Hi what am I doing wrong why do I have a less than 33% win ratio? I expect to lose more than I win because I’m new and garbage at mesmer, but isn’t the idea of Elo or mmr to adjust the difficulty of your opponents to keep you at a reasonably even W/L ratio?

Also what are some good tactics for winning maps because all I seem to see is tanky engineer or guardian builds holding onto a point and the rest of the team fighting on the road, any tips to stop losing would be good. By the way I play mesmer but I seem to die instantly and can’t deal damage because my phantasms just get instantly AoE’d down.

You’re playing a difficult class with no experience, maybe the most difficult class atm. I’d advice you to first look up a build (link at bottom), read a universal pvp guide and then vids on how to play mesmer.

If you’re new and you’ve been losing heavily, your MMR is already at the bottom… they just can’t give you any better players to compensate. If the matchmaking is working at least a bit, the enemy probably has equally bad players but they get carried by their easy specs which allow mistakes (tanky, healing, AI).

It’s more than just that, ranked matchmaking is really terrible right now for low/mid MMR players, something ANet did (imho, they haven’t said jack) has made many people note that their win ratio dropped heavily after an update a couple of weeks ago. Go to unranked and hope they change things for the better once the “ladder” is over.

That’s not a bad ratio if you played those matches back to back ish over a day or two. Match making is very streaky at least for me it is. It’s not unusual for me to have like 7 -8 match winning streak one night followed by a 7-8 game lossing streak the next night. I think they are tweaking the way they match you, every time they change something you can expect a long losing or winning streak imo. Also as someone already said mesmers are hard to play to start out with.

You are new, can’t play the class, go ranked and then you are complaining about that you lose most of the time. well…yea..

Play unranked for awhile, get the mechanics down on your mesmer.
