Silentshoes (Thief), Wind of the Woods (condi ranger)

Everyone fantasizes that once the matchmaking system is fixed, and if they work hard, they will rise in rank closer and closer to the top.
We are so used to MMO level that rises with experience. But you have to put that expectation away in a true Elo-ranked, MMR system.
IN fact, in an accurate system with lots of players, you will tend to rise or fall to your natural ability level and stay there for a long time. Typically forever for most casual players.
Most matches will be close, you will lose about as many as you win, and your overall rank will tend to remain the same, month to month.
The bright light is that if you really do work hard and actually get a lot better, you will slowly rise higher.
But it will be nothing at all like the rise you see leveling in PvE, or in other MMO Pvp games like Wow or Rift, in which you continually gain a gear advantage and therefore appear to “get better”, when you really don’t…you just hit harder, and resist damage better, from your gear.

Actually I am continually dropping. You must be at the top 100 and get grouped against easy wins to post this. Especially at less populated hours I get grouped against a stacked team while I am stuck in the team where 3 people run off point to chase 1 guy. I don’t expect to raise high in rank, but I do expect to have at the least a 50/50 win ratio. Not lose 5-10 games depending on play time to win one.
I would agree that if I lose games there is definitely something wrong with the system. I consider myself to be ‘good at games’ and probably in the top 80% of GW2 players by virtue of [fill this in later].
What I’m saying is that I’m good and Anet needs to build a system that recognizes that instead of punishing me personally because they hate me.

It’s not personal. You get stuck with random people and no matter how good one person is if the people you’re with aren’t good, you’re unlikely to win. Thing of teams like a machine. That machine is only as strong as the sum of its parts, and if a cog or gear is rusty or damaged, that team isn’t going to perform nearly as well as the other team. Even if the gauge or buttons are in pristine condition.

You are rewriting what OP says, right?
However, the best way to learn is being teamed against better plaqyers.

Guys I’m pretty sure this dude is trolling but I’m going to bite on it anyways.
Not really I want it to get fixed so I dont match vs 40s vs 12s
the shouts for a working system are not about leveling up nor is it about ranking up the ladder and most pvp players dont take care about that. sure is it interesting where my position on the ladder is but i dont care about the ephallus that much.
the main issue is about getting decent matches with players at your rating.
i know i am not the best player, but i know there are many around my level and to me the indication of a good working elo/glicko (devil i hope its a glicko) mmr is when it faces me with those almost equal players.
related on soloQ:
the system atm is making a group of 5 and then searches for opponents. now as it is like that i will mostly get unequal matches because there is still the possibility of getting a team around 90-70% and facing someone around 100-300 or vice versa.
so the separated teammaking of the actual system is the big main problem right now – because it is highly demotivating wether facing good or bad opponents.
making a group of 10 and forming teams after that can be very good solution.
the problem with teamQ still remains, but i think this is an issue with participating teams.
The OP has a good point. Someone in the top ~50 ranks should expect to get worse teammates than the other team nearly every single game, since the system will (reportedly) mix players so that the combined total MMR is roughly even for each team. If two people from the top 50 are in the same queue, they should be very likely to end up on opposite teams.

Look at you kittening up quote.
And yes I’m from warhammer. I am literally a tiny figurine that a nerd painted in his basement.

Then you must have a more active social life than I do. Congratulations!
However, I don’t care about the rank. Just make sure I don’t have to kill heartseeker spamming thieves anymore. I feel dirty inside, as if I was beating children.

Pretty sure I transferred my witchhunter from badlands to whatever server you were on just to duel you. If you were the witchhunter or witchelf, cant remember which.

.
1, Try playing some other games. Like SC2 (Yes I can compare two different genres – we are talking about skill x ranking). IF you are good YES your rank will be better.
→2, So you are saying that if you are a good player you will probably have better rank than other players and if you will get better you will also have better rank? wow! no kidding!

Chulpac,
No, that wasn’t what I was saying.
Don’t get your hopes up too high.
They can improve the match making system, but the low population issue will still create uneven teams.

You clearly are someone who gets carried all the time.
And how did you come up with that from what I originally posted?
