Well, for example in the beginning of a match.
Since you don’t cap a point faster when you’re capping with more than one guy, it doesn’t make sense to stay there with the other dude if no enemy is crossing to get your close.
If no enemy is in sight, why would you stay there with another player while your help is needed on another point.
It’s common tactics that e.g. 1 player caps close, while the rest goes mid or far. It’s ok for a second player to walk over close though, just in case the enemy invades. But if not, I understand why players get kitten ed if you stick next to them.
I hope you understand what I’m trying to explain and it didn’t sound harsh.

Oh I didn’t know you don’t capture faster with multiple players capturing that’s important info I guess.
Other stuffs make sense too..

It’s very counter-intuitive since that’s how every other capture mechanic in the game works.

You probably have a background in Battlefield where the amount of players capturing matters

Not battlefield but many other conquest-type game yes:)
There isn’t really a meta for what each class does but there are some rules of thumb, that are very subjective to each game.
-Immobile classes should not push far. You will eventually get 1v2ed at far, and your class should be able to disengage quickly. Also, never have your whole team at far point, its the biggest mistake I see happening, my team wins close and mid, “oh well, only far is theirs, lets ALL go far!!”. You should focus on mid and close, and harass far, most times you shouldn’t even full cap far. Sometimes it’s better to decap far, go mid and win your team the team fight (the opponent will be outnumbered because you forced someone to go recap close) then go back to harassing far.
-A tanky spec usually caps close point (your condition mesmer will do, as long as it isn’t stealth heavy). This is so you can either take a beating for sometime (even if against 2 opponents) and give time for your team to come and help you. BUT, playing on close point doesn’t mean “stay there the whole game”.
-Bunker guardians usually go straight to mid point and stay there most of the time. Even if you don’t have a guardian, someone should always stay on mid point.
So the basics really are
- Don’t stand on home (your closest cap point) when someone else is there and there are no enemies around.
- Your personal score doesn’t matter at all, do not worry about what your individual score says. Its all about your team score and THAT is what gets you the most rank points and glory, not your individual score.
- Fight as a team and be supportive of your team, use team supportive abilities.
- When you’re invisible it will not cap the node so be strategic about when you use invisibility. There are times you must use it to survive but keep in mind that you will not be helping with the cap itself while you’re invisible.
Mesmer Support
People truly underestimate the capabilities a mesmer has to support a team. You have a ton of support abilities especially as a condition mesmer. Chaos field grant boons to you and your allies and conditions to your foes. The elite ability Time Warp grants all your allies quickness with their attacks so they can potentially be twice as lelethal. Null Field in my opinion is your best utility ability. It rips all of the conditions off of you and your allies and not to mention it is an ethereal combo field. As a condition mesmer combo fields are extremely important if you use them right. If you use a blast finisher such as the prestige on the torch inside of an ethereal combo field it gives your WHOLE team chaos storm. In my opinion this is the best combo you have for your team. Utilize it.
Roles
There are specific roles that certain builds and in some cases a certain class utilize the best. As a condition mesmer in my opinion I feel you have a lot of team support and combo fields and I feel you would be best at mid supporting your teammates to win and hold mid. That is an example of a specific build role, a specific class role which there aren’t many but thieves usually do best harassing far and decapping as well as taking down the opposing teams treb or using your teams treb and protecting it. There is a couple great videos dictating roles and how to play certain maps here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Guide-2-is-up-Veteran-moves-guide/first#post3359317
Hope that helps!

Umm nope, as soon as someone stands on the point, it stops capping as soon as one enemy player stands on the point. Doesn’t matter if there’s 1 or 5 of your team.

Well thanks for letting me know that >.>…always thought it was the other way around with people always saying to fight on the point when they’re already in it. Goes to show you don’t know everything. I edited my post
Don’t duel off nodes
.
be purposeful. Always be doing something that is benefiting your team.
don’t hound chase low health players all over the map. It usually doesn’t end up well for you.
be purposeful with your attacks. Spamming all things at all times usually won’t end well for you.

Thanks guys!
I’m a bit confused as how to play this mode correctly because it happened multiple times that my teammates said stuff like “why are u here” or “don’t follow me” “go away” etc.
Conquest is a numbers game. Its all about having the right number of people at the right place at the right time.
If i join a hotjoin, its very common that i push clocktower (mid) and am forced to fend off 3 people solo while i see 3 teammates on our “homepoint” waiting for that point to cap.
The same applies for a situation where you outnumber a certain person. Lets say you are 3v1 in the middle fight vs a single slippery thief for example. This basicly means the rest of your team is 2vs4 on the rest of the map. When im in a situation like this i usually lend a very quick hand to help the kill (since im there anyway)….but make sure i disengage within seconds.

Is this kind of stuff mentioned in the game? I feel that’s where it’s best explained, the overwhelming majority of the player community doesn’t visit forums.
I read through every post and feel like I learned a lot so thanks, I’m a bit more confident to queue for that solo arena.
Out of curiosity, what utilities are you using? And build?

Especially “your personal score doesn’t matter”. Why does it even exist? (I know why, but I wish it didn’t.)
Hello I haven’t been playing gw2 for very long but I started to do more and more sPvP because I really enjoy it especially the 5v5 solo arena mode but I’m a bit confused as how to play this mode correctly because it happened multiple times that my teammates said stuff like “why are u here” or “don’t follow me” “go away” etc.
So I would like to ask is there a meta or some general tactic in this game mode? I have no problem with fighting itself I usually beat anyone in 1v1 even 1v2 sometimes but I need advices regarding tactics.. (I play condition mesmer mostly)edit: If anyone wonders, yes, I read the “new to spvp” and according to it I am probably this category: Far-Point Assaulter but I still find myself in situations where I’m not sure what to do.
