downed state!
It is kinda annoying but also thats the point of it. So planning a strategy with teamates able to aid you and/or rally so you could continue killing. After all, when you ’’down’’ someone the kill counts for you whether he respawns or not.
Thus if the kills where so instant there would be numerous and foggy deaths everywhere with loads of respawns. That would be bit too much for lets say 5-6 men teams
I think we should start an open debate around the downed state in sPvP. Because at this point they’re not completely right yet.
I can see what Anet tried to do, adding a new layer of strategy. But while this works in a fight with multiple people on either side, it becomes a complete buzzkill when you’re in 1v1 and both get downed. That’s what I’m a bit missing at the moment in an otherwise very solid PvP. That “I GOT YOU MFER” moment. It’s there sometimes, but the downed state hinders it a bit at the moment.
Maybe an adjustment of the downed state skills or a shortening of the “FINISH” move is required?
Let’s try to start a debate about this without just shouting “it has to go” or “it’s perfect”. The downed state in PvP is at this point something with much potential but unrefined, just like very much in the game.
I think shortening the finish move would be great so only people ¨fast¨ enough can avoid the killing blow.
What actually bothers me is when u fight 1vs2 and u beat one but since the finish cast is too long u cant take all that time to kill the one down while u r fighting the other and even worse between the two of them can kill u and it was for nothing that u almost killed the one in the downed state , so shortening the finish cast could be better in that case so you can finish one downed guy and continue with ur fight.
I hope they change the duration of the finish cast so the downed one can still escape but also fast enough to finish him off while in the middle of a fight.

In games without downed state I’ve been able to take on as many as 1v5 and win. In GW2 1v2 alone is highly improbable.
I don’t see a problem with how it is currently. In a decisive battle you’re going to get them down. I suggest discussing with your group how to easily get stomps off rather than immediately calling it OP. Nothing is balanced around hot join by the way. Experience there does not translate to experience in tournaments.

^ This, When someone dies in PvP THEY SHOULD DIE. Simple as that, None of this downed state bs.
Only way to make it actually work is if they can’t attack only heal.

It is an interesting and fun dynamic. You can make a great support build that focuses on reviving allies and turning the tide of battle. My only suggestion would be to get the Thief and Mesmer downed abilities under control. They are completely unreasonable right now.
if you dont have downed state there is nothing to prevent silliness like 5 mesmer duelist/beserker spike team from destroying every other comp with ease. 321 spike comps are one thing they correctly didn’t bring over from gw1.
you guys are theorycrafting without realizing the consequences of what you ask for. whatever annoyance with downed state you feel, you’d feel 10x as much if you were playing against rit spike or some other cheesy GW1 comp

I think in sPvP you should just die. Why? Because as others have pointed out after winning a particularly challenging fight it degrades to two guys flinging rocks at each other, which in my opinion, is ridiculous.
However WvWvW focuses much more on large scale conflicts rather than 1v1 and the downed state is just fine as it is.
You guys are just stuck thinking about it wrong. Statements like “When someone dies in PvP THEY SHOULD DIE” are silly. They do die when they die! Death is after stomp, not after first HP bar hits 0.
Also, it by no means makes 1v2 impossible, or degrades 1v1s to throwing rocks at eachother. If you are 1v1 and down the other guy but really low on hp yourself, just leave and wait for your heal and then finish them, that simple. 1v2, 1vX etc you just need to CC the other guy while you do the stomp.
IMO it adds a great layer to gameplay and EVERY group fight has potential for great turn around with clutch rezzes or interrupts etc.
