remove lose streak pip bonus
nahhh
nobody wants to lose regardless of rewards.
at least this way you arent discouraged from quitting too early ;]
for season 3,
do consider to,remove lose streak pip bonus,
as it may still encourage some idiots to lose games.
discuss !
On the chart of “what did I just read?” threads..I think yours will take 1st place…
You gain 2 pips after a losing streak..and most times you have no way to control the outcome of battles meaning that the losing streak could be dozen matches or more…
And you’re saying that people would b willingly to lose up to 12 pips..in the hope of getting loser buff?…
Im not saying this is an efficient strategy, because it wont work once you hit ruby, but the lose streak does promote losing on purpose.
Bad players who just want to grind to ruby (but probably dont belong there) can purposely lose to get the lose streak and THEN attempt to progress the tier, because the lose streak allows them the buffer room to lose 1 match because of the free pip, this allows them to progress up tiers with a worse win/lose ratio than would normally be needed to go up +5 pips
…how does a losing streak promote losing on purpose?
Who in their right mind would spend the time for losing three matches, then trying to get a winning streak going when they just as well could win and get more pips in a shorter amount of time? That makes no sense whatsoever
I don’t think the bonus is good enough that anyone actually attempts to lose, but it is pointless to have. Just remove both streak bonuses.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
If you are in a win one, lose one, win one, lose one, loop, purposely getting the initial lose streak bonus makes it easier to recover from this type of scenario because even if you lose the next game after the winstreak bonus your still up +1 pip
It just increases the odds of getting enough pips to pass a tier, this isnt something i would expect most people to do, but it IS something a desperate person would try to exploit to grind up to ruby, and all it takes is that one person to ruin the day for 4 other people
Trying for losing streaks to get the pip bonus is nonsense since it makes so little sense. If you lose 2 games you lose one pip over all because that third one you win gets you one pip back you loss. If you lose 3 you gain two back so again a 1 pip loss. Losing more than that is counter intuitive because by then you want to get those 2 back for the win bonus, not wait for 15 more losses.
0 0 0 2 pips or 0 0 1 1 pips
result is +2 pips. So loosing streak is no advantage

Yes i know, this strategy doesn’t work past ruby, but in emerald/sapphire your locked into tiers, losing 3 in a row doesnt make you lose any pips at the start of the tier, if a bad player is pretty much relying on luck to grind enough wins over losses to just break one tier at a time, this strategy lets them progress tiers in burst with a suboptimal win/lose ratio
Ok, that makes sense to lose 3 games deliberately in order to gain 2 pips from a win, but if you can honestly control matches enough that you will deliberately lose, why not just win? I suppose bad players can just get lucky and win after so many losses but then they’ll just lose those two pips. Any decent player will just try to win and gain a win streak, which will progress you to the next tier much faster.
If there should be any change, the losing streak bonus should only apply in Ruby and above.
I haven’t actually used the losing streak bonus because I’m awesome and never lose I haven’t really played enough. It seems odd if it’s exploitable like that.
Why not, instead of a losing streak bonus, build it so that if you are working your way back towards a tier checkpoint you have already completed (so basically, you lost pips in Ruby or higher), you get extra pips?
If you lose a game that you would have won and win the next one you will have two pip,and if you win two games you have two pips to so you literally cant exploit this
The only way i can see the system being abused is in pre-ruby divisions. Sitting at a 0 pip tier, losing a bunch to get the 2 pip bonus, then going for win streak? So you would get 2, 1, 1, 2—-?
Seems like a waste of time…for a “guaranteed pip”

yup.
except that these idiots could be unaware that they are ruining it for others and themselves.
removing the losing streak bonus may kills off any motivation of them attempting this.
but it would be for season 3 onward, since it is probably too late to change anything in season 2.
Your logic makes sense, except for one small detail:
Teammates are chosen based on your current MMR (and your current tier and division) so if you lose an extra game or two here and there just to get the losing streak bonus, eventually this will lead you to have worse teammates than if you had just played your best every match. In contrast, your opponents are chosen ONLY based on your current tier/division (unlike season 1), so losing more games will also not change the level of competition you face.
Sure, some ppl might think it makes sense to lose on purpose to grind to ruby, but once they get to ruby (or perhaps even earlier), they will have to deal with the unintended consequences of tanking their MMR.
In short: the more games you lose, the worse your teammates are. It’s true that the losing streak bonus may help you grind to ruby, but I can assure you that this strategy is incredibly short-sighted and the ppl who do so will definitely regret their decision.
