CC, condi spam and a billion passives…

Anet buffs ranger shouts but we cant use them or they get corrupted into poison and cripple… Just sick of patch after patch after patch of crap that just makes pvp more cancer than it was before.

If you think GW2 needs to continue down this condi, cc, and passive spam road good for you. I for one am done till this crap is fixed… Back to EVE Online I go…

Lots of Guild Wars 2 mechanics are still rooted in very old turnbased tabletop games, including status effects. Those mechanics may work in a turn based environment with stat management but in an actiony game it doesn’t work nearly as well.

The problem with passives is they require no input from the player to activate and could even hold up a shield for 5 seconds instead of pressing a button consuming a resource or reacting to a strike like Dark Souls (which still has some the the problematic mechanics carried over from the old tabletop games but not as bad as MMOs), the one button press did it for you within a wide timeframe. In PvP I played ranger today and didn’t really feel like my won duels were truly won since my pets did a lot of the damage and even CC (smokeskelk has a knockdown)

You also have teamspeak teams vs. pugs so some sides have an inherent advantage due to that but SoloQ and TeamQ solved that problem.

There is nothing wrong with the “rpg” systems.

The issue people have with them is that people are buying into this relatively new idea that skill = APM, and that gaming should be only ever be about reflexes.

No need to insult yourself. Just reread the OP message. What you say is true about condi (from what we’ve seen so far). CC and passives are a big problem though.

The games in a much healthier state then what it was pre HoT, so I don’t think there’s a problem with condi at all.

the only class that can corrupt as many boons as a necro is a necro, they’re being redefined into a role which is a good thing. Anet should continue on their path of redefining class roles.

In time the game will grow to be better and bettter, my only problem with it now is that Conquest is the only pvp mode we’ll see for probably another 2 years.

Arenas (2v2, 3v3’s) need to be a thing, and they need to be pumped out sooner because if you don’t do it soon, we wont see them in competitive play for a long time.

I think rpg games are becoming more and more evolved, with the end factor imo being a blend of fps and rpg. Theres no doubt that this game and many others of its age are far more action packed then its predecessors, and this fact I think has drawn the attention of the fps community. Thats where this “new concept” is coming from imo, although ofc its all just speculation.

Team Deathmatch for PvP – Raise the AoE cap for WvW – More unique events for PvE

I don’t think this is a FPS specific thing.

Gaming in general evolved from two different roots. One side of gaming evolved from the old arcade gaming, these games focus mainly on reflex, timing, and speed. The other side of gaming evolved from the old tabletop games mainly Dungeons and Dragons, these games focus more on strategy, understanding of complex mechanics, and fore planning.
MMORPGs evolved from D&D roots, whereas most triple A console games evolved from arcade roots.

Guild Wars 2 however is in a awkward spot where it’s inheriting mainly from rpg roots, but it brings in some reflex/speed mechanics, this in turn means it’s brought in some of the “arcade” style thinking which is likely the root of the “omg traits are bad.”
