since everyone is saying how overpowered warrior is, i decided to send my warrior into solo arena to check out how he will fare.

i have not done any solo arena since the reset so my MMR must be default.

anyway, after a few minutes, a game came, it was 5 vs 5 on temple of the silent storm. whee!

red team 243 – 501 blue team
41 thief 80 – 190 guardian 9
11 engi 70 – 180 mesmer 16
12 ele 55 – 175 warrior (me) 32
9 ele 40 – 145 mesmer 19
15 ele 20 – 120 thief 7

will play more solo arena and see what i get.

the scores was kinda close at start, around 125 vs 125 like that, but then i think they gave up half way.

yeah. it would be a sad first solo arena match for me if i am on that team.

I just had a SoloQ with 3 necros, 1 mesmer, and 1 ranger. I have never seen so many pets in my life.

We almost won, but even if we won, it felt like losing trying to fight those classes all at once.

okies it has been a while but i tried out my 2nd round of solo arena since the reset.

it was around 9.20am here (my time zone is GMT +8:00) and there is almost no waiting time. maybe less than 10 seconds.

so i think the waiting times are much longer when i tried to do it during my night time. (after 9pm till 12am my time)

i guess i got luck and was put in a team of 3 warriors. it was a 5 vs 5 match but the mesmer and elementalist left when i screen cap the score board.

we played the forest map with animals
red 501 – 284 blue
10 engi 225 – 160 thief 29
32 war (me) 165 – 135 thief 10
35 war 165 – 80 ranger 4
10 engi 150 – ?? ele ???
17 war 100 – ?? mesmer ??

though this may be my 2nd game of solo arena, but it feels like a team with more heavies have a better chance?

Why is this thread a thing?

Because Deimos hadn’t made a thread for a few days, or people started pointing out that as someone who openly says "I don’t ranked matches" they need to stop commenting on balance with respect to ranked matches.

Deimos: If you want to discuss your games, maybe play a bunch more and save up your data - making one post with actual content is almost definitely more worthwhile than bumping a diary thread every time you play.

aaah but i dun really play solo arena often. maybe i should try at least once per day and write up my battle logs here.

it is only my 2nd solo arena (still no team arena since reset yet since my casual guild members are still enjoying daily dungeons runs WvW PvE etc ) game though so i have nothing much to share. well, besides being luck to have heavies in my team and not faced off a team with more heavies yet.

for the 1st solo arena game i was using rabid amulet + zerker jewel

2nd solo arena game (today morning) i tried settlers amulet + rampager jewel instead after seeing Locuz write up about a very powerful build that have 1k health per second. i tried to make something similar to that but then decided i still like shouts more and i thought to myself why not give settler’s amulet a try?

and so for my 2nd solo arena game (since reset) today morning i used this

your 1k health per second warrior inspired me to try out settler’s amulet for my warrior but in the end i still stuck to using shouts instead though. no where near 1k health per second yet.

sorry couldn’t resist putting his name up there. he was the 5th member to join before the game started. i thought we gonna have a 4 vs 5 situation.

their guardian was bunkering middle point, hence the lower score. their guardian bunkered mid point so good in late game, we end up capping A & C instead.

since i am casual i dun really know what builds everyone is running. i think there is at least one spirit ranger in our team cos i recall seeing green colored allied spirits.

at start, i charged the mid point, along with another team member, i think one took home point while another 2 attempted to control the skyhammer.

i tried to offer help by running to contested points. but i guess i forgot to check the mini map. >.<

i should check the mini map to see where my team mates are. there was once i was halfway running to home point when it turned blue, so i ran to other points then. i used long sword 2 to travel around quickly.

the skyhammer switched owners a few times but i think our team mates had better success with the hammer seeing they have higher points.

hmmm i guess have been lucky with my solo arena adventures so far. 3 games, 3 wins. no complete landslide defeat yet.

this time, our team had 2 heavies (2 warrior), their team had 1 heavy (guardian). in solo arena, is it really the team with more heavies have higher chance? i need to play more games to find out for myself.

oh i think the warrior in our team was playing with banners since i saw banners and there are no warriors on red team.

hmmm that’s it for now i guess.

