bonus pips: encourage stomps
Well it does seem reasonable at first glance. But maybe they should add up instead like 3 flawless victories for the extra pips. I’m not against the concept however. Good players should be rewarded quickly.

aye, thanks for the feedback, but if you mean we only get one extra pip for every 3 flawless victories, i think that extra one pip would be, very, very rare.
changed topic name into
“bonus pips: encourage stomps”
in hopes of getting more feedback.
well basically, in
season 1, we can get pips from -3 to +3 , well, at most we get -2 or +2 sometimes very unlucky people get -3 and those -2 and -3 are really driving people mad.
season 2, we get extra pip once we get on a winning streak, lucky people are able to ride streaks due to having higher MMR, rolling through the lower MMR teams. unlucky people seems to be get caught in MMR hell and not able to progress.
season 3, seems like a combination of both season 1 and season 2, however, the chance to gain extra pips seems very hard as the system is designed to make the MMR of both teams as closely as possible.
tl; dr
we need more ways to gain bonus pips.
encouraging teams to fight more brutal, showing no mercy to the other seems like a good motivation.
Most team already show no mercy in diamond right now and even ruby when I was climbing. Nobody gonna go ez on you =P
One of the added benefit of such a system would be to force the losing team to give everything it has to win. So far, I only had a few games that were absolutely hopeless: most games I lost were because my team and I committed one or more crucial mistakes, but were perfectly winnable. In the few cases were my opponents were much better, I would have been glad to let them have two-three pips and get them away from my pip search range.

eeek, you mean they even let players get zero personal score? (zero means no reward track progression, no 15 silvers for losing the match etc)
well, in one of the games where my team was stomped good, one of the mesmers was kind enough to let me decap for some personal points. kinda fellow, i appreciate that.
we got 500 – 0 ed.
anyway, what do you think about bonus pips for large score differences ?

hmmm what do you mean?

ah, those be close games, nice if we won, but i hate it really when we lost, especially 500 – 499. that happened once to our 5 man team, the winning team was a 5 man full solo q team of various colors, white diamond, yellow amber, green emerald, red ruby, etc. like a rainbow. they got 3 pips for that win, we got -1 pip.
In the few cases were my opponents were much better, I would have been glad to let them have two-three pips and get them away from my pip search range.
hmm yeah in those case, i would just be happy to get non zero personal score so at least that 15 silvers is a nice consolation.
Yeah some people don’t let you get anything, others do. Depends.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to encourage massive score diff because most of the time score diff just means that one side is heavily favored to win over the other. If the teams were of similar skill they already try their best to win as much as possible and this won’t do anything to motivate them.
I think that if anything, pips should be added if a team does reasonably well even if they lose to a higher MMR team. For example if my team scores ~350 against ESL team XYZ then I might get 1 pip instead of -1, kinda like S1.

hmmm true, but, season 1 match prediction also have the problem of awarding -2 and -3 pips because the stupid match prediction expects your team to steam roll the other team, but your team got steam rolled instead!
i always hated that part about season 1 !!! XD

That’s the whole point. If the skill gap between the two teams is too wide, they need to be separated on the ladder as quickly as possible.
I also don’t agree that it wouldn’t motivate teams of equal skill. I can’t count the times when someone in my team threatened to afk after the first team fight because of his/her “scrub team”, but when we finally won by a large margin.
I think this sounds pretty fair, it’ll port the skilled players away from the lesser skilled ones more quickly which only promotes a more positive PvP experience all around.
No it won’t. S2 proved that. The “good” players simply make f2p alt accounts and farm the lower divisions rather than play at a competitive level.
S2 never levelled out. It’s time for anet to admit that favoring winners and disfavoring losers is logically flawed and NEVER going to work.
In Chess, one of the most competitive games you’ll find anywhere at the elite levels, you get bonus rating points if you’re matched against a stronger rated player. You are rewarded for playing against a stronger opponent, win or lose.
International Chess uses a rating system similar to ANET’s but with exactly the opposite reasoning for rating points.
The whole world has stood still to watch Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky play. ANET thinks 2500 viewers is a strong showing.
Competition needs a level playing field or it’s not competition, it’s favoritism.
Crazy conspiracy theories sigh… Level playing field??
A) What are you smoking?
B) Can I have some?
In this game EVERYONE has the same gear on conquest pvp, EVERYONE has the same traits, classes, everyone has the same EVERYTHING.
What in God’s name are you talking about? You don’t have to grind gear, you don’t even have to level your char and you talk about level playing field? Are you high? Or have you simply never played any other game before, ever?
Edit: I have seen some seriously stupid arguements and reasoning in my 15 years of playing MMOs but “level playing field” in GW2 takes the freaking cake. Bravo sir, I dared to think this level of stupid was no longer present in MMOs but you have proved me wrong. I tip my hat to you.

There is a flaw with your suggestion. Sometimes pretty bad players get carried by really good group. There is druid on EU that is outright terrible, most of the time all he does is spamming AA, doesn’t help teammates etc. He is legend now. I saw him getting carried by good teammates he keeps getting because apparently MM decided so.
Long story short, your suggestion doesn’t prevent “less” skilled players from landing in higher divisions and being a dead weight there nor getting farmed at some point.

With more play though they should sink. The game needs to simulate LoL matchmaking complete with division loss since it seems to work.

well, Agemnon,
division loss could work,
provided it,
division crossing achievement is removed
or
division crossing achievement can be farmed, if you dropped a division, and then climb back up that division.
for example,
graduate amber > emerald, one crossing achievement
dropped back into emerald, no change
graduate amber > emerald again, another one crossing achievement
if this is the case, then division dropping would be okay.
but this is a whole new topic though.
maybe i should start one.
Sooo basically… The high MMR premade teams running against low MMR solo queues will get to Legendary quicker. Sure why not.
How about we fix the MMR system before we award more pips to people already being fed pips.
the problem with this idea is that it’s only a viable thing for as long as the people better than you are actually leaving your pool of potential opponents, but legendary division doesn’t work that way. towards the end of the season, the pros will just farm the grinders/decents for tons of easy prestige divisions. the season 2 leaderboards had someone at 30 prestige. this would prolly allow him or people like him to reach like 300 prestige basically for free.
