I’m lvl 70 atm and I joined unranked arenas to tryout some pvp.

I found myself fighting besides lv 20, lv3, lv80 while other team was full 80.
I couldn’t use any of my utility skills that I use in leveling.

We ofc were eaten alive, I was getting 3-4 shotted.
Where is the sense there?
Can someone explain how this stuff works? I was reading that “everyone is equal” in pvp here and this system is actually good.
It’s not what I got as my first impression.

Yes, I’m aware that you get scaled up to 80. But what’s the point if you still wear crap weapons and deal lot less dmg than some 80.

Once you join pvp you will gain all of your utilities and skills as if you were level 80. That includes Amulets and Sigils, with the exception of certain PVE exclusive ones. You have to buy your Grand Master traits at the class trainer, make sure it’s PvP and not PvE… I think they’re separated but I haven’t checked in awhile…

“Rank” just shows time played, it isn’t a measurement of skill per say.

A lot of factors is taken into matchmaking… in is simplistic form… bad matchmaking is bad matchmaking. You either:

1. Got faced against a higher skill team. These teams are usually premades or they’re all veteran players, playing on Meta builds
2. Your team is far from being veterans and you were all using off meta builds.
3. There was a huge rotation issue from start to finish. That mean you were all going in one at a time and dying without offering support and not supplementing each other in any way.
4. There was a class stacking issue, Example: 2 Thieves is not as wanting as 2 Eles, etc.

There are many other factors but these are the most common ones. I’m sorry you had a bad PvP experience but I HIGHLY recommend you playing Hotjoins then Unranked in that order.

Currently there’s no restrictions to Ranked pvp but hopefully the Devs will learn that little feature, even if it’s a minor one, needs implementing.

What level are you talking about? You mean PvE level(the number you see in party UI)?
Because PvE level doesn’t matter at all.

You can access ALL utility skills while in the Heart of the Mists. Just click the arrow up in the utility slot and replace it with whatever you like.

You can PvP NAKED (Just make sure you equip weapons). All your PvE armor and weapons don’t matter at all. Click the “PvP Build” icon in the upper center of the screen while in the Heart of the Mists, and build your toon however you like.

Yes, I’m aware that you get scaled up to 80. But what’s the point if you still wear crap weapons and deal lot less dmg than some 80.

All weapons and armor are equalized in spvp. That means a greatsword, for example, will do the same amount of damage whether it is a legendary, ascended, level 1, or whatever. All the jewels, runes etc are also equalized.

In other words whether you are level 2 or level 80 or anything in between your character will not be more or less powerful in terms of class abilities or gear. Everyone does exactly the same amount of damage, everyone has exactly the same health/armor/etc (based on what traits you take and what jewellery etc you choose).

You also have access to all skills and traits, except for a few GM traits which you have to buy, but those are not game changing whatsoever- I don’t use them in most of the builds I play.

What is so amazing about GW2 spvp is that “its all skill and a little luck” (is that my guard that says that?). I am pretty sure that every other mmo pvp except GW1 has gear/level based pvp, basically people with the best gear win in those games. In GW2 you literally just have to L2P to win, its awesome.

Now in order to L2P, I strongly suggest you DO NOT play hotjoin- which is now called “practice”. Just read a little bit about the objectives in the pvp maps, maybe watch the vid linked above, get a decent build for spvp from GW2 metabuilds, the go and play lots of “Unranked” spvp.

The main thing to remember is that on all the maps except courtyard the main objective is to get points through controlling nodes, and that fighting away from nodes is generally bad. Also, always try to fight against an even number of enemies or with the numbers in your favour, and don’t just run mindlessly to your death alone when you respawn- go and get an empty node or something.

There is a huge amount to learn, but if you nail the basics and practise, maybe try out a few different classes in spvp (you can join spvp at any level, just make a new toon and hop right in), you will soon be a pro and not get 3-4 shotted so much.

Wow. I never knew. Thought all stats were put into amulets hence there is no need to actually wear any armor. Not that I pvp naked though. But I always thought it wouldnt matter.

Yep. I think they did that to discourage people to pvp naked, which would look a bit silly to be honest.

huge amounts of human females in underwear does not make the game look good to an outside audience. no company want’s their tournaments looking like that.
