while most of y’all are niggling about such and such % change and having this and that game mode, the most important parts of why spvp is not appealing to more casuals or considered decent to many current and potential pvpers are mostly being neglected and not brought up enough.
the way professions and combat were designed are boring, limited and not interesting for the long run. there is only so much you can do with a few buttons, builds, set ups and suits of armor. until there are more profession building options, offerings and variety outside of gear, the player vs player apsect of this game will never take off. ever.
aks yourself this, when profession levels are increased, how do you think combat will unfold then?
*my answers- certain professions and builds will still outshine others. bunker/burst and capture the circle will still be the main designs. my number #1 skill will hit harder and my self heal will heal more. i will have different gear to choose from. that’s kinda it in a nutshell.
professions in this game were intentionally designed to be simple and limited, that’s the core flaw. simple and limited are currently passable in open world pve and zergfests, but will not hold players long term interest (or short term as seen in spvp) unless some serious changes and separations to performance between pve/dungeons and pvp/wvw are made. i know a lot of love and hard work has gone into this game but the current design philosophy for professions and combat is more for the developers sanity and not the players enjoyment.
there are some cool “features” with professions and combat and small thing to be improved, but the fundamental things y’all should be addressing with the devs the most is how to make the core profession mechanics and the combat designed around these professions better. if we don’t press the devs on these main issues then we will always get nominal changes and results, and spend most of our game sessions hitting #1, dodge rolling, self healing and running in zergs where nothing but player numbers matter.
thanks for reading!

If we count NA and EU, current PvP community is what, 200 people?
Don’t expect any redesigns to please 200 people.
i’m all for more segregation between the PVE game and the PVP.
Though i dont agree that it was designed to be limited, if anything it was designed to be TOO customizable. I wrote a thread kinda shedding light on this.
but to stick to your point, i think the reason you feel like you dont have many options is tied directly to balance.
A lot of play styles and weapons on each profession give you the feeling that you can play a certain way, even some of the traits hint at these further, yet they fall short and dont work.
I think if you went to each profession and read their complaints and compiled it into one document you’d have a pretty clear picture what needs to happen to make the game feel more dynamic.
I only made rank 11 and have pretty much given up on the entire thing. It’s repetitive and incredibly unbalanced between builds and professions.
I agree. Lots of people have been saying this from day 1. The system was designed to be simple and easily understandable for new players. They somehow didn’t think about the cost this would bring for more advanced players. While in GW1 the build making options were super high, and after 6 years I could still come with powerful new builds, in GW2 I pretty much ran out of ideas after 2 days. And always running the same setup (obviously) gets boring.
Traits are very limiting because of how you unlock them, with a linear point system. If all traits were one big pool and you could pick a few out of that, that would be a start to improving our build options.

Some builds are a bad , we all know that some things will never work.
As far as i can see all classes have several diffrent build that is good and variations of those.
I play Ranger as main and actualy have 2 diffrent ranger so i can have 2 of my favorite builds. migth actualy buy a new slot so i can have a third one too.
My alt is a messmer and they too have several good builds.
Not all build are good by themself, they need a team( one that synergise with the builds) to work propperly.
(btw i dident make a good build byemyself untill i where close to rank 30)
