WvW gets a new borderland.

PvP gets a new gamemode.

Sounds fair.

Don’t come here complaining about that “this is not the GvG you wanted”. Guess what, you’re not the target audience here. GvG was a PvP gamemode in GW1, and it’ll be a PvP thing in GW2. I don’t see the problem here, you get your own share of content too.

PvP desperately needed guild content.
Most guild updates are PvE related, but there are a fair amount of things for WvW in the Art of War branch. You can even claim a land on the borderlands! What can a guild currently offer for PvP players? An influence boost for Pvp activities which you can spend on.. more influence boosts? Even our leaderboards are individualistic. This expansion can finally encourage players to create PvP guilds.

GvG was a great success in GW1, what WvW players call ‘GvG’ is just a simple zerg clash.

But our guild has more than 5 members, we want 15v15!
Could you please think about the issues for a while? Just to name a few:

  • Combat is balanced around 5v5.
  • Smaller guilds would never have the chance to try the gamemode, alienating the majority of the playerbase. Besides, you want to convince me that guilds in this game have exactly 15 members so with that roster size the entire guild could fight together?
  • As someone who played a lot of GW1’s 8v8 formats, having eight people online at the same time for a long period of time was really hard for any guild I’ve been in. We often had to take 1-2 subs despite the fact that our guild size was never below 20-30 members. 5 is an ideal party size for PvP.
  • Fewer teams = less competition. This also means less teams will be near your rating level resulting at longer/dead ques. With a 15v15, ques could be dead for ~20 hours of the day, easily.

We don’t know exactly how things will work. Maybe multiple guild teams can enter the que contributing towards a shared guild rating so nobody’s left out.
Or people could just simply realize the fact that you can be in 5 guilds at the same time so if you’re not in the main roster of your main guild, you can just make another one solely for GvG purposes.

A good side effect would be that the current LB, which are awful for solo players at the moment, would be ok for a guild LB: it would reward activity and prevent guilds from only queuing with their 5 (or 8 ) top players, and actually show the skill within the guild.

It isn’t even GvG…it is SPvP…. Everyone keeps saying and complaining about the new GvG mode…IT ISN’T GVG. Just because it sounds similar to what it was, doesn’t make it GvG. as they stated, it is a new sPvP mode. Has nothing to do with GvG. People complaining because they can’t represent their guild with only 5 people..lol? Good thing it isn’t GvG. You want GvG, go to OS like everyone else. GvG suggests that you are challenging and trying to beat other guilds…the Q will be random and Solo’ers can go into the game mode too..amazingly it will be the same procces as the rest of SPvP. Full solo teams aloud in new game mode. Want to know why? Because it isn’t GvG. A million useless posts going on right now.

As stated above. Please exit our forums.

PvP is balanced around 5v5? Some could argue it’s hardly balanced at all. The vast majority of posts on this very forum are talking about 3 classes, 1 amulet, 2 runes, and 3 sigils.

Smaller guilds couldn’t try the game mode? If a guild is only 5 players, why can’t they GvG in a custom arena? Why can’t they use conquest or courtyard?

But muh GW1z!? This is Guild Wars 2…

Fewer Teams? Introduce something people want to play and people will play it. There are fewer teams in PvP because the entire game, meta, conquest, etc is old and stale and everyone’s bored with it.

So there are your arguments in a nutshell…

Now perhaps what should have happened here was GvG not be mentioned by ANet at all. Perhaps they should have played up the MOBA/Gods angle to stronghold instead of trying to tie it into a game mode they have ignored/refused to support for 2.5 years and that the players have turned into something of their own creation like a proper sandbox mmo should do.

I agree with many of the issues you bring up, but the issues you’re trying to use as proof for why 10v10 (8v8, 5+v5+) won’t work don’t even work in 5v5 in the current game mode!

ANet needs to find a way to make PvP not feel like an isolated game mode completely seperate from the rest of GW2 and they need to find a way to at least acknowledge their WvW playerbase exists.

In the meantime, why don’t we retract GvG from anything at all to do with Stronghold and wait till actual details about any of this are released?

You feel ignored?!?! You got an entire new map?!? That is a hella lot more than sPvP got with stronghold.

As for the rest of what you said….
PvP is just as isolated to the rest as WvW is to the rest and PvE to the rest…. Each players has a specific part of the game that they like the best and mostly that is all they play in their isolated world. Very small portion of the population play more than 1 type. PvE’ers (for some reason) think it is optimal to grind out all the dungeon dailies everyday (Takes over 4 hours). Same thing every day over and over, monsters don’t do anything different and the dungeon doesn’t bring up any additional skill reqs; but they still love it..

They said its like a mix of GvG and FA from GW1. Just because you don’t understand what GvG is doesn’t mean they shouldn’t mention it. Anet has never recognized player “GvG” as a successor to the original, why should they now when they clearly intended stronghold to be its successor? I can’t wait to see what they came up with because I liked both GvG and FA from the first game.
