another matchmaking topic,other perspective
ok, so this has continued today as well. You cannot tell me there is nothing wrong here when majority of the games end up with one team is completely unable to even cap a point and the entire game is basically 3cap and kills. I am getting these winning and losing as well, and they are all terrible.
Its not “other perspective” though, its been posted numerous times already…month ago smarta###s here told us to wait a week or two and everything will settle up…guess what?
havent seen this bad though from others
Lots of threads were made on the subject, Anet pvp team, not Evan Lesh, said they gathered some data and will adjust a few setting for the upcoming season. So we should et a preview at the end of the season; also I don’t think they are going to patch/fix it prior the finals or the end of the season.
Anyone else experiencing the same?
80% sounds about right, this season is largely uncompetitive.

That’s kinda what happens when matchmaking is pooling players of similar MMR per team but, not matching teams by MMR, only Pip ranges. This leads to a high degree of variance in teams.
At the start of the season when I was getting through the lower divisions, I agree that almost all of the matches were total blowouts. None were even close. However, as I have now reached legendary I experience very few blowouts (Maybe 1 game out of 15 finishes as 500-less than 100). Of course it depends what score you would say a blowout is, but I don’t think there is a particular score that defines one. I would only consider a blowout to be a game where I never felt I could make a comeback meaning that scores like 500-150 would sometimes not be a blowout to me. Generally though, it gets a lot better as you get into the higher divisions, maybe because players there are more likely to try to make a comeback and not give up when 100 points down. Maybe not but that is the attitude I have seen much more in legendary.

This is happening because your MM rating is somewhat neutral. Most players have been locked in to min/max by now, so you’re fights are all going to be slaughters on one side or the other. This game would be fine if they took MMr out of the equation.

This ^^
I really hope Arenanet would change this immediately, in the middle of the season. Numerous players have reported utter blowout games becoming a norm and most competitive minded players do not enjoy that.
I hope they would bring back Season 1 match making. It was NOT perfect, but even that is better than what we have now. And they must have the source code for that, thus we wouldn’t need to wait until they develop a new algorithm + test the code.
Either way the combination of MMR vs pip range simply doesn’t work. We must either have pure MMR based match making (aiming for even 50/50 matches) or do a random match within a pip range regardless of MMR. Using only pip range for the matching you would eventually end up in a division and tier, which has about your skill level of players and everybody in the long run would get roughly equal amount of both good and bad team mates, unless very unlucky or lucky. The only problem which would remain that on certain divisions you cannot drop down, so if you are positioned higher than your skill level you would still end up being stomped in most games using the algorithm I suggest.
