pvp with friend on a different server
Sorry, I’m pretty sure China, EU, and NA can’t play together in any format. However, players from different servers in the same region can play together.
Oh well, looks like I might be getting a world transfer
It’s a big weird actually. Anet (and a lot of people on the forums) are always complaining about “splitting the PvP population”, and how there aren’t enough players etc etc. Seems like allowing geographic regions to play with each other would be perfectly ideal. It would double the population at one stroke (triple if you include China).
There’s no need for them to be in the mists together or anything, just let them fight in the same arena. I don’t see how that would use up any significant resources since you’re not transferring anything over – just standard PvP buillds.

I don’t think you understand how the system works.
Every arena is going to be based in either EU or NA. If they mixed the arenas, then this would create a significant disadvantage for people playing in the opposing region since they would all suffer from a higher ping.

Actually I live in the US and play on an EU server (historical reasons and I’m too cheap to transfer!) . I’ve been PvP’ing from the start and don’t really face any ping issues.

Great for you. I do, and I am from the EU and have a spare NA account. On my best days my lowest ping on NA is 200+.
The ping would be too much of an issue for competitive.
They could however allow cross region play in hotjoins for the giggles, it wouldn’t really matter.
EDIT: and Custom Arenas ofc
GW1 allowed pvp cross regions. I don’t see why gw2 couldn’t.

While you might not have any issues at all, there are tons of people who would. I don’t really have a big problem playing on NA when being from EU, but I can tell there is a difference between my ping. On EU I usually get 0-30 ping, but on NA it can range from 100 to several hundreds on bad days.
