Wait what? Why are you guys jumping all over Matisse and Wolf Shadow for being “jealous?” They aren’t jealous; they’re correctly pointing out that rage-quitting is unsportmanlike. Geez…
This isn’t rage-quitting though. They ended a game prematurely that was over already. There was NO POINT to playing out that match. It was a wash. They should have been applauded for bringing the biggest issue to the table rather than accused for something they didn’t do.
IdrA is rage-quitting. Hungrybox in his jigglypuff mirror match against MaNg0 is rage-quitting. Kurt Russell playing chess against the computer is rage-quitting. What they all had in common is that they were winnable scenarios but the players decided to go with their emotional “easy outs”.
Zero Counterplay didn’t rage-quit, it was only one player that quit. That player should be applauded for saving time, bringing to light the huge problems of PvP, and ultimately ending a match that was decided already and putting the castors in an uncomfortable position after those castors stated THE GAME WAS ALREADY OVER AFTER THE FIRST CAP.
This argument implies that no decaps occurred at all during the ESL’s yesterday.
But they did.
Sugar-coat it all you want, rage-quitting is unsportmanlike.
Rage-quitting is unsportsmanlike. They didn’t rage-quit.

The next comment after was “Twitch was thanking you for saving us from watching 15 minutes of one team ramming their head against a wall while the other just spams sustain and invulns that don’t prevent capture contribution.”
He can call what he did a ragequit, but in this case I say its more just realizing that you are about to be 2-0 just like every other losing team because they gave up the first cap and decided to just walk out and save everyone’s time in a broken game. Is frustration there? Likely, but its not gonna be a deciding factor as much as “Am I seriously about to waste 15 minutes again?”
“Sorry for the unprofessionalism but this game is hardly professional in its current state.” That’s the only unprofessional thing I have seen from Moob, but its not like he is wrong either when the proof is in the history of GW2’s PvP.

Well other people on that team in reddit also call it rage quit and poor sportsmanship. I guess you can call it what you want to fit you opinion. Seem like most agree it was rage quit though.

OK, this was unsportmanship… What now?
Buff mesmers?
Do you want them to kneel down and beg for your pardon? Do you watch F1 or football?
They knew they have no chance to win! And unlike some other sports they do not have a manager, they do not have a boss to slap them on the face afterwards… They play because the are players. They were acting like a man who is fed up with all this unbalanced crap while the rules written by others failed and are unplayable….
It’s like playing as a midfielder in FIFA or the EC while every scorer is able to bring a 9mm pistol to the match…

Because people want to be arm chair coaches and tell others what is unsportsmanlike and what is not. They have no clue what it is like to be at that level and hit a brick wall that is a waste of time. To me quitting isn’t unsportsmanlike, what he did was fair. Only the ESL and ArenaNet are the ones who should have their panties in a bunch. Their product is taking a huge hit and this battered it more, and they deserved it. Everyone else who is claiming “rage quit” and “unsportsmanlike” are just blindly agreeing with how leagues view unsportsmanlike conduct and being crybabies about it.

So you say that team member on zero counterplay who say was rage quit and poor sportsman is blind and is crybaby?
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3wy1gn/zero_counterplay_leave_match/cxzvuc0
EDIT: Yes, we understand any ragequitting is poor sportsmanship and these actions are inexcusable. We understand that it is a privilege to play in proleague, but try to understand that the actions of some of our members do not reflect the rest of us or our team as a whole
Normally ragequitting is absolutely unsportmanlike, but drastic times call for drastic measures.
The game’s balance is in a horrible state and it’s gone full P2W. Absolutely nothing is getting through to the devs.
It’s definitely time for drastic measures.
If the best argument people have regarding the current problems with the meta is unsportsmanlike conduct, then I fear for a lot more than just the current state of the meta.
Holy smokes people, relax. Calling me an “armchair coach” is…crazy. My original post (quoted below) merely defended 2 posters who were accused of being “jealous” for expressing their disappointment. I couldn’t gives a rat’s kitten whether someone rage-quit in a tournament. The conversation then delved into semantics as Dale Rojo tried to tell me that quitting during a match isn’t “rage-quitting”. Do not try and turn this around on me. LOL
To be honest this just sounds like jealousy and nothing more.
Maybe you should get over your jealousy and see the bigger picture here that any decent competitive gaming vet can already see. That is, GW2 as an esport has no future
Wait what? Why are you guys jumping all over Matisse and Wolf Shadow for being “jealous?” They aren’t jealous; they’re correctly pointing out that rage-quitting is unsportmanlike. Geez…

