a few questions before I try to answer this cute question.
Firstly, did you even read the patch notes?
Secondly, do you even know the skills they changed? Because if yes, then you would know that there’s no difference whatsoever. Maybe 1 signet is more viable now (wild)
Thirdly, in any decent tournament group line up, ranger brings nothing unique or important, except for a 15sec water field. Other than that he just does everything on a weak/average level.

Read the kittening patch notes.
The buff was 10% more life on felines and a few seconds off a not too popular CD that only works with jaguar pets.

And no, rangers aren’t even CLOSE to what eles were.
Eles were an all around amazing class, rangers are still very limited to small scale skirmishing and by janky pet AI.

“New” Rangers have been trolling game since January or maybe it was December can not recall which.
With ele toned down and Ranger slightly improved. People are likely just flipping out of immediate response to patch notes.

Sigh, beast master traited signet rangers have always been extremely powerful duelists for God knows how long. It’s just that everybody has been riding the condi-train for rangers that nobody realized the hidden potential until now, when ArenaNet points a giant fat finger: “Hey everyone! We buffed signets and pets! Use them!”

I’ve known this because we have Vinhoney, the obnoxiously good ranger on team DTC who has been running this spec since the beginning of time. When we were active, we were beating PZ, Paradigm, JBUO, etc with this spec. And now his favorite build just got better with this patch… Sigh.

If you ever reach the high-competitive scene in here, you will see that the BM-ranger absolutely never loose a 1v1. If so, he just played bad. (The position of the ranger in the teamfight is a different story)

It’s pretty clear that they went way overboard buffing pets. They should not have that much survivability and damage 1 on 1 in PvP.

However, it all stems from Anet having such poor AI programming, as well as PvE weaknesses corrupting PvP.

Few people realized the potential of pets in PvP because the AI was worse than WoW 1.0.

Buffing pets was a lazy solution. It dumbs down the game and lowers the skill required to play rangers.

It also corrupts other professions playing against the Ranger. Your primary goal is to exploit the poor AI and keep the pet from following you versus a true test of ability usage.

At least with spectator mode now, you can watch how much a BM ranger can do just sitting afk while the pet does all the work. It’s pretty comical when compared to any other profession.

The signet changes are why people are playing more BM builds than before, and they’re doing the same damage as they’ve been doing for a long time, they’re just doing it more often because of the CD reductions.

In groups Rangers are subpar but effective. Solo they are gods walking amongst us with their shiny weapons and armor and pets with magnificent skin & fur; teasing us endlessly about how awesome they are at killing us without even trying because they were handed all these godly abilities that we have no way to deal with because we are mere mortals that die horribly every time we oppose them.

OH SO NOW PEOPLE ARE GETTING IT?

During the whole D/D ele hate I was all like “but rangers are just as bad… Maybe less mobility and much less spike, but still really strong! There’s not much to doge, they heal to full, plus their heal makes it hard to burst during the heal, and doge spam burst. Then go pew pew pew for days with arrows”

And I go unheard and now they are buffed more and your seeing them pretty much uber harass any solo point.

Saw this coming.

So no QQ! hope they stay OP. Now I’m going to run phantasm mesmer a 1v1 easy win (and also the only build of the characters I play that counter it.) just like BM and go around acting like it takes skill.


Joking aside yeah they are a little strong. They always have been. I don’t think games are going to seriously run 3+ rangers since they are not that good team fight. But it pretty much forces teams to counter play based on where BM roams.

If you have one guy on home and a ranger comes more often than not they will push the other guy off point without back up. <- this takes some of the 1v1 skill out of the game giving into more rock, paper, scissor builds. Which for a skill based game is a problem.

They were always like that, now even better, people was just too busy crying about eles. But they are actually way better than eles, lots of dodges, regen and protection high uptime, higher damage than what a d/d bunker ele can pull. AND THEY ARE EASY TO PLAY, they just send their pet, doing nothing, and spam 1 while using other dodge skills and the enemy dies. While eles have to time everything and aim manually to land a skill.

First off, as it has been a discussion in the past; on the typical ranger BM build, shortbow is a subpar damage weapon. If anybody would like to dispute that, then their view on it immediately becomes less solid. There is a clearly better setup than that.
The only time this would change is if somebody were to run a power variant, which then would bring up the question of why since a Shamans amulet is a stronger bunker choice and conditions can do higher damage than sustained power.

Next off, please, somebody explain what builds have changed for ranger SINCE LAUNCH? The two viable builds at launch are still the two most viable builds. Not even effectiveness has changed (the builds aren’t any more effective than they are now).

So lets put it into perspective.

If person A does damage and takes virtually none. Vs person B who is going to die in this situation unless they can sustain damage on person A vs their mitigation = person A out sustains the damage, and becomes a bunker (In the case of ranger this is a roaming bunker) that kills anything else via out sustaining all damage until they win, with little to no way round.

If you read my previous post it clearly was in reference to BM roam. I was responding with the continuity in mind.

So yes I know they had to build for it, and as such is the build people are talking about.

And just because you have to build for it doesn’t mean it’s not still a factor, and the things I mentioned were part of the same build. The “you have to build for it” points are for when people mention different parts that don’t connect.

And as stated before no you can’t just strife to avoid. So yes virtually unavoidable. <- if I am mistaken in this point I will stfu and will remember this form now on.

To early to call , however, I think rangers currently are not as strong as ele’s were. So if its an issue, its less of an issue. My concern is spirit watch and bm rangers though, havnt had that on tourney rotation so too soon to call.

I swear to god like every spvp game I go into there’s always at least 3 rangers going condition damage just spamming the autoattack and 2. Havn’t seen an actual good ranger in a while though (They’re definitely out there though, and quite annoying xD)
