Uh, keep playing. That’s all I can say really. If you want more challenge, try tPvP. Hotjoin is mostly fully of glass cannons which is probably why you’re killing quickly.

It took me a few days to start liking pvp, at first I thought it was bad too….but now I realize just how great it is. There is so much more to like in this pvp than many other MMOs, and it is just in its infancy.
ANet has said they’ll be implementing duels, but not a 1v1 ladder. Class-based games can never be perfectly balanced due to the nature of the class system unless they homogenize all classes.
Judging the game based on either 1v1 experiences, or your experience in 8v8 is always skewed as the game is designed around 5v5. Everyone runs glass cannon in 8v8 because there is no reason not to. The only people who don’t run them are those guardians who think they can hold a point vs. 5 people.
i think too many people have there own interpretation of how fast people should die in pvp.
i have survived more then 30 seconds in a 1v1, however i was survival specced not glass cannon (i did relatively poor damage even as thief).
however i dont think anet wants these long matches, they want quick fast paced matches that require reaction as much as premeditation.
lot of mmo players i think may have poor reaction skils :P
What? Crazy burst damage? I don’t know what you are talking about, as long as I dont go full glass cannon I’m able to have fun and long-lasting duels. With a point defender spec I’m able to survive against 2-3 players for 15+ seconds and 1 vs 1 I might survive indefinitely and outlast them.
P.s. who keeps spreading this kitten that we are not getting duels because Anet wants to take a different direction? There’s literally no reason to not implement a “/duel” function and Anet devs said it will eventually come if there’s enough request.
P.p.s. Low amount of CCs is a good thing because fights turn into a stunlockingfest otherwise.
P.p.s. did you just say that classes have a low skill cap and you can pick them up and perform extremely well in a small amount of time? Disagree, wholeheartedly.

On my Thief build I consistenly last for wayyy more than 30 seconds in a fight. I go for a tanky utility build though, no burst dmg. 19k hp, lots of armor, CC, lots of stealth. I usually just use my skills in sPvP to CC enemies, remove boons, heal/revive allies, etc. I rarely ever die. (I go with +regeneration while stealthed, +regeneration boon for 5 secs while stealthed, get Shadow Refuge, Blinding Powder, etc, and then Knight’s amulet for the power/tough/vitality).
Every time I Cloak from dagger 5 skill, I regen like 2.5-3k hp.
In duels (whenever I join a map and it’s like 1v1 or 2v2, I’ve had fights that go past 4 mins. I actually used Thieve’s Guild twice in one fight.. it’s 180 second cooldown.
yes, You can easily survive for more than 30 secs.. but you do have to build for it. Make sure you have a stun break, condition removals, and probably a way to heal other than your main heal skill, if it’s not up enough.
You didn’t understand elementalist in “one minute of pvp” sorry just because you made a rogue and spammed the 2 key doesn’t mean you have any understanding of GW2 pvp.
Ergo, with rogue I find there are far better ways to do things than heartseeker which I assusme you are talking about. Honestly, #2 sword is way more annoying. Shadowstep and immoblize.. if you ever get stunned, use it again and break the stun and get 1 condition removed..
But yes, you are right, I’m just adding a little detail.

Also on topic: if everyone has their char build for pure burst without defense, then the fights could last only few seconds, but those are low skilled people, that do nothing against a well placed dodge, block, retaliation, blind etc. I personally had most of my fights last more than 30 sec since i play as a necromancer, and have to outlast enemies rather then just bursting them. Besides, the dueling should and must be implemented even if everyone could only play glass canons.
Glass cannon builds are not even that effective. Throw a Confusion or toss on a retaliation, and evade/block whenever quickness comes up.. You’re golden.