Slandering and complaining that people with talent are ‘wasting it’ is jealousy in my book. If you wanted that opportunity as bad as you say you do then put the work in for it, don’t sit on your behind telling people in a position where they are allowed to make a choice based on their opinion what they should or shouldn’t do.
I applaud the rage quit.
That one player acting like a child highlights everything that is wrong with this game currently.
kittenty kittening balance geared towards a meta that is akin to watching paint dry.
Was what he did morally wrong? Yes
Did he do it to prove a point? Prolly not
Did his action transcend his initial intent and further drag into the light everything we’ve been saying for the past months? Yes
So for that I applaud his childish yet truthful actions, because let’s face it. If the meta was different they would of had a chance to come back
Who cares if was rage quit or unsportsmanlike? There is no balance, there is no chance to come back once the first node is capped as both EU and NA proved.
It would be another boring 14 minutes of bunkers fighting with a predictable result in the end.
That only shows how bad and sad is the state of PvP right now.
Oh and by the way, if I understood correctly, with the nerfs to Rev without touching the source of problem of the chronobunkers, Anet is buffing them even more. Would the meta change to 1 rev and 3 chronos now? Gosh, I really hope not.
And to say that the cash prize is 200,000$. I laugh so hard at this fail… Basically, anyone (and I mean anyone) could have had a shot at first place in the Pro League thanks to the meta. Even beginners. This is free money.
Anet really nailed the Esport concept. Way to go.

Was there a single exception on any map where the team who got the first cap didn’t win the game?
Didn’t think so
Thanks for this resource.
I thought what he said here just hit the nail:
ArenaColin
In regards to balance – balance is NOT driven by our PvP Pro League, the pro league is a marketing effort that has almost zero impact on our dev team.
Drawing parallels between the two is at best disingenuous.
Basically he’s saying the dev team could care less about what occurs in the pro league since it’s only marketing effort.
Let’s repeat that again:
In regards to balance – balance is NOT driven by our PvP Pro League, the pro league is a marketing effort that has almost zero impact on our dev team.
Didn’t play for 3 weeks, balance so kitten, no fun at all. Came up here to check if it had been changed: nope. See this quote: going to uninstall now I guess.
Cya. Too bad since I actually quite liked some of the new stuff HoT put out. But this game is flat out unenjoyable now.
It’s embarassing that you’re forcing people to use ESL’s crap client in 2015 especially in this game. I wont install that garbage even if I was in the pro league.

And while we’re at it, get behind rooting for WvW and PvE to grow as well; we’re all in this together, it’s silly to knock things that are working.
Newsflash: according to wvw players (or should i say mostly ex-wvw players) WVW ISNT WORKING.
Maybe if they ever went ingame or just read the wvw bit of the forums they would see what an utter fail the Deserted BL maps are and what a sorry state wvw is in.
The bit about balance not being based around pvp was equally funny.
This guy missed his calling, should have been a politician or a comedian.
Newsflash: according to wvw players (or should i say mostly ex-wvw players) WVW ISNT WORKING.
You mean the WvW they said they neglected to get their $50 sacred cow out the door, but honest to god promise that they’ll come soon™ to fix, is broken? You don’t say.
Seriously though, you’re right.
Clearly, from what i’ve been told in the forums, that is a L2P issue
Ragequit or not… Anet doesn´t listen to the forum.
So why not bring the rage into a live proleague match where thousand of people are watching and where playing this game does count cause of reward and prestige? Only in these matches u have a voice.
Noone of ANET reads the forum or watches the “normal” matches.
After this. Maybe they wake up… now? But otherwise… i don´t think so.

Yes, the tournament was so organized that they were playing against a 300 ping, and one of their members actually had a legit DC.

