Best thing to know: Use stun or daze at the end of their evade frame then sneeze on him, or use AoE.
I see this suggestion a lot. And it doesn’t really make sense. Most interrupts are on at least 1/4 casting times, some more. Taking server latency into consideration and the fact that the time between the end of the evade frame and a new evade frame is slim. Even a player who is skilled would not be able to consistently interrupt a thief at the end of their evade frames.
Yeah actually, you can. DB and lotus you basically just interrupt about 1/2s after the animation starts. Super easy. Also, you ignored the AoE suggestion, which is more brainless than the evade spamming thief with several classes, and is quite effective.
Forget about whether this is OP or not…it’s just dumb design…what sane person would design such a playstyle. Who internally tested this and said “yeah..this is good design!”
There are MUCH better ways to make thieves viable. Many new players who encounter shenanigans like this immediately think “wtf” and just quit.

See also: unkillable ele, unkillable mesmer, dragonhunter traps, necro corrupt on auto/aoe cancer, aoe cc everywhere. Those are/were problems. A non meta thief build that kills noobs easily with spammy gameplay is not great design, but at least it has good counterplay, unlike some other problems.
I’ve tried d/d condi and it isn’t as easy or as powerful as some are saying. The only people I killed either were weak to condi and would have died to any condi class, or just stood still or tried to run away because they didn’t know what to do. You still get hit inbetween dodges and die pretty fast because you have no other defense.
Staff is awesome, but dodge spamming doesn’t work with it unless someone is standing still or running in a straight line. I don’t see why someone would run d/d with a staff, because they need different builds and running a shortbow or 2 of the same weapon set is better.
I am starting to know for sure that a lot of more people are using this build and are defending it in every way and saying they are not playing it.
I have lost belief now in the people commenting on this post that are like you need to do this and this to counter it.

How deal with this…kinda…em …build as ele: static aura + team does aoe cleave = thief dead.
Eh if only there was more of these kind of thiefs in higher divisions^^. Eh dreaming.

Even if it was unbeatable in a 1vs1 scenario, the lack of a SB means they can not do the usual “Thief Shinanigans”. A truly capable “backcap/+1 thief”will make this look like silly child’s play.
Seems to be the type of build that causes newbies to commit suicide by trying to fight it melee or by not kiting it.

Ether rework this skill or just leave a blank slot in its place. After the patch there has been a resurface of the d/d condi thief build (odd since this particular build got absolutely no changes), and while i have no problem with thieves playing condi i do take a issue with a build that only spams the number 3 weapon skill and the dodge key.
It is not fun to play it is not fun to play against it looks kittened and it is a testimony of poor skill design, i mean ask yourself this: is something wrong with a weapon set and a build that only ever uses 1 out of 5 skills? It is an abomination do something about it!!!
and i still stand behind what was said, it is simply a badly designed skill. The build itself is not that strong as it has limited number of conditions and it takes time to stack them (unlike say berzerker with skull grinder that can put on ~5 different ones with 1 button press) but it is just not fun to play against
For anyone who is still wondering this is the build, or a version of the build that is most cancerous(acrobatics is interchangeable with deadly arts for passive dagger poison and bewildering ambush for sleight of hand)

Between channeled vigor and the adventurer rune and the acrobatics buffed vigor and brawler’s tenacity trait you have a ungodly amount of dodges, and this is on top of death blossom. On top of that you remove condis and get initiative back when you evade something, so yea not fun to play against.

You can take sb in place of staff and it works just fine, just that you loose some power pressure is all. It is better to use sb as mobility is more important than 3 ~4k vaults, but most ppl use staff instead in this setup for some reason.

I see. Was dueling a friend of mine a while back who ran that type of build. He still couldn’t beat me on my condition warrior, though. It would end similarly against a scrapper or a herald.
Seems to be a newbie trap only if multiple opponents die to them at the same time.
Still, doesn’t mean such an easy to play build should wield such good results. Though honestly, one could probably claim the same thing about any of the meta classes nowadays. The entire PvP side of this game is just too passive, forgiving and ultimately boring now.
Ok condi d/d is not a problem lol, I am the only condo I’ve seen in high level play (legendary twice), the reason why is because I perfected the build I use and it’s a burst build with heavy poison, we have our openings and I’ve seen people counter me with it but it’s far from op, it’s easily the biggest job stomped build out there but it’s has its downfall.

Do you play the meta d/p thief build? If not, I encourage you to try it: it will teach you how to consistently interrupt whatever skill you want by timing your headshots. You can even interrupt a Scrapper after the first leap of Rocket Charge (but most of the time you won’t try because the reward is not worth the risk, still cool though).
In the past, when CC and unblockable stuff were less common, all the sport was to time your Magnet on engineer to interrupt Shelter. But the cast time was so long that you had to press the skill before the guardian pressed his heal keybind, so you had to hard read him. Good times.
Can be dealt with but still dumb game design. Its bad because at lower level of play its totally brain dead. A noob will certainly be able to own another noob just by evade spamming. Its just dumb.

Plz fix this one, they press 3 and only need to spam that skill with a bit of dodging in between killing entire teams, because they are abusing evading stuff like mad.
I have purposely not use this build on my thief, because i already found it stupid and no need for any skill to use it.
But its now getting to the point that it really really needs a nerf,
To make it more clear, they burst you with not only power dps, but also condi bursting, they can non stop evade and dont need invisibility and they have non stop cleanse.
The only way to stop it wich is very hard to do, because of the jumping spam to lock them down and finish directly or else its jumping fest all over.
This should be nerfed, i mean seeing complete teams also die because of this build, think about it if you have a team full of those thieves, they can litterly and easily beat everything.

There’s a few variations of the build. I’m not big on the d/d version, it takes too long to kill someone with it. The other versions, are far and away much stronger and can fill the role of d/p power thief. It’s overall, at least to me, a stronger build. Plus it has some extremely favorable 1 v 1 match ups.
I’m currently running out something i threw together. Dagger/dagger. Deadly Arts, Trickery, Daredevil.
Dagger training (poisons), potent poison, uncatchable (caltraps) bewilding ambush (confusion stacks) and lotus training. With nightmare rune.
Could use some build suggestions? Using elite venom and poison venom, dodge heal, shadowstep, and signet that cures condis and refills endurance.

I’ve not had problems with this thief build structure at all.
I main Warrior, Reaper, Druid, with some DH play in there from time to time.

It’s not op that’s the thing it does very easily with the amount of Aoe CC being thrown around, any type of immob or rooting cc stops it dead in its tracks, then the thief melts it lacks mobility and the bread and butter interrupts. It’s great against new players and players that don’t know how evade frames/ Thief weapon sets work.
I find the D/P build to be far more viable for the utility and mobility it brings but I mainly play S/D for the boon strips that help in the boon spam meta it does better overall vs D/D Condi thief.