Usualy the team with more number of good players win. I´ve played in a team with 3 mesmers, 1 thief and 1 guardian and whe won against a team of 3 guards, 1 ranger and 1 mesmer.
Its not the number of heavy classes that give you victory.

anyway, i just had my 4th solo arena game since the reset.

entered solo arena queue at 11:00am and found a match at 11:02am. the game ended at 11:14am so the match took around 10 minutes i guess.

well i was not sure what was going on the whole match, i only remembered me charging with some to the middle, i think many fought at the middle for a while before we won and held mid.

they ran else where and left me to defend mid.

died once in my 4th solo arena game, for my 3rd solo arena game (skyhammer) i think i died at least 3 times? once when i got overloaded with conditions, 2 times when i got pulled and fell to my death.

i dun remember going to far point (mines) so i only spent most of my time and mid and home (hendge). their ranger is a spirit ranger since i recall fighting lots of red spirits. during mid keep battle as my adrenaline was kinda refilled very fast so i kept on plastering the mid with combustion shot. the burning should not be too strong since i am using settlers amulet now instead of rabid amulet.

in this game, i did manage to use healing signet active heal 2 times since my warrior is near death, 1 time i managed to survive as no one was chasing my warrior, another time, can’t remember the other time though.

this time it felt more like an evenly matched teams as the scores difference were not that big. both teams had 2 heavies, 1 warrior, 1 guardian. we even had an elementalist, the so called “weak” profession at the moment. they had all the “good” professions too.

i will need to play more games.
will record here accordingly if i can remember the details.

by the way, if i can manage to land in a team with someone from these forums who recognizes me, i think this would mean:
1. low sPvP population?
2. i am infamous?
3. both?

what do you think?

with 0 conditiondmg burning is already strong.. so ca. 250 less doesnt affect burning that much.

If you’re so casual and, by definition, do not play the game all that much and have other things to do, why is it every time I look at the PvP forums you’re posting in every thread?

really? hmmm maybe i should swap between few amulet types and check the tool tip damage to observe the difference. a lot of people carry condition removals nowadays.

well i only did 4 solo arena games after the rest. before that i played a few games, not many.

here’s a screen cap of my sPvP stats.
i just reached rank 33 recently a few days ago i think. i was rank 30 – 32 for quite a while. i need 15,000 rank points to the next rank level. that means 15 team arena wins. i dun do team arenas so it will take quite a while heheh.

during beta weekends, i only played sPvP and not PvE, after launch, i played PvE and not sPvP though, one of the reasons being warriors were always focused down by other professions, i found my warrior kissing the floor often, i played 8 vs 8 often maybe that is the reason why.

it was until sPvP daily and monthly were introduced that made me try out sPvP again. but i explored the mesmer profession back then cos i thought maybe illusions and stealth may help me to survive longer, escape battles and avoid kissing the floor often.

when sPvP monthly was first introduced, a minimum of 3 tournament games was required to clear sPvP monthly. back then, many, many months ago, i know my warrior definitely has not a very good chance to win tournament games so i trained my mesmer for that job. to my surprise i manage to get 3/3 tournament wins eventually.

eh, 40 solo arena games is certainly more than me, only 4 solo arena games since reset.

no, i play my warrior mostly nowadays. my first and main PvE character has always been my warrior.

in these forums, a lot of people have been saying warriors are overpowered, i told them warriors are not overpowered, they say i only play in 8 vs 8 hotjoin games so what i say does not matter.

so i decided to try out my warrior in “tournament games” such as solo arena since i do not have a team for team arena yet. just to see if warriors are indeed as overpowered as many players claimed to be.

okies i just had my 5th solo arena game.

10.02am entered queue
10.08am found match
10.18am ended match

oh and i decided to try out clerics amulet + rampager jewel instead of settlers amulet + rampager jewel. someone said the combustion shot burning was already quite strong without extra condition damage.

since this is my first solo arena game on this map, i was not sure what to do.
during 2 minutes pre match i tried to discuss tactics with the team, someone asked about home and mid (raven). so they got that covered. i volunteer to run orb and help out home and mid if possible.

so i changed my signet master into warrior’s sprint since i wanna enjoy faster movement speed running the orb.

so i charged for the orb along with a team mate at the start, i mistakenly activated signet of rage (i intend to keep the passive since i wanna run orb, swiftness will not work and i want the extra adrenaline regen) but it does not really matter anyone since red team managed to get the orb and ascended the first orb.

red team was leading for a while but it seems like blue team had better point fighters and captured the points so more points for us blue team.

quickly, i ran back to the orb in order to not let red team get the orb again, me and another team mate fought around the orb, as usual i plastered the orb with combustion shot fire field whenever my adrenaline bar is full 3 bars, without activating signet of rage, the speed in which it fills up seems to be much faster.

i saw an opening and made for the orb, some red team warrior tried to melee me so i send them running with “fear me!” yes i got the orb! i switched to long sword and begin running away.

i ran up the platform, saw bear being contested, no longer blue color, so i turned left and ran towards raven instead since it was blue. scored 30 points for blue team! yes!

blue team was leading now by 110+ vs 80+ i think.

i continued to make my way towards to orb, not to let red team members get the orb. i fought around the orb, and made a grab for the orb when “fear me!” recharge is finished. again i send them running away with “fear me!” when they red team members tried to melee me.

