lol Zero Counterplay rage quit?
Whoa whoa dont blame them, there is no counter for them.
Currently only 1-2 teams actually counter this meta out of 16 and dont blame them for anet not doing there jobs.
Good, saved me the time of watching a match that was going nowhere.
tfw went to the bathroom for a quick leak and came back to 72-0 and casters saying how this was a shame.. i think they did lol

It wasn’t intentional but they had to quit
I’d quit too. Save everyone’s time and still get paid at the end!!! woot.

By far the most entertaining and sensible part of the tournament
It’s too bad all 8 teams didn’t ragequit the tournament and save 3,000 people 3 hours each, that would have been 9,000 hours saved or 375 days. Collectively, we wasted over a year of life on that borefest

I wonder what ANET would do if every team protested the next tournament and just didn’t play.
when 200k is on the line, no one is stupid enough to just “not play” on account of an unfun meta.

It’s like throwing 200k money into the toilet.
None of them really deserve anything…
You can’t blame Zero Counterplay for conceding…against 2x bunker mes, 2x mallyx rev, and 1x tempest, a 1-cap at the start is the end of the game. The casters even said as much 10s into the game after the 1-cap was achieved.
It isn’t the fault of the players, it is the fault of the devs that they created a game that can even be in such a state that 10s in the game is already over.

The 3000 people there sure as heck weren’t there for the “boring as sin” pvp. 90% of the entertainment is twitch chat, 10% is the casters trying desperately to make the game interesting.

I’m surprised that this is not on reddit.

Can confirm, twitch chat was hilarious. The games were a snoozefest.
Looks like it’s getting to the point where Anet can’t literally even pay people to play their game.

Indeed, just shows you cant reach esports by doing nothing but throwing money at it. Such a waste.

I mean, we tried. Both reddit and forums are packed with constructive criticism and legitimate complaints, ANet hasn’t replied to a single one. There’s nothing else to do but sit back and watch their esports dream fail.

The sad thing is, them quitting has been the most interesting and talked about part of the season.

HAHA exactly. I spent most of my short time on that channel just reading the chat.

People like Colin and Grouch are part of the problem whether you think they are nice guys or not. They would have been fired by now at a lot of MMORPG companies imo. Firings used to happen a lot in this indusrty. I guess pve generates so much money for this game there cluelessness on pvp doesn’t matter.

Yeah I agree that really should have been more clear, I think we felt it was and clear that HoT was setting up the first season and obviously it was not.
In regards to balance – balance is NOT driven by our PvP Pro League, the pro league is a marketing effort that has almost zero impact on our dev team. Drawing parallels between the two is at best disingenuous.
As for viewers when it comes to the marketing side since you commented on it…pro league week one had over 400,000 unique viewers (non view bots) watch for a reasonable amount of time. That’s beyond awesome and a huge return on the investment. Are we LoL? Hell no we’re not. But PvP has been steadily growing for the last 2 years and it keeps growing faster and faster. Rather than knock it- let’s all get behind it and root for it. PvP was DoA when Gw2 first shipped, it’s amazing to watch what it has grown and turned into, how freaking cool is that?
And while we’re at it, get behind rooting for WvW and PvE to grow as well; we’re all in this together, it’s silly to knock things that are working. We have plenty of other stuff that we can make better to focus our energy on trying to improve
Are you guys surprised? This meta is cancerous. Nerf the kitten out of these cheese noskill builds to the ground.. This game is literally unplayable in current state.
Playing Smite since mid s2, f broken gw2.

I’m very familiar with where the quote came from.
The problem lies in the definition of a unique viewer. A unique view is just that, someone who popped in during broadcast and watched for a small indeterminate time before they were counted as a statistic. Beyond that, there’s nothing you can say about the user. You do not know if they were engaged throughout the entire broadcast, or if they dropped in for 5 minutes, saw the game was a steaming heap of garbage (or worse, was completely unfollowable) and decided to get out of dodge.
The fact that he shot for unique views, instead of concurrent viewership or viewership over time, is telling.

Basically he’s saying the dev team could care less about what occurs in the pro league since it’s only marketing effort.
Let’s repeat that again:

I don’t care how bad ANET is at balancing, or how lopsided a match is. There are players in pvp right now that would kill for the opportunity to play in this tournament whether they win or lose. Those member(s) of Zero Counterplay that did rage quit are as pathetic as it gets.
I have no respect for players or teams that rage quit; regardless of the circumstances, the sportsmanship goes right out the window.
How can anyone give excuses to rage quitters.

id be more interested to see the average viewing times of these 400,000 viewers and also what was the repeat viewer percentage. As Sorenstam said, it could have been lots of people curious about GW2 PvP, realised it was awful and never came back.

I agree 100%.
No matter how frustrating it is, you play for league and as such that sort of immature behaviour has no place at all.
From my point of view, the rage-quitter(s) – not the whole team per se – should receive the red card for the next season.
No respect.
None.

Considering the way this season is going, you really expect that there will be many more ESL seasons for GW2?
Maybe you should get over your jealousy and see the bigger picture here that any decent competitive gaming vet can already see. That is, GW2 as an esport has no future

Wait what? Why are you guys jumping all over Matisse and Wolf Shadow for being “jealous?” They aren’t jealous; they’re correctly pointing out that rage-quitting is unsportmanlike. Geez…

This isn’t rage-quitting though. They ended a game prematurely that was over already. There was NO POINT to playing out that match. It was a wash. They should have been applauded for bringing the biggest issue to the table rather than accused for something they didn’t do.
IdrA is rage-quitting. Hungrybox in his jigglypuff mirror match against MaNg0 is rage-quitting. Kurt Russell playing chess against the computer is rage-quitting. What they all had in common is that they were winnable scenarios but the players decided to go with their emotional “easy outs”.
Zero Counterplay didn’t rage-quit, it was only one player that quit. That player should be applauded for saving time, bringing to light the huge problems of PvP, and ultimately ending a match that was decided already and putting the castors in an uncomfortable position after those castors stated THE GAME WAS ALREADY OVER AFTER THE FIRST CAP.

That’s the most kitten able, if not amusing, part right there. You can’t walk your commentary back and say that a team calling the match is appalling after stating the match is already in the bag thanks to the current state of the meta.
