i'd like to know how much damage im doing
no thx… would you like to get these = “you only did xxx amount of damage and you play class xxx you are kitten” or “L0L you play support guardian and you healing is so low wtf are you doing???”

Im not a fan of this either, but it would be nice to see it – i could go either way.
on one hand, its nice to have some form of benchmarking, on the other hand, it makes people build completely for damage etc. (or overweight AOE Damage vs single target etc).
just wish we could go see more of ANYTHING in general – k/d ratio, finishes, wins/losses, best team, best combo of classes, etc.
I wouldn’t care so much for damage but I would like a healing one. Considering this game doesn’t have dedicated healers per say I would like to know what I’m contributing if I’m attempting to do so.
maby only you could see it in your score screen

i would like to have a death log when i face npcs.
I would like to see this feature, it gives you more goals while playing other than top points, i don’t really care if people call you out for bad damage and i rarely see it in WoW only when someone says to their team , you played rubbish ect then everyone calls that person out if they have bad damage done or kills.
And even if someone calls you out just ignore them you are a much better person for doing so.

You already see that. That’s the fallacy of logic with this argument.
People who choose to use statistics to berate others will do so no matter what. They will use phrases like “lol you need 3 people to win 1v1” or “lol nice tank spec noob you died in two seconds”.
They will make things up. I had a Thief Steal/Fear my Necro and then complained that I was dead if teammates didn’t show up. That I had blown all my CD’s and used everything. Kinda odd that I can use all my abilities while feared for 3 seconds.
Point is that the logic behind “NO STATS CUZ PEOPLE WILL ONLY PLAY FOR STATS” is flawed because those people already play for stats. Removing them from a scoreboard doesn’t mean anything to these people and does nothing to stop them from berating others.

why do people immediately reject this idea because it may promote the bashing of players. Who cares what that person thinks? Ignore them? I dont care if someone calls me out.
i need to see my damage in comparison to other players damage so i can benchmark myself, my class, and the players im playing with.
yes this may promote bashing other players, but HOW is it any different then being bashed on for having a low point score?
its NO different.
you carebears who immediately think of how this may negatively effect you, and then decide that the chance of someone calling you out for low damage/healing is worth depriving the community of a simple and effective way of benchmarking classes and players?
GG this community sucks worse than ToR’s

so what your saying is a game that doesnt have healers needs a healing done tab more than a damage done tab?
honestly posts like this just prove how braindead half the posters are. maybe i missed something here, but i really feel like 90% of the posters dont think before they do so, and i hope arena net sees this.
we need damage meters. i NEED to know how much damage im doing so i can compare them to other spec’s damage.
this would also make it easier for us to give you feedback on OP/UP specs and builds, arenanet.

How does this make me braindead? You should be able to TELL how much damage you’re doing, LOOK AT THE NUMBERS. I can’t tell how much healing I’m putting out on other people. Even if numbers fly up there’s tookittenmany. There are dummies to go test on in the mists, use them. The reason we don’t need damage meters is because that’s pretty much what everyone DOES.
Either you burst or your condition. That’s about it. The cookie cutter builds have been around for quite some time, you’re not going to magically stumble on some powerful build, it’s all been tested.
The fact that you mentioned a damage meter already indicates perhaps you’d be better suited to PvE, there is no way to meter or tell how good you’re damage was in PvP because it’s too sporadic and random in fights.
this is for guys who want to benchmark classes in pvp = would it be ok if there was a personal instance with 1 AoE pack and 1 single target dummy to dps and you could see your damage and you could reset it when you want

