on the new map, you get roughly the same reward for delivering an orb. 30 pts or 15 pts + a neutralization. what stops a team from downing a player very close to a point then picking the orb up and just immediately scoring? this is like playing soccer with one gate…
also points can change ownership, why not just make people deliver it to their bases?
Depending on your situation it may be worth the risk? Do you even consider the fact that the course of every game isn’t already dictated?

Yeah, can any dev confirm? Can we pick up the dropped orb like loot or does it disappear from the former orb carrier and reset in its original location? XD

“opportunity cost” it will add a dynamic to the game.. yes you can insta cap that node but the risk is that you will be downed and lose the orb other team picks up scores..
it can go both ways

the cost is losing the orb to the other team
this will add strategy to the map
making them deliver to their own base is like sooooo boring and generic..

Hey, I just wanted to pop in and clarify. The orb does indeed drop if the carrier becomes downed. There is a 15 second window at that point where it can be picked back up by either team. If not, it resets back to the altar. Whether or not the orb should drop to the ground, or reset back to the altar, was something that came up during our internal play tests and discussions and I think there are good arguments for going either direction. Ultimately I think the pacing is better when the orb is constantly being scored, rather than if it’s deadlocked because neither team can make it all the way to a capture point before they get downed. However this is something we’ll keep an eye on once the map goes live, and is something we can easily go back and revisit if it becomes a real problem.
Dropped on down state? Looking forward to getting on my thief and backstabbing for it at the last second in hotjoins.
Seriously though, wouldn’t it make sense to have it “lock” itself onto the ground for like 10 seconds when dropped ? Unless of course moving the orb was supposed to function as a zergfest where downing someone out of nowhere and quickly picking up the orb to score isn’t really practical/possible.

Actually Hutball was pretty terrible.
Though it could just be my opinion. Since republic was pretty much non-existent on my server, all we did was Empire vs Empire Hutball all day long.

agree with OP, orb neutralizing the point is bad idea, its like a godlike buff, not a flag to capture… no need to think before capping…