another 30 points for the blue team, however before i reached raven (blue) i think at least 3 of them were behind me, hitting me with everything they got, i escaped from raven via the middle balcony (orb’s direction) and yet they still continue to chase me. O_O

i think i caught their attention as a blue team orb runner or something.

anyway they did not manage to put down my warrior. but their warrior got the orb somehow, and they were escorting him up. my “fear me!” is ready so i waited for red team warrior to get up to the middle platform. i jumped the warrior, sent him running down to ground floor with “fear me!” and i think my blue team mates downed him very quickly within a few seconds. team work yay!

i stole the orb and quickly ascended it. my 3rd orb ascended for the team yay!
at this point i think blue team holds all 3 points now. i guess my team mates are really good at capturing points and killing people. our blue team top scorer thief is a rank 45 player! O_O

for the next orb, one of our elementalist got the orb from the pedestal so i accompany the ele to ascended the orb. but no red team players came to stop us though. i think our blue team members were spawn camping them. O_O

the game ended after a few more seconds after our elementalist ascended the orb as the scores was 490+ already.

okies i think that sums up my first spirit watch experience on the solo arena, my 5th solo arena game.

as for the logic / speculation that i was saying earlier, that having a team with more heavies might help a team win, it is proven not so accurate in this match, seeing that:

red team had 3 heavies: 2 warriors, 1 guardian
blue team had 1 heavy: 1 warrior

also, the standard rule dictates that elementalists does not help the team win, we see
red team: 0 elementalist
blue team: 2 elementalist (rank 20, rank 26)

hmmmm okies that’s all i have for today i guess.

as for my casual guild members who tried out sPvP recently, it seems like they are back to their PvE dungeons farming routine and WvW roaming.

the sPvP fever died out so fast.

i dun have enough time for those (daily PvE dungeons runs, WvW zerg, roam, small ops etc) but i will find some time for 9 more cof path 1 runs over 9 days though, since this month, the PvE monthly has a 10/10 dungeon monthly achievement.

i’m too casual to stick to some daily dungeon routine like the rest of them.

will still do some sPvP dailies until sPvP monthly is completed, then do some solo arena and report back here.

maybe i should skip PvE dailies and do sPvP dailies only since the rewards are the same now. 5 silvers, mystic coin, karma vial, a chance at gem store items. and i think sPvP daily have a better chance to get some free gem store item too.

i am looking forward to the new living story and have sPvP have to offer in the coming months though.

okies let me see if i can recap what happened this morning. its 3.29pm over here now.

my 6th solo arena game kicked off with the skyhammer map, thank goodness it was a 5 vs 5 fair fight at the start.

i asked in team chat, what’s our plan?
our rank 51 warrior said, “this is skyhammer, no plans.”
i went, “hahaahh okies. we will improvise then!”

i asked about who get home, etc.
our rank 51 warrior said he will get home.
our rank 42 thief said he will assault far.
so i decided to charge mid point B then.

10 seconds remaining, i said “gl hf team!”

our rank 42 thief, “you seem awfully cheery”
me, “ooo i’m a casual player”
me, “this is my 6th solo arena game since reset”

and off we go our separate ways. oh i warhorn 4 and 5 the four of us, for grape justice too. rank 51 warrior was at home point entrance so he did not get my boons.

me and our necromancer (minion master) charged for mid, our rank 42 thief went for far and i think our rank 17 thief is assaulting the skyhammer control tower.

me and necromancer fought at mid point B, we managed to hold it for a while. i think our rank 17 thief got hold of the skyhammer for a while too, but later on it seems like red team controlled skyhammer more often.

we were leading, about 150+ vs 80+ i think, and holding mid and home.

not sure where our necro went, i was alone at mid for some time.

then one of their engineers attacked me, i fought on the point, trying to stay alive and shooing the engineer away. skyhammer verbal warning came, so my warrior ran out of the cannon radius to avoid damage.

went back, i think the point became neutral, then the thief joined the fight. my warrior can’t handle 2 people and overwhelmed with conditions, well being a casual player i deemed berserker stance too non casual for my usage (me shouts warrior) so i did not have that utility skill equipped.

i tried to flee but the remaining conditions put down my warrior. the thief came and finished off my warrior.

rank 51 warrior questioned why we lost mid.
me, “i was outnumbered”

upon respawning, i went out, trying to help out the best i can.

at one time, we lost all points, red was holding 2 points, but we were still leading by 100+ points i think, the advantage we got earlier, so we fought hard to recapture the points.

pretty chaotic fight for me, at one time, our necro was downed by the stairs, someone was trying to finish off our necro, my fear me! was on cool down so i did not try to revive since i can’t cc the enemy.

for some reason i turned back to have a look and saw the enemy no where in sight, another team mate was reviving the necro, so i quickly ran forward to help revive our necro too.