Yeah, I’d really like to see a damage meter, even if it’s only personally visible. It’s very hard to accurately judge a damage build’s effectiveness without a meter or a detailed combat log. Hell, give me a target dummy with 100k health and I’ll use a stopwatch. Anything. Please.
There should be, at the very least, personal stats for damage and healing that show up at the bottom. I’d advocate comparative stats too if they could think of creative categories for support (total boon duration, combo fields generated, etc…)
“Score” is supposed to be an amalgamation of your stats and map presence but its pretty flawed. Having top score is usually a sign of good performance, but you can also win the game for your team and be well towards the bottom.
I don’t like how score is given out, it encourages bad gameplay. People just run around madly trying to get in on all the caps, they also stop attacking alive people to hit downed people a few times just to get the 15 or so points from it. This is supposed to be a very strategic pvp setting (hince spvp) so I think the way score is given out should be totally reworked.
currently the score system promotes point whoring and zerging. adding more stats to the scoreboard really has no downside.
You should be able to intuitively feel how well you are doing in a given game or with a certain prof.
Sure number can help you min max, but this style of SPvP is more about placement and skill and correct ability usage than maxing that extra 200 DPS out.

so your saying i should have to count my damage? yeah ill just go back to WoW or ToR. Dont make such black and white responses. Damage meters would be a very strong addition to min maxing builds, and telling which classes are OP/UP

I never understand this argument.
Why would somebody pointing out that you may be doing badly and could be doing a lot better be a bad thing?
Even if it’s done in a rude way…I’d rather know if I’m sucking than going on being ignorant of my shortcomings because I want to live in rainbow sunshine land where nobody says anything mean.
I must say its quite hard to tell with my ele when 3-6 spells can hit at the same time.

No I didnt say that, do you know what intuition even means? Not sure why you would mention WoW as an example considering WoW is the perfect example of why min maxing and damage meters can take the fun out a game for some people.
Damage meters are nice for PvE, yes I agree but in this style of PvP it’s nigh useless considering one Rangers LB Barrage will completley skew results compared to a SB single target Ranger. Total damage is a useless stat and always has been.
PvP dps is also incredibly variable and unsustained it is only marginally useful to the point there are a lot more important things that ANet can implement before damage meters for SPvP.
I’m sorry if this is still to black and white for you.
I’d also like to see damage totals at the end up the game. This was always something fun for me to look forward to, so as to see how well I did in that aspect of the game. I already know how well I did in the objective aspect of the game, because that’s easy to recognize just by doing it – and measurement systems are notoriously bad at tracking how well a player fared in terms of objectives (this game is a perfect example) while tracking something basic like damage numbers works fine.
Honestly, it also helps people to evaluate themselves and see where they need improvement. Once again, evaluating objective play is doable without some kind of help from the game, but part of playing even an objective based map is putting out damage/support, and if I could see these numbers at the end I could evaluate whether or not I’m doing well in these areas so as to improve my game.
well said poster above me who i cant quote
Only if you can only view your own totals, otherwise it becomes like Rift where everyone was just trying to get the big numbers on the scoreboard.

as if people right now arn’t just trying to farm points by stacking 5 on a node to get the 10 points while the other bases are being lost.
people are going to stat kitten no matter what, dont punish the people who want to use the system to better themselves because of the stat kittens to contribute nothing to the game.
also for example you play a good team in a tourney, your losing. you want to know why you are losing and which player on the enemy team is doing the most damage. this helps also.
please anet, also let us duel

And what’s wrong with that? It’s fun!
Now mind you, I can see two problems with this.
One is that people could start berating folks on their team for failing to contribute enough. This was a notorious problem in WoW raids. However, I don’t think its a problem here because the PvP isn’t even server specific, so you hardly ever see the same people again. Furthermore, whatever folks want to do this kind of thing already seem to do it based on the scores we’re currently provided with.
The other is that some people might start playing for the high score instead of playing for the objectives, but once again, folks already do this about as badly as they could ever be expected to, so there’s nothing to lose.
In TOR, I was one of the best gunslingers on my server and it was always fun to find myself in a warzone with another really good gunslinger and try to get the top DPS. I’m a highly objective oriented player, so I never sacrificed playing the map correctly to aim for the DPS, which made it all the more fun to get the high score (which I did most of the time )
It also made those matches more bearable where you wound up on an awful team or were getting stomped, since even though as one person there wasn’t a whole lot I could do to change the outcome of an 8v8 alone, I could still aim for the top score between the two teams.
I’d love to be able to have these same kinds of experiences in this game.
