lets try 1v1 balance?
You shouldn’t 1v1 balance because we have support skills/traits.
Why not try it?
Because current map objectives support team play. No 1v1 game mode exist
It’s really not a big deal. A tight team comp only matters if you limit yourself playing in a full pre. Solo queue, feel free to run whatever build you feel will contribute the most. If a selfish 1v1 build allows one to efficiently decap, cap, and defend, so be it.

Is the net skill that comes from support skills worth invalidating a few classes every patch? I’m a bit new(low skill), but I find my support skills aren’t that hard to set up and sort of have a bad risk/reward on attempting to deny them. I see things like power block on the mesmer which looks interesting but he’s not gonna interupt my mass moa or anything like that. Maybe just deny a guardians might/heal channel and that’s hardly a lot of the utility guardian offers. He does however interupt rampage and the guardians immortality and adds a 15s cooldown.
I mean, over 99% of the pvp is pugs, so although balancing the game around top level players who don’t ever main classes and only play for the tournament money is cool and all, it sort of devaluues pugs, aka the pvp we all play.
IMO balancing the game around high skill pugs > high skill tourny play because it drifts through the rest of the game better.
@abc but only a few classes can actually spec into that. The rest of the classes are dependant on their team due to having support skills instead of duelling skills so playing is just rolling the dice and hoping your team is good.

I think we should implement 1 vs 1 game modes and see what the community uses more often. Just out of curiosity. Then choose to balance 1 vs 1 or 5 vs 5. Right now It really is impossible to say which one is better because the 1 vs 1 game modes have never been tried in gw1 or gw2. However, to the op the reason why this game is so anti 1 vs 1 is because team play sells better to families that think video games make you stupid. (Team play is virtuous in america while solo play is greedy)

It’s just that by nature support skills should be weaker in 1v1. So if you balance 1v1 it would be weak and be buffed. In terms of group content selfish profession will be a lot weaker then.
well if you have most support skills doing things like might and swiftness handouts like candy then the support skills aren’t useless in 1v1.
Balancing anything for 1v1 would be a great mistake.
It’ll be like trying to change Chess to work with just one piece. It’ll become unplayable. You need all the different things in different pieces, to get an “A beats B which beats C which beats A” scenario.

B-but each class has multiple spells and mechanics
Classes should be balanced 1v1. Each class should get a 1v1 build which is about equal among all classes and a team build The team builds will synergize together better but for solo capping the 1v1 would be superior. This would encourage different game play not restrict it.
Not having mostly balanced 1v1 is largely laziness on the devs part.
Gw2 could probably be balanced for 1v1 and balancing like that would improve group balance as well. Naturally some specs that slant heavily towards mobility or team support should be exempt from 1v1 balance.
Right now a lots of specs follow a very similar spread of team support/selfishness. But they are not balanced well between one another.
Really though trying to balance this game is going to be a monster. Way too many effects to the point a basic attack is throwing out 3. There is no usable baseline for classes to be balanced against currently. The game really needs more streamlined standardization and roles.
Anet won’t balance for 1 vs 1 or 5 vs 5. They always have balanced of their gut or math like dps/ hps, and in general, stats.
Still it does sound interesting. Perhaps they could do both 1 vs 1 and 5 vs 5 balance instead of one or the other.
