times on respawn as condi necro, no minions. Maybe something about staff mark trigers?
Looks like any damage you deal after being defeated will cause you to be in combat after you respawn. This could include engineer mines, necro downed 3 well, etc.

It would be really nice to have the pet respawn bug fixed.
I’m testing a fix for being in combat on respawn internally. Suprisingly, ranger pets getting hit when you respawn does not put you in combat.

Then what’s putting my ranger in combat nearly every time I get killed in a team fight? I run a power build, I’m not using traps , and it still happens when using strength of the pack instead of entangle so the only condi’s on them would be non ticking things like vuln.
Update: The feedback of my post is about a PvE experience that I though it was relevant to the topic, didn’t noticed we are in the PvP forum until it was already posted and I guess that can change everything.

After 5500 hours played as a Warrior, I’ve never been in-combat after respawn, so I don’t think it’s related to every profession.
Conditions doesn’t seem to affect in-combat respawn. As a personal strategy I always hit the enemy with a 20seconds bleed (5Longbow warrior) if I know that I’m going to die in the next second (example: I have poison, 100 health and can’t cure poison). I use that bleed to buy me time to run back from wherever it’s the waypoint before the enemy has reset (the damage keeps him in-combat), and sometimes I even change skills in the meantime because I am not in combat even though the enemy is still bleeding because of me.

This respawn in combat has been happening to me for a very long time. It’s nearly every time I respawn on nearly every class.
This Bug still exists and its frustrating. I’m DH and the Pet always triggers my pre-placed Traps at respawn of the Ranger so i have cooldowns/get In-Fight and I’m in disadvantage for the next fight about the Point. Especially in ranked Games this Bug is an absolute No-Go…
I can confirmed the bug still exists.
ah the pet, the best mechanic in the whole game
why wouldnt you love it when you 1-1 a ranger at stillness on temple and he gets knocked down, but this ridiculously bad AI pet stays at the buff and keeps attacking you and you cant cap it for a whole minute until the pet finally decides to port to the druid
