how does new Ping option work?
Your experiencing packet loss, your ping could stay decent but you would still have little lag spikes.

Ping is supposed to be the latency in between you sending commands from your client to ANet’s servers.
They’ve added what appears to be the current ping and an average ping, though I have no context as to what average means.
Try comparing the ping ANet shows to a site like pingtest.net
I believe their EU servers are somewhere in Germany so pick a server there to test against.
You’ll also get info on your jitter which could be impacting your delay.
You might also want to try a trace route to an ANet IP, the windows command is “tracert” to get more info to figure out where along the line the connection could be delayed

You can also use windows performance monitor and check under network ,tcp connections..gw2.exe to see the actual latency + any eventual packet losses.
You can get the IP of the server you’re connected to with the /ip command as well. When you check your latency as Caedmon suggests, make sure you’re looking at the server IP you got using the /ip command.
GW2.exe also keeps connections open to the gem store and those typically have much higher latencies, so don’t freak out.

Yes there’s one connection usually around 209 latency, and its not moving at all..I think thats the gemstore connection you meant.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the latency indicator is on a delay from the past 5 minutes. Out of curiosity, where is this option in the UI?
I don’t think it’s an option, it’s just displayed at the bottom of the Options screen along with framerate.
