backstab 1 hit 11k damage?
Going on the assumption you only have 21k health as a necromancer, I think the issue is more about you being a glass cannon, and complaining about being killed by another glass cannon.
Don’t get me wrong, thieves are incredibly stupid to fight right now… but you might want to look at alternative builds before complaining Necromancers aren’t viable in sPvP…
isn’t this too high damage by just one hit? if you say necromancer has low hp, shouldn’t necromancer have high hp and heavy armor?..
Necromancers have the highest base health of any profession besides warriors. You’re running with a near zero vitality build. You should have 25-30k health.
Yes, that’s a lot of damage, and I can’t tell you to learn to play since it is near instant and from stealth. Backstab has its own issues, but you shouldn’t say Necromancers are terrible.
Glass cannon or not, 11k in one hit is kind of absurd.
Ranger
While 21k hps is a decent amount of hps, Necros share the lowest base armor, so if you don’t get some toughness via your spec or amulet you are going to be in trouble.
I think it’s more of an issue with toughness. How much toughness do you have? I’m guessing somewhere in the 900-1,000 range?

Oh, I forgot about that. I know there’s that prec/condi/toughness amulet. He might be using that.
i have 26 HP and 1,700 toughness. i am not talking about my death at the moment. i am talking about thief skill’s damage.
Forced Crit + Bonus Damage + Bonus Crit Damage adds up to a lot when you glass cannon a thief.
Is it crazy damage? Yes. But a thief built for that melts like butter. It’s not too much so much as it’s a crapshot by the thief.
Thieves built like this are starting to get stomped hard in PvP. Occasionally, they catch you off guard, but beyond that they’re starting to hurt their team above more team-centric Thief Builds.
lol 11k, i got hit for 15900

they use stealth most of times. and run very fast. he runs away and come back to me and he uses skills again. stealth+high damage. isnt it cheat?
Yes, a Backstab focused build can hit that hard, but relies on a spec dedicated to just that one trick pony.
When going glass cannon vs. glass cannon, most classes are going to come up short vs. a Thief. Stealth simply gives them an upper hand that is hard to compensate in a 8 second fight.

necromancer has death shroud. i think necromancer highest health in glass cannon classes.
When a glass cannon goes against a glass cannon thief, the thief usually would come up on top; sure that’s understandable – except this guy is not glass cannon, he has amazing armor for a necro and nice HP as well.
Thieves just deal way too much damage with little effort, glass cannon or not.
Assassin’s Signet increases your next attack by 150%. That’s how backstab gets that high.
Add in some vulnerability stacks and it’s easily achievable.
Also do not play Necro. If you want to play a condition damage tank class, play Engineer. Unlike necro’s, they have access to tons of boons and use all 4 damaging conditions, instead of just bleed.

One should not believe everything they see on the internet. No way to know if the picture of his stats reflect the sigils and amulet he was wearing when he snapped the backstab crit damage pic.
As for “little effort”? Last time I checked, a warrior can do Bulls Rush>Quickness>HB…food for thought. Whoever that thief was…popped multiple cooldowns just to achieve that one hit and get a kill as well (not to mention that a mesmer teammate was already fighting his target). I can promise you that after that one hit, the thief was next to useless until his/her cooldowns returned.
People also need to remember that any thief running such a build is only good for that one trick…and it’s a trick he/she can’t do constantly. It takes positioning, it takes setup, and even if you’re good it can fail to work properly. If the player on the recieving end doesnt die, the thief is in trouble. Make a thief and go to sPvP where balance means nothing and you’ll see what I mean. Sure…you may get a few insta-kills here and there, but keep track of your attempts, your utility, and most importantly, your death toll. Then, feel free to come back here and QQ about all the other classes.
I am indeed very very very (VERY) sad at the necro’s current state. Playing for me isn’t about how awesome I can be or how many people I can own, but about how much I enjoy and have fun playing and how well I identify with how I wanna play – necro is the way for me, no way around it.
Not like the necro is completely useless and trash, I still manage to do amazing things with it – however, to be on equal with most other classes I have to dedicate myself so much and play so amazingly skilfully and time everything so perfectly to just achieve what so many other classes can do (and usually do better) by just pressing a couple buttons every now and then.

I am aware of that and gave that thought, however I’ve seen some other vids and pics of his and they all seem to be consistent enough, with 25-26k HP and similar skills, I can’t say if he changed for toughness but since his HP is the same I doubt he really changed that dramatically – I doubt he changed his gear completely for that pic since other pics his stat seem to be similar.
On another note, in no way do I mean every other class has it easy while the necro has it tough. What I do mean is that for necro’s to achieve what most other classes can achieve, we need to put in twice the effort and usually still under perform.

well if he got 0 toughness or armor and only focus on doing dmg he will also take more dmg it’s a dobble edge sword he’s playing with.
Yes if you have 1.7k toughness at the time of that BS, then and for sure an 11k crit is total BS and should be nerfed and will this is not the first time we have seen a class with crazy high easy to get out numbers i played one in BWE 1 (Evisc Warrior with Sigil of doom 30% on next hit and Int 100% crit chance next hit, i was critically eviscerating ellys for 14k every 8sec with 3 bars of adrenalin all why i was a tank spec. it got a stick so will this just wait it out .