i decided to go far point to see if i can help, since the thief and engineer at mid point seems to be a bit hard to handle for my warrior.

reaching far point, i think our scores is like 400+ or something. i plastered the area with combustion shot, our rank 42 thief is fighting there, their warrior is bunkering there the whole game i think. another one of their thief is fighting there was well.

oh, i think another team mate was fighting there too, cos when i reached there, i saw a team mate reviving a downed team mate, their red team warrior was in the midst of finishing off our team mate. i quickly leaped forward, “fear me!” and helped to revive. revive success yay!

after some time, i think one of my fear me! got the thief and the thief fell down the glass panel because i saw some yellow numbers and the thief was no where to be seen, the warrior was remaining.

shortly after that me and our thief put down the warrior and finally finished off the warrior. we reached 500 points shortly after that.

before this happened, i can see in the guild chat.

blue team our average rank is 38

i guess this shows higher rank team may not always win? O_O
but we blue team had 2 warriors on our team though.

Yeah the scene on skyhammer came out good but you should hire a stuntman, that map is hideous, i don’t think it is a a coincidence that teldo came back right when mighty meak decided to work on such an epic piece of cinematic entertainment… 2+2

yes, i’m playing guild wars 2 from malaysia, hence the gmt +8:00 time zone.
most of the players in my casual guild are from malaysia too. but they dun spvp often.

errr play together i think i am not ready for team arena yet ahhaha.
still too hardcore for me. i still mostly play hotjoin 8 vs 8 since it is the fastest.

well, i certainly did not kill everyone, since i believe my warrior is built for personal sustain and certain team support. i like to set up fire field then blast them thoroughly for area might so my team members can deal more damage.

as for the good comment, i think the thief meant to say that i did okay as a casual player, i can’t really remember he said “you’re good” or “you did good” or “you’re okay” etc durrr next time i should screen cap the dialog.

finished my 7th solo arena game.
it was a 4 vs 5 though.

red 259 – 501 blue
63 necro 100 – 135 warrior (me) 33

they had a 3rd warrior, after 3 minutes into the game, i checked the scoreboard and noticed their 3rd warrior is missing. dunno if disconnected or rage quit or got real life emergency issues etc, but the score after 3 minutes was red 90 – 183 blue.

okies this i got screen cap the dialog, though our blue team members are not very talkative, but they play well and good i guess.

9.26am, match ended, around 9 minutes since game started around 9.17am

since it became a 4 vs 5 match after 3 minutes into the game, there was not much contest, i did my best to ascended as many orbs as possible to end the match faster.

hmmm nothing much to report this time i guess, as usual, i swapped signet mastery for warrior’s sprint and did not activate signet of rage since i wanna run the orb often.

at start, we charged for the orb and attempt to grab the orb, midst the confusion (not mesmer condition) our ele grabbed the orb and ran towards mid point raven so i proceed to run along to escort our ele.

others were still fighting elsewhere, raven mid point is empty, so i proceed to cap it while the ele waited for the raven mid point to turn blue before ascending the orb. then we parted ways.

i exited via the right side to check out wolf far point to see if it is empty so i could get a quick decap and cap maybe. saw some red team member there so i ignored it and ran for the orb.

one of their warriors was there so we fought over the orb, i think i took about a minute before i successfully grabbed the orb. then i ran to mid point raven to ascend. just like before, fear me! helped me here to shoo him away while i grab the orb. took me a second fear me! attempt though before i got the orb.

so i ascended that orb and went back to get another orb. as i was approaching, i saw one of their minion master necromancer going for the orb, i thought my combustion shot would be able to interrupt the orb channeling but it seems like the flight time is too slow and the necro gotten the orb.

i tried to stop the necro by myself, using fear me!, pin down, savage leap, flurry etc but the necro kept on going. good sustain i say!

well, luckily for me, more of my blue team members showed up and we eventually beat down the necro, i think our ele got the orb again and ascended it. i guess our ele likes to ascend orbs too.

the rest of the match seems pretty uneventful, i just keep on ascending the orb until the match is over.

hmmm my first match lost in solo arena, my 8th solo arena game. need 3 more games!

teams feel pretty balanced to me, but it seems like the red team are better at beating us and holding points.

5 minutes into the game, points are red 191 – 140 blue
i was fighting around mid and home point mostly.

when scores were around red 400 – 330 blue i decided to sneak away and assault their gate and take a shot at their guild lord.

unfortunately scores were around 450 – 350 when i got inside and there is a ranger there defending, we lost all points at this moment.

perhaps i should have stayed a help to defend mid and home instead. >.<

their warrior uses banner, berserker stance.
their ranger is a spirit ranger.

hmmm i’m full cleric amulet + cleric jewel with my shouts build.
durr i’m a team support i should have stuck with my blue team members at mid or home.
