Vials Maize Balm Exploit(Halloween) 2014
Locked out of JP (Wintersday) 2015
Meaning regardless of whether you like it or not, can we agree it has decimated the pvp population?.
Are you sure it’s not how long it takes them to fix bugs, adjust the needed and how little happens when it actually happens?

If and when that happens we can always reevaluate, CURRENT means CURRENT.

The PvP population was decimated over 2 years ago.
What is the PvP population? What was it 2 months ago? 6? 2 years ago?
This has already been confirmed in a few other threads. After the 6/23/2015 patch there were many players that simply left Guild Wars 2. Some dropping notes to their guild leaders saying “I’ll check back at some point to see if any of this is fixed”, some posting their last comments in this forum and many just leaving without saying anything at all.
As a guild leader I can tell you that I’ve not seen a leave the game migration as big as the one that happened during the first two weeks of the 6/23/2015 patch and we’ve been an active guild since day 1 release. Even now after 7/28/2015, I am still seeing players leave the game as they are disappointed that Mesmers are still outrageous and that the grossly over-powered D/D Cele Ele was ignored entirely. Also, some complaining specifically about burning breaking the game.
~ Hey this isn’t coming from me, these are simply the top 3 things that I hear from other players right before they log off and are never seen again.
i cant say since i have no way to estimate pvp population, i only get in a 5v5 arena XD
But i cant tell you that since the condition patch hit, wvw population has really sink. I dont know why people stopped to play, but regarding me, roaming and duelling people in wvw is not fun anymore since condition got the damage burst.
Talking about pvp, i have to say that conditions were already heavy in pvp before the patch, now is even more sheetload of them yea, but they were already heavy on the pvp mechanic and meta with celestial stuff. So if people really like to play condition dealing damage for them during time after one single hit, this game should appear perfect for them. I can only say have fun with your condi fest game.
Well the expansion will likely draw people back since there will be new stuff to play with.
If anything the trait revamp has had more players in PvP than it has had since launch imo.
Skill-less insta-death killed PvP? Inconceivable!
There isn’t anything wrong with the idea of a burst-heavy meta. The problem with this one is that it was heavy reward for little risk. Mesmer screws up burst? It’s okay, spam again! Still failed? Go invis and try again in a few seconds! Run into a group and win with a zerker amulet? Sure!
If you want to see proper burst, look at s/f fresh air ele pre-patch. It could put out a lot of burst damage, but lacked sustain. You also had to set up your burst or didn’t work out well. Defenses were there, but had to be used properly including how aggressive you were and your positioning.
Who cares? Im sorry this is the best meta for PvP. Bunkers are bunkers, cele can do everything and burst players and it works for all classes.
Im sorry that alot of people who were garbage at PvP cant go to meta battle and grab a meta build and dominate anymore. Seriously the last meta was celestial everything and most teams were 2 eles- 1 engy-1 thief and 1 random. That was every single team.
Now if were talking solo que and you and your friends like running burst builds with no condi cleanse or cant realize when they should or shouldnt jump into fights. I say good bye because this community doesnt need the toxic cryers with afk babies.
I saw someone say i quit when 2 people cap home, there not gonna stay there forever. Keep playing but no. I have not seen people cry so much as in this game. Before this patch people were crying cele is bad for the game and it was and to me thats when the majority of people were leaving. Alot of the better players including OE left the game in this stretch. This new PvP allows for teams to run different ideas since the classes are unique with there different skills.
So my answer is NO
I think pvp population increased, not by a huge tremendous amount, but I do have the idea more people are on
Not to mention that the percentage of GW2 players that frequent the forums is probably ridiculously small and judging how the game is doing just by how vocal some drama queens are being is probably not gonna produce any meaningful results. For every player that makes a “Goodbye forever” post, 10 more new players probably sign up and play the game without even realizing that “Armageddon” is happening right under their noses on the forums.
We create the meta… Also imo current state of PvP builds are amazing. The game is very close to complete balance. Except for PvE. Those players are really the only ones who have a right to be angry because not every build is viable in PvE its all about that burst that burst no treble.
Ever since “cele meta” viable builds have been increasing. I liked cele meta cuz it was an improvement from the pure burst meta and now this one is opening up even more possible builds.
Well I mean everyone has a right to be angry lol just saying probably PvE players have the most valid reason :P

I think the PvP population increased. I don’t understand where you get the impression that the population decreased?
In any case, ANet is the one with the real number. How about asking them instead of wondering ourselves?
This has already been confirmed in a few other threa….

