I am going to compete in a 1v1 tourney with some friends. The field is heavy with guardians and necros. There are a few warriors and engine’s and a mix of others.

I am fairly new to gw2. I have an engineer, ranger, necros, and guardian. I would consider starting a mesmerized. Is one of these classes going to have an advantage in this environment?

While the best 1v1 class is of course arguable a lot of people would agree that a well played mesmer is amazingly strong in 1v1.

Spirit Ranger, minion necro, condi engi, burst guardian, phantasm mesmer. All decent at 1v1ing

While mesmer is probably the potentially strongest 1v1 class, that requires a massive amount of skill. If the 1v1 tourney is really soon, I wouldn’t recommend trying to run mesmer, but if you have some more time, go for it.

The easiest build for you to just pick up and play competitively is going to be a spirit ranger, most likely.

I’d go for Condi Engi.. since you already have one, given time to practice I’d suggest a PU or Phantasm Mesmer.

Prismatic Mesmers are both easy to play and incredibly strong, hopefully your 1v1 tourny will have them banned.

Now lets be fair you could argue any build is easy such as condie engi very strong but mostly grenade spam. I dont have anything against condie engi just for example but even with the good 1v1 build you’ll still notice a major difference between someone who has truly mastered the class/build or someone whose just picked it up.

I wouldn’t say condi engi would be best – maybe a variant of chaith’s power/control engi would work better vs. primarily necros and guardians?

I reckon if you’re new a minion master necro, with minions take condis from you, would be easiest to win with. Spirit ranger would be a good call too, but I do reckon its skill cap (using evades correctly, timing spirit use, pet abilities) is a little higher than mm (which basically requires button spam). Don’t get me wrong, both could be played by a four year old, but I think mm necro gives you a better chance.