It’s potentially a big deal for him and his team.
Not following etiquette at a “sporting event” is a good way to get yourself banned from future ones.
Other than that. Nah.
It’s not ArenaNet’s fault that Zero Counterplay decided to field a team composition that didn’t have the tools to recover from a single capped node. Zero Counterplay decided to field a team of 2x Mesmer, 2x Revenant, 1x Tempest into an equally bunker-heavy team, and it didn’t work, but they made their bed, and they should have to lie in it. Yeah, they didn’t really have any realistic path to victory at that point, but that’s their fault for fielding a team composition where literally the only win condition is to stalemate all three nodes from the start.
Look at the EU scene. The only teams trying to field triple-bunker teams like that got beaten handily by teams that brought more firepower. You can’t deliberately field a team with fewer damage dealers than GW2 PvP has ever seen, and then complain when you can’t kill anything.
Imagine a football match where one team uses all their substitutions to replace attacking players with defensive players. If the other team then manages to score and take the lead, that team would be given HUGE penalties if they just said “well, we can’t win now, because we don’t have any goalscorers on the pitch and we’re losing” and just walked off the pitch. You can’t field a team with no forwards and then blame FIFA when your team can’t score goals.
That’s what Zero Counterplay did. They made decisions that gave themselves no win condition, then when they started to lose, they ragequit. It is ridiculously unprofessional, and they absolutely should be sanctioned by ArenaNet in some fashion, whether that’s a fine, a forfeiture of participation in future seasons, or whatever.
(edited by Slein Jinn.8173)
Slein, it’s just a game. It’s not real life- even if some people act like it’s the most important thing in the world.
They came with a build which would win if they could cap first. As soon as that failed, they knew they couldn’t win- maybe the better thing to do would be to stand in a corner? It’s a game, if you know you can’t win, move on, don’t waste your real life doing something with pixels that isn’t going to reward you anything.
If there was an option to resign from the game, then they could have taken that option.
Football is also just a game. If you’re getting paid thousands of dollars to play a game, you take it seriously, and if you don’t, there should be serious repercussions. If you’re in the Pro League, your team is going to win a minimum of $2500 USD even if you lose every game.
Their strategy was no different than a football team playing a game with 6 defenders, 4 midfielders, and no strikers. Sure, if they get a lucky goal off of a set piece, they might be able to hang on for a win, but when they concede a goal and have no way to get back into the game because of the lineup they chose, they don’t get to rage and blame the game; they’re in that situation because of the choices that they made, and they have an obligation to see the match through to its conclusion.
You guys bringing Pro-Sports into this discussion fail to mention the fact that said players sign contracts which prohibit them from certain behaviors less they face fines, suspension etc (ragequit from game would be fined).
Do the ESL players sign such a contract, and if so does this action violate a clause? That is the only true question that matters.
Everything else is just drama. lamas
For everyone bringing real sports as a example. Dont forget the USA vs russia in russia Olympic gold medal game. Doug Collins has spoken about it a few times and that USA team didnt go to the medal ceremony and those silver medals are still sitting somewhere.
For something to be a PROFESSIONAL SPORT like gw2 is trying to do now. It has to have equal parts of ability of play. The ability for defense and offense to have a chance to dictate a match. This game has to be like a NBA 5 vs 5 where 1 year a defensive Dallas Mavericks with 1 star player can win it. OR a collection of superstars in there primes like the Heat with Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris bosh. Or simple 5 guys who play together and even though there past there primes teamwork and communication can still allow them to dominate like the San Antonio Spurs.
Atm GW2 is nothing like this, every team and there mother played bunker mesmer since it was the best bunker build. I could go on about the other classes but atm this games balance doesnt have the ability to be a pro level game. It can easily get there but it will take anet some creative thinking to give multiple classes to play multiple play styles with in a team setting.
It may be unsportsmanlike but hell, i don’t get the hussle about it. In other games you call it gg and that’s it. If its clear that a game is lost, why the hell not?

technically we didn’t even run bunker mesmers and had the most DPS comp with the exception of maybe abjured (if you argue engi > viper mes). We had dps oriented cele mesmer, viper mesmer, viper rev, viper rev, and tempest. Tempest was technically the most tanky spec on our team.
and it’s likely we’re going to lose 10% of our prize money due to a major penalty point as defined by the rules btw.
Remember you can only call yourself a real “pro” when you get paid to compete Everyone in the pro league are professionals in that respect.
Was 0 counterplay unprofessional for quitting?
Yes
Was it justified?
No. I give them lots of cred for attempting to differentiate from the full bunker meta but in a competitive environment, despite how disgusting the meta, they should have known the outcome for taking such risk
Did they do the right thing?
Yes. I, along with many others were thankful they did what they felt they had to do.
….now i see why Pvpers get mad when guardians complain about the disbalance of teh DH spec. Theres bigger fish for the devs to fry
