is there really only noobs left in this game?
I demand you use proper grammar and correct warrior build to “hambot”
or why nearly everbody whine hard about longbow power ranger builds?
i know much good players stoped playing this game,
but really, is there nobody left who is able to EASY handle power rangers?it’s interesting how everybody starts whinig hard for anets help to nerf power ranger builds fast again if they get a bit dangerous and more then a complete freekill.
this profession/build is not even in the state to get good for tpvp teams, but peoples already cry like babys.
i don’t see power rangers in a big advantage if they have to face this profession builds.
celestial d/d ele
celestial staff ele
condi engi
condi warrior
hambow warrior
condi necro
s/d thief
meditation guardian
shatter mesmer
(spirit ranger
beastmaster ranger)vs some of them i think a power ranger have even big problems to deal enough damage before he get outsustained really fast (celestial, burning etc.)
and if you lose vs a longbow power ranger when you use one of this profession builds, the power ranger deserved the win vs you (if it was a 1vs1 situation)
in a teamfight situation ofc you have to target a power ranger, but that is the same like you have to target a necro really fast.
and if you do this a power ranger will also die fast.at least power ranger is a high risk build, you can die really fast if you don’t watch the enemy animations well.
so stop whine on ranger before you started whine on builds like celestial d/d or staff elementalist, sodier warrior, turret engi and all this nice tanky cheese also deal much damage.
You probably do not get it. Power ranger is no longer power ranger, it is machine-gun ranger. He kills a player extremely fast, from range (aka distance), so fast the target can not reach him. That is why so many people (aka customers) complain and consider it overpowered (or unbalanced).

This ^^
As for my own thoughts, I have said previously that I wanted to see longbow buffed. ANET went about it the wrong way though.

On my beastmaster and trapper rangers I can close the distance and pull a win without too much struggle. Both of which have a maximum range of 900. I’ve not had to duel a sniper ranger on my staff elementalist yet, mostly because they usually get melted from my AoE whenever I notice them in team fights. That or they try to snipe me and Magnetic Aura feeds them their own arrows.
Shoot, my trapper ranger can take the entire Rapid Fire and still be in pretty good condition since he has such a high armor rating. The usual 6/6/0/0/2 sniper build can’t survive any level of condition pressure for long so they will die way quicker than my trapper.
The only way you’re getting melted before you can close the distance is if you’re also running berserker or have absolutely no gap closers or ways to mitigate the Rapid Fire. Even then the other most prominent zerker profession is thief, and they have all the tools they need to get close to the ranger before the ranger can target them and unleash stabby/shooty death.
how to get him…
celestial d/d ele: blink burning speed, rtl to him
celestial staff ele: just dont care you have more sustain then he can damage
fresh air ele: well enough reflection and hard instant burst to always win.
thief: port as often you want to him
meditation guardian: blink to him, immobilize him with scepter
warrior: time and fake your pindown and immobilize on hammer (yes warrios should time and fake skills and not only spam them random)
mesmer: have enough clones stealth and ports to get close to the ranger and do a good damage on him.
necro: have to get a good fear, condi combo (chilll, cripple!) on him and a power ranger die really fast. if the ranger can dodge well and kite well he sould win vs necro yes.
just some easy ways to get a power ranger into a melee situation and he will already lose much hp if you do this vs him.
ofc he can try to stealth and knock you, but you can also use stability against knocks,
block and random dodges to stop him from get stealth.
and if you dodge through the rangers body if he is on longbow he get his skills on cooldown and just don’t do the longbow skill 3 of 4 (bug or gamedesign, don’t know)
there is many ways to catch a longbow ranger and get him into troubles really fast.
especially in the conquest pvp maps.
at least no reason to whine.
this build have still the same low sustain and just got damage, so it’s not a complete useless trash build you can ignore like the last 2 years.
it’s exatly what ranger should be, dangerous on range.
mesmer and necro is also dangerous on range if you let them freecast.
so just don’t let a power ranger freecast on range aswell..
There are 6/6/x/x/x Rangers and other builds which are power, too. Like Survival LB ranger.
The hardest counters 1v1 would be Mesmer, condi engi or D/P thief. Others are equal match, with D/D ele being slightly stronger with evades done right, because of sustain.

Condition necromancer should never lose to a power ranger.
Hm, I wouldn’t be so sure. Certainly not against full GC, but against more balanced builds, the outcome may vary.

What a joke.
Ele has so many projectile defenders/ invulnerable to handle power ranger.
Guardian can set some walls and laugh at power ranger at a node.
Engi can completely shut down power ranger for awhile with reinforced turret.
Spirit rangers can outlast power ranger with nature spirit, and quickly burn power ranger down with condition.
Most condition specs can burn out power ranger really quickly.
Since there’s only conquest in this game, it also doesn’t matter if you can’t reach him or not. If you dodge carefully and use your utility well, you can laugh at those power ranger who’re trying to pew pew you afar, taking so long trying to kill you and failed.
Power ranger is a very situational spec that only shines in team fight and against some more vulnerable power spec classes. and is nowhere as OP as many people claimed in TPVP.

i’d go check out the Rangers Main fourm a lot of players have provided Mathmatical facts and a Youtube video to show that it isn’t all doom and gloom.
consists of the classic power lb ranger with a signet, vs a Sword+focus zerker mesmer.
he also gives tips on how to avoid certian attacks.
I have this pet theory that the people complaining are playing other glass builds, and keep gettin ambushed ><

which all works fine and good as long as game actually works properly which it doesn’t currently
i personally found myself eating full RF within 2 dodges because apprently dodge doesn’t actually dodge anything anymore
on other occasion my dodge got interrupted, yes interruped… my thief got sent flying on the ground while mid of dodge
add to that steal bugs that consistenly either interrupt HS or port me to random location and don’t proc anything (so much for try to daze ranger with steal)
meanwhile ranger can spam their backstab version from 1500 range while i am busy dealing with bugs… i can see why there are so many complains at this point
P.S. don’t blame it on lag, i never had such consistent issues pre patch

Blame Arenanet! They refuse to segregate new players and veteran PVP players, hence when newbies got owned in matches, they come to forum to express their whining, complaining and rage.