There is no possible way you can confirm PvP’s Population Hit nor the title of this thread. ArenaNet are the only ones who can see exactly how many players left, currently playing, or bought the game and are new.
I could easily make a statement about there are 10x more PvP and PvE players since the HoT and Free Base Game announcement – count how many people bought the game on Reddit – or visually witnessing the surge of PvE and PvP newbie players.
My statement would still be as invalid as yours because I have absolutely no idea where the state of this game is.
Assumptions are not facts.

Current meta? What has changed to make sPvP not suck for anything but random romps when bored with something else?
sPvP has two main problems – the gameplay mode locking people down and the fact they can never balance it due to way GW2 combat mechanics works using power and condi. It cant do anything but fail. The rewards was needed but it didnt change anything.
I think it depends on the player. Those players who main character’s profession got massive buffs in recent Jun 23 are probably very happy, while some others, e.g. engineers, are probably grumpy as the patch deleted so many trait options and builds completely. Those warriors, who don’t use greatsword nor rampage, probably feel a bit kitten as well, even though warrior nerfs were small. It is just that everything else got buffed so much.
Now the meta certainly is different and there can be bursts which shot characters down as fast as CounterStrike. And you can repeat the burst soon again if you fail. Several mesmer builds (mantra shatter and PU) and D/D elementalist are the main offenders and don’t have enough counter-play.
On the positive side: thieves no longer hard counter mesmers. Necromancer, which used to be the underdog, now has several viable builds. Ranger hasn’t yet found itself in meta, but I feel it has very strong 1 vs 1 builds and can have lots of sustain to hold points.
Those who don’t enjoy the relatively huge imbalance between professions and burst + bunker meta, probably left the game and will be checking back again in Autumn 2015 (when possible HoT comes out?). But it is not all about the meta. I simply fail to understand why the leaderboards have been frozen for months (what is the advantage of this?!?). Pvp needs better match up making, solo queue back and working leaderboards.
I think the developers should now be releasing more frequent balance updates (once per week) to adjust the most overpowered traits, sigils, runes etc and buff some underused ones. Mesmer’s ability to stun frequently (confounding suggestions) and disengage (stealth + teleports) and set up massive burst from stealth needs to be toned down. D/D ele’s ability to stack might and burn and spam blind needs to be toned down.
Thank you!
Mesmer’s ability to stun frequently (confounding suggestions) and disengage (stealth + teleports) and set up massive burst from stealth needs to be toned down.
That’s a description of a Thief… not a Mesmer.
Issue with Mesmers is that there’s little room to counter play (outplaying) him. Power builds who can kill Clones with a single AoE burst do bests but most power builds in this game have no where near the sustains/survivability of Mesmers… the Meta discourages most power builds in TPvP. Mesmers can get away with Zerkers… no one else other than, maybe Thieves, can do the same.
D/D ele’s ability to stack might and burn and spam blind needs to be toned down.
Absolutely not.
D/D Cele or Marauder Ele have the ability to be extremely resilient (it’s why Abjured runs 2 instead of having a tank) while offering exceptional AoE damages.
They have every tool in the shed to negate certain cc effects, counter conditions, peel away during bursty 1v2 situations as well as offer supportive abilities.
They can cast a potentially devistating Fire Field from Ring of Fire every 10s… if they cast it on you (which always happens) that’s an instant 3s burns which isn’t OP in the slightest considering you can condi cleanse and/or dodge roll out.
But in another 10s will you have a dodge, and another condi cleanse? Did you eat his Drake’s Breath? What about 10s after that?
The Ele will definitely out sustain and outplay Power Guard or Guards in general because of the above reasons.

guardians are bottomtier, way way weaker then necros are….guardian powerbuild are dead, medi guard is a joke a bad 1

That doesn’t make everything I just said about the Ele not true.

It’s not an assumption at all, it is a fact. I have hundreds of players from the pvp community in my contacts list. I have hundreds of players in guild screens in pvp specific guilds. After 6/23/2015 “specifically on that date”, numbers began to dwindle. As of today there are roughly a little less than 1/4th of the usual players signing in to the hearts of the mists. Just as arena-net can see log ins so can I.
You should give me more credit Falselights. You know I have been a community organizer guild to guild for quite some time now.
