Traits and abilities causing heals, boons, conditions and damage being passively applied is sucking the fun and life out of pvp.

HoT amplified this issue 100x with elite specs and all of the overloaded goodies they got.

  • Combo fields are irrelevant now
  • Healing just happens when you are near a druid or somehow got regen
  • Well timed abilities get randomly blocked or blinded by a guardian spamming traps or aegis coming off CD
  • Professions no longer have clear counters due to elite specs covering most of their weaknesses
  • Balance has been compromised to selling expansions, someone without HoT has maybe one or two viable builds in PvP and that isnt a coincidence.

All of the nuances and counterplay provided in the past has been nullified, because while yes dodging key abilities is still possible, there is so much kitten constantly flying around that you run out of tools to play around them.

Im begging the anet balancing team to do a pass over all of the abilities and builds puking up boons, heals, and condis. Make this game interesting again.

(Disclaimer: Im not saying any of these things are inherently overpowered, just that they lack clarity and counterplay so please read carefully before typing your “git good” reply. Ive been an avid player for 4 years….I just love this game with a passion and want to see it rise to the potential I know it has. Im still writing long forum posts to worlds least transparent developers :P)

Do you think Anet will listen to you? As long Tools likes their gameplay, this will never change. It is already been a whole year on this meta and nothing changed, in fact it went far south and got uglier than before.

Good luck!!!

Elite specs were actually nerfed with the last patch, but yes I agree. It’s not enough. Elite specs are not overpowered in terms of numbers, but by DESIGN. They’re a direct upgrade to core specs. I think you can nerf elite specs to the ground and they would still be superior to core specs.

Before elite specs, you had tradeoffs. Now you don’t. Elite specs give the player everything they want in one build: heals, boons, condis. Nothing but spam. They take the player’s skill away.

Unfortunately, I find that this game tends to cater to pseudo-competitive kiddies who just want to farm wins. This is where the “git gud” culture comes from.

There’s also the issue of there only being one elite spec per class for a system designed for multiple elite specs that should focus on one area. So what we have now are elite specs that brought a bit of everything and a direct upgrade most of the time.

The biggest example of this is tempest, a front lines support line where most of the skills and overloads do more damage and have higher DPS than core alternatives.

This might be remedied when we get the next expac and see reworks of things like harmonious conduit, the damage from warhorn replaced with useful boons/effects and the same with air and fire overload.

These two statements somehow don’t fit together. If there is a lack of counterplay, then how a guardian (or at this point anyone else) can defend himself so well at random?
First, if an attack is blocked then two things happened: It was not well timed OR the opponent just reacted to it and evaded/blocked/blinded it.
Some classes have more than enough ways to deal with what you said. Thieves, mesmers, revenants, druids... they all can escape on demand quite easily if they know when the time is right to disengage. If damage is facetanked then of course you will fall pray to all that is dropped into the fray. I tell ya, disengaging in combat does wonders.

Guardian is meant for jolly crusading.
