is this confirmed ? is this true?? exactly 55? why some says 54?
and what happens to r40’s? they be come pheonix? r30s become shark and r20s become bear? so confusing
Everyone below rank 39 stays the same rank.
Every rank up after 39 takes 20k rank points
Rank 55 becomes 80, rank 50 ~70, rank 45 ~55, rank 40 still rank 40
Just doing quick math… the changes only affect players from rank 39 (and you have to be at least 20k into 39) and above, anyone below that doesn’t change…
The change to rank gain is happening at rank 39, once you hit rank 39, all ranks after that are reduced to 20k rank points per level.
Here’s how it works out:
tigers become bears just before rank 44
tigers become sharks just a bit after rank 48
bears become phoenixes a bit after rank 51
bears become dragons just before rank 54
pretty sure that’s right, my math could be completely off… that’s not an uncommon occurrence.
thanks so much ! this helps alot and not confused anymore
devs didnt specify the math but like other players concluded that mid 54+ will be dragon ect. rank 39 below will stay the same.

Yes, they did.
39-55 will be linear 39-80 (I don’t have the quote though).
Don’t worry, all casuals are gonna be fake high rank dragons after this patch and in the next months.

Technically everyone is going to be a fake Dragon if you want to put it that way considering nobody has reached that goal in the current system.

That’s why i never aimed at dragon, i just wanted to have phoenix (r12 while dragon was at max rank 15, only like 7-8 ppl got it in 7 years) like i had in gw1 (Took me 3+ years there btw, and there were no kids whining because it was too long)…gw2 dragon was just too far and not reasonably reachable for the dedication i put into the game…others more dedicated players were maybe going to get it. And now everyone is getting dragons hurray…and i’m almost r69…1 rank from my goal since start and every scrub is gonna get the same i worked hard since day 1 with more than 5k total tpvp matches and around 10k+ pvp (And i already were 56-57 before sh got implemented, for those going to “sh farmer and kitten like that”, sorry but i didn’t get my rank on sh and i’m still getting screwed by this kittened patch, while many many many others who ONLY farmed straight from r10 to 50 are getting rewarded) Funny uh? Not
Time to quit i guess, like many others are already going to do after this kitten gets real….thought this was another kind of company but i should have known this was gonna be a fail game since noone of those are from old gw1, and they don’t give a single kitten to the most loyal players they have…so yeah…FO

Personally I think it’s silly to quit over a banner, while it’s nice to get access to new ones (and Phoenix is beautiful), it’s not the be all and end all of the pvp game for me. I do agree that the removal of long-term goals is a little mind-boggling.
I do think those who have made the hard grind to r70 through tournaments (not SH farming) do deserve something that doesn’t negate all of the time and dedication it has taken them to reach that rank.
No, not “everyone” is getting a Dragon banner, yes it will certainly be a lot easier to achieve. Not everyone farmed Skyhammer either which is where a lot of people like yourself seem to have it twisted.

50 is pretty much everyone in pvp right now, can’t even be considered high rank anymore….one year ago it was (That’s why most sh farmers stopped at 50, bear was still not so common plus going for r60 from low ranks only farming sh would have been impossible anyway) now it’s just a bit above average..and with actual rewards it’s a joke to get too, with this second account i could go from r10 to r80 in less than 5 months after this nonsense reworking, 5 months for endgame rank and they still call it a long time goal…rofl

I do like the rank change…but at the same time, I really don’t like it. It is a little unfair to the higher ranked players who’ve worked for it honestly. But the rank-point boosts from 45 or whatever to 80 seems excessive to me. r55 jumping up to 80 is ridiculous. (If I’m understanding that correctly)
Here’s what Im thinking. Instead of the 20k rank points required per level after R39, once you hit r40, it should start with 20k points and 40-49 would all be 20k. 50-59 might be 30k or 40k pts. 60-70 would be 55k points then maybe 70-80 would be 75k-100k points, which may seem a lot still, but its not like 750k or 8million total rank points…
r80 should still be a challenge to get, but not this easy… what do u guys think?
OR what if the 20k ranks per level remained, but once you hit 80, your rank was reset to 1 and you’d be given rank titles like in WvW. So then you’d be Bronze Rabbit, bronze Deer, Bronze Dolyak…etc then Silver, Gold, Platinum, Mithril and Diamond. And once you went through r80, you’d be an Ascended Bronze, Ascended Silver, Ascended Gold, Ascended Platinum, Ascended Mithril and Ascended Diamond rank.

I suggest you read the numerous threads on the matter, similar solutions have been offered. The fact is that it took 2 years to the most dedicated players to reach r70, and that is only 30% of r80 so you understand there was an issue.
ArenaNet wants r80 to be accessible, I doubt we can make them change their mind about the amount of rank points necessary. What we can do is offer suggestions to keep a sense of progression in PvP after r80.

Sense of progression? Why should that be needed for pvp?? Progression has nothing to do with engaging in combat with others, the only progression pvp needs is the individual getting better at the game, realizing their strengths and weaknesses in relation to their competition.
The only thing the ranking system does at this time is:
None of the two are relative to a individual being skilled at the game or not. One cheated and one has more time to put into the game than another person. Both circumstances are irrelevant when it comes to pvp.

Because people like to have goals to work for, it’s the same reason why people like to unlock titles and others are achievement hunters, it just happens that they want it to be a part of PvP and why not?
I would like if your rank was like your skill.
Tiers of 10 could be leagues of sorts, each integer just being a position in that league. Then no farmer gets special stuff.
I cant understand the r60-70s anyway. Simply put, they play too much and aren’t the majority of gw2.

Because people like to have goals to work for, it’s the same reason why people like to unlock titles and others are achievement hunters, it just happens that they want it to be a part of PvP and why not?
Because all of them are irrelevant and are byproducts of players with a pve mindset who come to pvp. Because for them achievements, titles and other unlocks give a sense of self entitlement. All of which have nothing to do with pvp. Essentially you are asking for the wrong type of progression because you do not grasp the nature of what it is to be able to progress in a pvp setting.
A example of a pvp style progression would be Hall of Heroes from gw1. You fought your way up a ladder until you reached the final rung. The measurement of ones progression comes in form of how far you made it up the rung. If you failed to get past round 1 of the tournament then one understands they and their team have work to do.
If they make it to round two, they understand that they have gotten a lot better since they can no consistently make it to the second round. If they make it to the final round but lose they now know they have what it takes to possibly win the entire hoh. If one beats a popular team who constantly wins the tournament then they will know they have come a long way.
Pvp should be about the measurement of ones skill, communication, synergy and the ability to work as a responsible team mate with others. Not a repetitive grinding of numerical elements.

This is a PvP game within an MMO. Keep that in mind. If you just want pure PvP, it would be better to play a MOBA instead. An MMO’s halmark is nice heavy grind with lots of time put into it. Sure, reward skill if you want no one is stopping you.
But also have progression based on other parameters. Since the latter does not affect the former in any way, I fail to see the downside.

What you are saying makes more sense for wvw since its directly related to pve. With Spvp it makes little sense.

Then why did some people say, like Grouch, that pvp rank is like pve rank? then we should not get our rank points removed after r55. It is a real punish to the loyal playerbase that has been holding this pvp so far 2 years.

The real punishment is when they did not ban the players from exploiting skyhammer to earn rank.

nope not really people actually cared about ranks in gw1, when people made teams they usually ask you to be of a certain rank.

By all means have those titles as well. Why can’t we have both. Here is one side asking for a feature that doesn’t affect the other. And the other teams is actively opposed to a feature that makes no difference to them.