You might give him some advice. like, always lurk in shadow? or skirmishing against a skirmisher is a bad idea? go on say something
Between a master and apprentice, i would love to see the differences.

“Rangers have always been an easy kill for thieves. This is pretty much what I do even if he did see me. Start off with Steal traited Long Reach and Hidden Thief(if it won’t bug on me, and as long as I am not in pistol range it shouldn’t), even if he shoots me the steal itself is an instant teleport negating that first arrow. Open up with pistol 1 from stealth and keep on him, stay behind him so that his knockback and stealth will fail to work. At this point he usually changes out into a Sword+Dagger/Warhorn or Greatsword. A ranger doesn’t have no aegis, blind, invul, and only 1 block on a long cooldown so you can basically abuse cloak and dagger at this range. If he manages to knock me back using his greatsword #4 I use my steal again if its up or blinding powder. After this I would open up on him again, use immobolize to keep him near you, a LB ranger build has by far one of the worst cleanse in the game with a long cooldown so he should kill himself from the bleed/confusion and torment stacks long before you take any serious damage.
However this is Tournament Season 3 so I play my ranger because I am so tired of warrior and I feel like contributing.

Medi guars eats power ranger for breakfeast. Judges intervention + retaliation + out sustaining = fml.
While I know there are definitely counters to the current power rangers, it doesn’t address the core issue that this game has and how bad the balance team is. Absolutely every skill in this game should be balanced around it not being dodged/reflected/evaded/blocked etc. If you’re balancing skill damage around those things then the sky is the limit for damage and combat becomes a game of who runs out of them first. That creates combat that has basically no strategy or tactics, aka shallow. Then you have the issues of when you don’t see the animation or have a dodge/block/etc up and someone gets insta-gibbed. It’s not fun in the least to be killed instantly from nowhere. GW2 has struggled with this problem from day 1(beta actually) and the devs still do not seem to get it. The balance in the game is just all over the map with zero consistency, it’s a game of extremes and that doesn’t make for fun combat or diverse builds.

+1. This is the truth. Balance of game dps should not be done based on dodge/reflect/evade/block. Power ranger is now an overpowered machine-gun ranger.

So it shouldn’t be balanced around the relationship between offense and defense?
Also, toughness still mitigates the burst guys. Same as it mitigates every other burst in the game. You aren’t going to get one shot by a ranger if you have decent toughness/health.

Hahaha, very funny.
What I called being way more shallow is to balance thing base on statistic only.
It creates a shallow game play of whom with more HP/toughness/damage/healing win the game, which is a pretty stupid game mechanic which has 0 depth in it.
It should base on game mechanic, skills, class relationship, counter to determine a class’s balance. Mesmer has slightly lower range and damage in terms of range attacker, but their damage is alot harder to mitigate/ prevented/dodged. Ranger has to do more range damage and hit further because there’re way more methods to counter/mitigate their damage. So many classes with projectile destroy/ reflect with very long duration, much easier to dodge the burst than from a GS mesmer, way less utility provided from the ranger’s side (mesmer has portal and blink to help out-rotate enemy’s team to create number advantage).
There’re so many things that should be taken into account in terms of balance, including meta, builds, skills, runes, sigils, etc, and statistical difference is just a minor part of the issue.
Are you talking about 1v1 on point, or general 1v1 there? Because if it’s the latter, a LB Ranger should win against most of those specs now.

Last I check, the game only has conquest mode in competitive pvp. Winning off point is pointless, just like P U mesmer able to win most wvw encounter, it means nothing in PVP.
and yet i see so many heroes talking how there’s a huge amount of builds that hardcounter the power ranger and whatnot but after my first 2 hours playing ranger at all there were very few players that could actually catch me if i decided to disengage or survive if attacked attacked from an advantage point.
reflect? no problem, LB 5 is not reflectable, jumped by other zerker? did i mention ranger has a signet that is better than endure pain now?
honestly either i’m so bad i’m just left out of all this jazz or people that claim all this on forum are either all pros and represent a -very- small percentage of the game population or aren’t actually facestomping rangers as much as they claim to. (given on my condi war power rangers are really really easy, but i suspect it has to do more with the influx of noob rangers in the game)
OP sure is asking a lot of questions. I think people whine about LB Rangers because the meta they are used to playing has shifted.
This is only my opinion… but it seems high bursts are in instead of the “bruiser” meta (D/D ele and Hambows with CCs and bursters to supplement)
We (or at least I do) see things like Double Ranger and if theres a 3rd burster (Mesmer/Thief/mb Lich Nec) then I’ve had a hard time running anything durable. Even the rotations are different. Zerging the DPS death squad far, flipping, then leaving to control mid→home with opportunistic far flips seem to be strong.
Now for the whining. People have been crying about Skyhammer for the longest time. A map that is very easy to die on and generally awareness can either keep you alive or get you killed. Now with a random ranger (or a necro if you’re 1v1ing a ranger) can mean instant death. So now the things people dislike about Skyhammer (awareness-based random stuff showing up and getting you killed quick) is happening on every map.
In my SoloQ games I often feel like having bad rangers (who aren’t good at opportunistic random plowing) compared to the impact that better rangers have is quite noticeable.
Does a sudden meta+rotation shift mean everyone is a whiny noob? No, but this is the forums – a place for people to whine.
Most of this is a L2P issue because the meta has shifted. Learn the new meta.