/facepalm to much damage is too much damage. the damage will be nerfed and once its been balanced! Your analogy will look a lot smarter. =)
you mean 916 toughness. but what would hit harder a rogue getting hit by evisc at 916 toughness or a warrior getting hit with Backstab at 1800+ toughness (at the same power of 2k and 60ish crit damage. well the rogue does, about 2k more at that!!!
Nerfed soon? Well, I guess WoW’s MoP will take a huge junk out of GW2’s playerbase because getting 2-3 shotted can be gotten there as well (and no, I won’t play it). However, the game is more complex due to is age.
And that’s the problem: the obscene burst damage especially combined with stuff like quickness.
Geez…imagine Arena Net had to balance around gear as well.
The only advantage this game has is, it is free to play.
Damage seems out of whack to me honestly. I did some tests on my ranger, one setup had around 2100 armor and the other around 2900 or so. I had been feeling for a long time now that damage trumps mitigation and must out scale armor by a large margin.
Well what I found was that having 800ish more armor really did a lot of nothing against these heavy burst builds. The damage reduction from having so much armor was very slight and honestly not worth it at all since I had to sacrifice a lot of damage to achieve this.
I also wonder if there is more going on then raw stats. On my guardian I can roll glass cannon and have less armor and health then my ranger and still take a massive load of damage and keep going. Sure a part of this is due to built in defenses and heals….but again things seem very off to me. Even factoring those conditions into it….having 1k more armor and 3k more health on the ranger should count for something but I have found it does not.
Fact is you can go glass cannon or tanky on many professions and it means very little when a Thief is running a heavy burst build, you will still be bursted down very very hard. Tougness / Armor / Mitigation needs to scale better against massive burst damage if burst is going to be allowed in the game. To counter huge defenses you run conditions.
yeah that’s great but with a coordinated team (voip) you’ll say oh that thief blew his load on me and your teammate will say k rezzing popping stability, k ressed continue. meanwhile that thief still has 15 seconds ish before he can do anything remotely useful besides die really, really fast.
Did the thief have stacks of might? Did you have a lot of vulnerability Stacks? There are so many variables missing To even begin a proper discussion here.
Well right off the bat here we see that his Mesmer buddy uses Mirror blade on you giving you stacks of vulnerability and granting might to the thief. We don’t know what buffs the thief had he could of had a lot of might or used assassins signet or buffs from steal using Thrill of crime trait or he had Executioner trait and you were at or below 50% HP giving him 20% boost to you. This thread is pure garbage.
What I get from most posts in this subject is that thieves deal stupid dmg atm and should be looked into by Anet…which sadly wont happen for months to come =/ so have some fun on a easy mode class its vanilla (insert game of horror’s name) all over again…I know game developers have actually played other mmos and do testing prior to release…dunno how some balance issues dont get addressed a lot sooner

What if I showed you an Eviscerate on a golem for 15k+? Would you be able to show me a Backstab for over 25k? Because that’s pretty much what you’re claiming here.

This.
The burst damage on Thieves is just to insane at the moment, especially combined with quickness. If you’re even a split second to late with reacting you’ve pretty much lost the fight already and considering Thieves can get that split second so easily thanks to stealth it’s just silly.
Earlier today I got hit for 8k by Steal. I mean wtf?! Isn’t that supposed to be a gap closer with a trait that allows it to do SOME damage?
Edit: Oh and taking one person down in 2-3 seconds is an absolutely crappy ability! There’s absolutely no use for that in teamfights, there’s no point downing someone and stealth stomping him 5 seconds after a fight starts. I mean, no fight is ever won by killing the enemy at the node you’re trying to cap right?

Go necro Well build. God, I do tons of dps with those.
Yeah this is pretty normal.
When I play Engineer in sPvP, I build around toughness and HP. Unfortunately it makes no difference. Countless times a theif will down 3 of us guarding a point by doing nothing but attacking out of stealth and then restealthing before the game even recognizes that the they’re no longer invisible. There’s pretty much only 1 way to avoid getting stomped by theives and that’s to roll a Mesmer, which I did. Kind of sad that I have to change classes to even have a chance of having my attacks hit the opponent.
I gave up sPvP all together and went back to League of Legends until they do something about the Thief/Guardian/Mesmer issue. Just not worth playing anything other profession until they do. Reading this makes me sigh and wonder if Kha’Zix is worth the 6300…

Sounds like you’re just bad engineer. I’ve no issue with theives. stuns, daze, blind, cripple, knockbacks.. kitten even you have a 1 second stealth.

I hate to sound “elitist” here, but this is an l2p issue. 3 of you? Really? That’s either a bold faced lie or you shouldnt be blaming anyone else but yourself and the other 2 guys there.
You can’t kill something you can’t target.
You can kill something you can’t target. You can still burn stealth targets, even you can’t see the numbers.
Yes that’s too high, no matter your spec. That’s roughly 40-50% of your health from one button press…. There’s too much “burst” in pvp ATM and theives are the easiest to achieve the burst damage ATM.
Rest assured this will be fixed, just be patient while they work on it.
