Add a minimum of r20 and 50 unranked games for play ranked games. It’s easy.

So the issue for you is getting matched with inexperienced players? I don’t want to toy with the matchmaking rules for ranked while the ladder is active, but I’ll talk with the team about possibly increasing the PvP rank distance scoring for unranked arena.

We’re also looking into long term solutions to the problem, so thanks for the feedback.

You know how many legendary champions I spot that are outright terrible? But like really, really, really bad? Rank is kittened because of two years hotjoin farming, no need to focus on that anymore.

A lot of players will be happy if you make this change.

Players only farming bosses, bad rotations, pve or bad builds , people fighting outside points are the issue.

people matched with 10/-10 of their own rank, wouldnt that be the whole point of the matchmaking system? i mean it would seem so since its like that in every other game, but instead we’re always pitted with people of completely different skill level. I’m pretty sure alot of you have noticed in recent games,it has always been winning by 400 points or losing by 400 points, i mean that kind of tells you that somethings not right. i dont even care about the people fighting off point and bad rotations, nor do i care about the bad legendary champions, but if im constantly getting 2,3,4 people on my team who are 60 ranks below me, then i guess pvp isn’t something to invest time in anymore.

In general I agree, I have seen way too much people doing dumb kitten like caping a completely uncontested point with 2+ people, going for neutrals while there is a crucial fight at a node, not going for stillness/tranquility at all and kitten like that.

However you would also keep a small amount of people (like me for example) out of the core game-experience and in hot-join/unranked hell for a longer than necessary time. Like I know that my rotations are still pretty bad and I don’t always target the right enemies in teamfights and such, but I at least understand the fundamentals and try to play team-oriented (rotating, backcaping, calling stuff) and I can’t really improve on things like rotations in hot-join since 90% of fights seem to happen out in the open and nowhere near an objective (dragging on for minutes without anyone doing kitten else than dishing out damage and healing themselves, no stomps/revives just pure skill-spam madness).

Just to add my two cents here, I stopped playing a couple months ago, burned out h a r d (how does that become kitten? o.O) on the pvp after a couple months of Mistpedia 2v2s and ToL2. I just came back recently and decided to give pvp a swing again. I’m already ready to quit again. Now that the ranked pvp is merged every match feels like the old solo arena except now you occasionally get pitted against a premade and its even worse. Playing with one friend made it barely worth the effort but queuing by myself? My team has never hit 200 points and they just zerg points. So yeah, matchmaking isn’t broken it is nonexistent. I’m shark rank…. shouldn’t be queued with the bottom most rungs not to be an elitist, just totally unfun. Maybe I’ll check it out in another couple of months again.

No, matchmaking focuses primarily on MMR, which tends to be far more accurate than rank. Of course we can do more to reduce the rank gap, so I’ll take a look at your games and see if anything stands out,

Rank is only an indicator of time played, not skill.

You’re effectively saying you don’t want to play with accounts that don’t have a certain amount of time in PvP.

Time doesn’t mean as much as skill, agreed. But the more you play the better you get, no matter what. So yeh rank SHOULD be factored in. Say in League or Smite, the higher my level gets the harder the match ups generally get, this is because that DOES get factored in and it SHOULD.

Win rate is a far better determinant of skill…. after a certain point. But a matchmaking system where a rabbit whose played 4 matches and won 3 is considered high tier like a dragon whose won 1000 and lost 300 is not a good system, its not even decent. Time does add to skill, even if a dragon isnt always better than a rabbit.

I mean like, I really enjoyed (and still do) the gameplay but it is one of the worst matchmaking systems I’ve seen. I mean yeah basing it on rank alone would be terrible, but I mean it should be to some degree. Like within a certain amount of ranks of each other it should be based on win ratio or personal points rather than rank but someone with 10x more matches played than someone else is going to be better than them in the vast majority of examples. There are some exemplary rank 10’s sure, but they are the exception not the rule, and having them play with other people their rank for awhile would only help them get better.

I have played loads of matches before this ‘new matchmaking’.
Never a big problem, you win some, you lose some.
Sometimes you had a winning streak, sometimes you lost a few in a row.

After the matchmaking?
Played over 50 games.
Only won one, and then I am not even starting about the bullkitten that is called celestial engineers and d/d eles that ruin the format ( the team with the most celestial abusers wins).

Always enjoyed pvp, but I see it is time to say goodbye to it now.
Losing is ok.
Losing 40+ times in a row versus celestial bs and premades is not.

since patch i soloqued a few games in ranked and they all happened to be good games, only 1 blowout rest all whitin a 100 score difference at the end (1 with an epic comeback scenario). While my sample is small i feel like games at my MMR (whatever that is) are actually fairly well assorted.

the issue is probably a lot brighter in lower areas where rookies can meet the bare minimum mmr requirement and off-peak times (the matchup does bad stuff in off-peak times)

The problem with using RANK for MMR aswell as games played win/loss ratio.
Is to my knowledge that now it takes no dedication or skill whatsoever to reach R80.

I recently (3weeks ago) returned to gw2 after a 14month hiatus, to find that i was R57 as i was back then. now im nearly 80, and that’s just not right in my book, there needs to be added some ranks to it, and they need to be VASTLY more difficult to obtain than it is to obtain R80. or a secondary rank, that can be used to calculate MMR properly.

Right now the leaderboards are a clear sign that things are horribly wrong, just take a look at the NA leaderboard – as im writing this, the #2 has 29games won and 23 games lost – with 55.77% win ratio.

scroll down abit and you’ll see Rat Meta, he has 29games played and 29games won – ergo a 100% win rate. now – wether he is soloing (not really looking possible with matchmaking atm, since luck plays its part) or has a full team, he is the current top player on NA, so why is he #12 rather than #1 ?

I know you want effort to play a role in the leaderboards, but effort does NOT = skill, and the leaderboards are there to reflect skill, to tell us whos the best.

Right now the leaderboards are about as usefull as the map selection system, 9votes for 1 map, 1 for another, and the one with just 1 measely vote wins. I’ve had it happen more than half my games during the temporary ladder, and it’s frustrating. as is the idea – of committing yourself to outplay everyone, only to find that you’re not getting the recognition for your acchievements that you deserve.

He’s not top player NA. My team literally destroyed his team in rated and the 2 recent 2v2s…. Hes taiwanese? I think which means he plays very early in the morning wheen there is no competition.

Like the whole PvP mode in the game since its release more then 2 years ago. Or back then it was (pre)alpha? Maybe in 2-3 years from now, we could see the gold version of your “product”.
