how to monetize sPvP effieciently?
It’s going to be really hard to. Since PvP is all about skill over gear, ANet can’t sell anything on the gem store that improves performance. (Nor can they sell ranks, since that would open up the p2win can of worms.) All they can sell is cosmetics, which are armor/weapon skins and finishers, and that’s already covered via the gem store and the TP (and indirectly, the gem-gold conversion).
Zaxares,
thanks for the feedback!
yeah, regarding that, its kinda true, can only sell skins.
but then again, why skins in dota 2 is making such huge profits? O_O
is it mainly due to the profits from the annual international?
this year’s international prize pool is about 11 mil so they probably made 30 mil gross profit off that alone.
i think they wanted to monetize tournaments during launch, via tournaments:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tournament_Ticket
“This item can be used to enter certain PvP tournaments which require an entry fee.”
but i think no one bothered to buy them, it costs
75 Gems for 5?
360 Gems for 30?
as for boosters, they removed glory boosters too.
hmmm what about permanent upgrades?
people seems to like permanent items, not temporary, or RNG.
well, finishers are permanent, but how many people actually convert real dollars into gems to buy them? i think many people just convert gems using in game gold.
what do you think about the gem store selling pvp reward tracks progress upgrades?
for example, each level of “PvP Reward Tracks Upgrade” will increase the pvp rewards tracks by a certain percentage, for example,
say, 100 gems to buy a “PvP Reward Tracks Upgrade” that gives a 10% increase per level per “PvP Rewards Track Upgrade”
but would it cause problems later on?
if someone who spent 10,000 gems would have a 1000% increase, they can simply get some points and afk for the rest of the game for their rewards.
i guess this can’t work out well eh.
No. That’s why I said “it’s hard”. Even that Reward Tracks Upgrade idea is fraught with peril; it smacks too much of p2w. It’d be like ANet saying, “Hey guys! If you buy 1000 gems, we’ll permanently increase your profits from the TP by 10%!”
Just keep producing armors and weapons that PvPers want.
But new skins are wanted by BOTH PvE’rs and PvP’rs. If new skins are only acquired by participating in PvP, how exactly is ANet going to monetize that? “You can only earn the Glorious PvP armor by participating in paid tournaments”? I have a feeling that won’t go down well…
yeah, but straight pvpers usually lack the money to exchange into gems, so they have to spend real money on it
ele @ Gf Left Me Coz Of Ladderboard [vain] (EU) / Salty Strategy [PAIN]
well the correct order is
first features and stuff and then comes the money
not the other way around
why should i spend money when they didn’t do anything at all for it in the last 2 years
just accept it this game isn’t going anywhere in pvp
play it as long you’re still having fun playing it and then move on
well its not a pvp centric change, but they should stop making outfits as “all or nothing” sets, if they let us buy the outfit and use separate parts then they would make a lot of money, both on all of the outfits that we’d all undoubtedly buy,
and also on transmutation crystals.
i can’t think of a single outfit that doesn’t have atleast one part that i’d buy it for,
but on the flip side there is’nt a whole outfit i’ll spend my money on.
almost all gem armor design look so funny even not compare to other game.
New reward tracks with epic lootz you have to open with gems plz.
1k good stuff
5k great stuff
25k god daaayuuum
100k HOLY SHEEET!
I believe they just need to bring way more players into PvP. How? Either with skins/titles (current path) or just provide a lot more PvP content and variety.
It’s hard to make a real pvp community just by increasing the rewards. If simply farming/playing hotjoins becomes too efficient, people who aren’t and won’t be PvPers will just farm PvP because it gives gold and gold is a Holy Grail of GW2.
Adding new maps, gamemodes, working rating system – these are the things that would grab attention.

A simple and easy way to monetize it is to offer single elimination tournaments as I suggested here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/King-of-the-Hill-1/first#post4348001
charge 25 gems to enter, and the winner receives 150
any variation on this simple theme is completely doable and prices and prizes can be adjusted as needed.

Include Black Lion Weapon Tickets in a PvP related reward.
Dingo King-Hound King-Coyoti King-Thylacine King-Hyena King

we alrdy had tournaments which u had to pay for to enter etc. this was the very first system and it was kitten and removed for a reason
and i rly dont get why u want moar options for anet to squeeze money off u while they never do/did/ will do anything for it ;D
New game modes pls.
I prefer 15 v 15 v 15 king of the hill annihilation, with new teams entering the match when old teams are defeated.

Yeah, well, that is because they focused on team only. This would be short, solo events requiring no team and having a clear winner. Events like this are easily scalable as long as the players are in multiples of 8. I have run over a thousand tournaments for various games and it is very simple. Because you do not rely on other players you avoid the issue of 4 vs 5 and everything that goes with that. A player doesn’t show up, or is afk …he loses. and that makes all the other players all the more happy.
ArenaNet did some selling to PvP section in the past, but my guess is that after September 2014 patch those sells will drop a lot for the following reasons:
1. Skins – why buy skins when there is “standard models” so you can only show to 50% of players (your team)?!
2. Finishers – why buy finishers when the rank 70 and 80 finishers are the most wanted?
3. Boosts – why buy boosts when you can not even use them in PvP?
4. Crafting – there is no crafting required in PvP.
5. Minis – Miniatures can not be used in PvP, nor will they fight by your side.
6. Entertainments – Box of Fun and Boblehead Lab can not be used in PvP.
These reasons are the exact point to why they do not care much about PvP – it does not sell as PvE does.
The above statements are my personal opinion. I may be wrong, but only time tells.

Sorry to correct you, but:
1.) standard models is only in team arenas and I think you make your character look like cool for yourself, this small change will not affect the normal process of players
wanting to dress their characters.
2.) I don’t know where you have your source on that, but I would say that most people have other favorites than those two.
3.) legit
4.) Some skins can only be crafted (ascended stuff like light of dwayna backpiece), but yeah its not required, only optional for a small amount of skins.
5.) They can be shown in HoTM, and with next feature patch they get easier to use, so maybe we will see in future some changes here.
6.) Bobblehead CAN be used even in tournaments right now.
But yeah, the only thing from this list pvpers really care about would be the skins and finishers I would say – since gw2 is a cosmetic game.

We have something like this via Magic Find.
While not exactly a boost to Reward tracks it does affect the loot you get from the tracks bags / boxes / chests.
and refuses to spare the life in return for the surrender at discretion (unconditional surrender)
of a vanquished opponent.
