- Free and Paid tournaments now have a new build-locking feature. When the countdown timer completes, players will no longer be able to change weapons, armor, skills, or traits until the match is over. This will prevent players from abusing build-swapping between fights.
They wrote this in game updates and…u can still change utility. I don’t know if developers work togheter or not.

- Locking skill bars in free and paid tournaments. This is a change that will prevent people from cheesing the ability to swap skills and weapons in-between fights in a competitive game (either a free tourney or paid tourney game). This will mean that once the game starts (the countdown is done), you will be locked into your weapon sets, utility skills, elite, etc.

I dont get it why weapons, amulets .. are restricted, but IMHO classchange during a match is still possible. Thats ridiculous.
For there to be true competitive play, everything needs to be locked – weapon sets, traits, and utilities.
You say locking things hurts competitive play? Since when is running around with my inventory and hero menu open fun? It certainly isn’t competitive when I can build wars anyone who approaches me or that I approach.
Locking things in tournaments is going to ENCOURAGE build diversity by way of people having to finally consider their build, their team build, and how the builds are going to intermingle in a match.
Utilities need to be locked as well – they are utility, utilitarian. They are meant to either cover your weaknesses or expand on the abilities you want to take the most advantage of. Being able to do both, at all times, throughout the entire team build is not competitive at all – it’s extreme build wars.
Some may say “But Bear, that just means that you are going to limit the number of viable builds/team builds/strategies/pigeon holes!!!!oneone11!” No, it’s going to expand the competitiveness of the game, because it’s a TEAM game. At present and previously, there was no onus to be a synergistic team aside from a rough outline of the positions you wanted people to fill, now things can finally start getting more specific, more complex, more team oriented, and by extension more competitive. At the moment, being able to build wars mean you don’t have to be as team focused and is, by extension, less competitive.
This post makes me cry on the inside.
I can see why they would do this. But tbh, this should be way lower in priority compared to things that need to be changed pronto. (ie, scrap the stupid tournament format, have a ranked solo/team queue, new map/game types, etc.)
Everything should be locked.
Pretty simple, as to why.
Utility swapping seems fairly naturally balanced, because you have to wait for the other utility to come off cooldown before you can swap. The one exception are signet utilities with passives that apply out of combat (specifically, speed signets). If you pop one of these in, they should probably start on cooldown, otherwise you can just constantly pop in the signet for the passive between fights to improve mobility, which I assume the lock-down changes were partly designed to prevent.
