So if you play tpvp as much as i do. You’d know being stuck in a 4v5 is not fun at all.. So my only concern is that gwsupport team, or who ever is in charge of this, can add the ‘/resign’ function like they did in gw1.. I hate being stuck in a 4v5 match and forced to stay in the match(unless I rage quit(alt+F4)).. Point is, I want the /resign function. And I know a lot of other people do as well.

The bigger issue is matchmaking, if the game had decent matchmaking we wouldn’t see 4v5 all the time.
As I said before, people in the sotg don’t play solo que so they never address stuff like this because it doesn’t affect them.
In gw1 every party member would have to resign before the match would end. If someone left the game, they would count as having resigned. I’d like the same in gw2.

The only problem with a /resign is how often it would be used.
I think it would need to operate on a “voting” system, maybe requiring at least 3 out of 5 players to choose to resign before anyone actually gets ported back to the mists.
That said, I think it would be a wonderful idea, although it might get discouraging to actually see how many matches are never in question. A dedicated solo queue would be better.

That’s exactly what we are suggesting… and 3 out of 5 is just not enough, 3 guys come in and decide that this team doesn’t fit perfectly and justresign, so everybody gets moved to the mists and the other team just won.

My tpvp team came up on this twice last night. One match was 4v5, one ended up being 3v5. We all decided to either /sit in mid or we /danced or we dueled. I like the SMITE idea, too many people queue up and either don’t show or don’t participate (afk the entire time).

All the team had to type “/resign”, then the resigning team automatically lose.
They had /resign in GW1 and it caused ZERO grief. Needs to be added. Same with a /gameend for servers before the match begins to progress the map. 2 biggest missing things when it comes to missing commands.

Resign worked just fine in guild wars 1, and I was surprised when it wasn’t implemented here in guild wars 2. Bringing it back would be a perfect solution (remember that all players on a team had to resign for the function to work and the game to end).

PS I actually tried using /resign in a PvE instance the other day and was bummed that it didn’t work. It would be great to see it in PvE instances as well as PvP.

Any team winning 4v5s either has a ridiculous class advantage over the 5 man group, or they were playing terrible people. Maybe have the /resign only become available when your team is down by 200 points or if you’re missing 1 or more members.

why the hell are you guys encouraging rage quiting… I’d rather not see my teams mates thinking about ways to jump ship at the first sight of danger…
it’s the 4v5 thats the problem.. match making needs to confirm that all the players are there and awake before they are added to the roster..
so a pop up to confirm that each player is not afk..
as it stands 4v5 before the game starts is unacceptable for any kind of rated pvp
p.s. if you sign up for tpvp, you really should be committed to play till the end.. if you want to rage quit in the middle of a TPvP match there is alway hotjoin for that..

Sets the character on fire for 20 minutes, cannot be cleansed and deals damage over time. Prevents them from entering pvp, or on entering pvp Dhumm rocks up and 1 shots him back to the pvp portal. Or Dhumm just scorpion wires him back everytime he presses join game

Never had a surrender that wasn’t justified in LoL. All you need is two people out of five to refuse.
Deserter debuff is a bad idea. PvP population is low as it is. Glory penalty I agree with, but modern companies don’t want to upset their players in any way shape or form.

For those that think /resign will encourage rage quitting, I think you’r underestimating the competitive nature of many players in PvP. It was never abused in GW1, and it gave teams with a disconnected player to quickly leave and reform.

What happens to those players who have a legitimate reason for leaving the game, such as a random disconnect? That player could be trying to log back in and his team would have assumed his not coming back, and hence throw the game.
Like others have suggested, it will also kind of promote rage quitting to a level where it will be maybe all too common. There needs to be some requirements to /resign imo:
- Other team has reached say 400 points. If your team has no chance to come back, you can put a vote up to /resign and take the lost.
- Game starts with only 4 players or less. After 2 minutes or other team reaches 300 points or something, you can /resign. If the game ends with only 4 players (if you solo queued) it should not count as a lost or affect your MMR (for the other team, a win is a win regardless whether its against 5 or 4 or less – keeping it the same as it is now).
- Majority vote wins. /resign should only be able to be used at certain intervals (400, 450 points etc) and never more then once by the same person.
- Introduce a penalty for leaving the game without resigning to avoid players who just rage quit at the slightest hint of a lost.
Also at certain times, the tpvp population is small so you might run into the same teams over and over. One team could potentially farm wins in a really fast manner by /resign. I guess it wouldn’t be too much different then what the game is currently though.
Anyway, I like this idea as long as there are some requirements for it.

I prefer solo q. Almost always find it more fun and more rewarding. I dont even mind loses heavily occasionally. But a /resign would have postives and negatives. But the negative could be this:
- People like just stop playing and say “/resign” whilst they force other players to do this by just sitting out so it is 5 on 1 against you until you give up and quit.
So I really hope Anet can think these things through and not introduce this feature.
In summary, I dont think /resign is a risk worth taking. I could be wrong though

You dont get many 4v5 since players are removed from the roster when they disconnect or log out. It really isn’t a major problem right now.

Resign is a part of e-sports. When a player knows hes lost in SC2 generally he will quit because the game is over and there is little point in dragging it out.
Yes they need this feature because of bad matchmaking GW2 has right now and the amounts of 4v5 you’ll be part of instead of raging they should just get it over with quickly.
Should be a rule if you resign within the 1st 10 seconds it doesn’t count as a loss.
I’d use that against some strong team to avoid losing 3 consecutive games to them because they shouldn’t be facing solo que in the first place.

In SC2, or any 1vs1 game, you quitting only affects you.
In any team based game, once one person wants to quit, it’s going to affect the rest of the team. That’s why in HoN/LoL/Dota2 you can’t surrender before a set amount of time, to avoid people going afk at the funtain and spamming /surrender after giving first blood in the first 2 minutes. To translate that in gw2 match time, that would mean no surrender before the 6 minute mark. But then you’ll need a tool to report afk people, and a system to punish them. Punish them hard.

while you’re at it lets make it only race to 50 points. so it will be fast and time saving.
I don’t see how it promotes rage quitting, you can already rage quit with Alt + F4.
A lot of people ‘against’ /resign are probably remembering in LoL where people concede as soon as the first tower goes down which is just silly, and that’s understandable.
The people ‘for’ /resign probably see it in a different way, from an e-sports point of view where forfeit is a basic function in any game where the requirements for a fair match are not met, and the match can be thrown to avoid wasting time.
It would depend on what your prior experience with forfeiting in games is that determines your opinion about it, but that may be the fault of those games, which leads to the idea that if a /resign feature were implemented in GW2 it would have to be done so perfect that abusing it would be almost unheard of.
The problem is that every team based game with a /resign functionality, also got a system to report afkers, and an automatic replay recording (think of all three big mobas, and sc2 as well), which make it easier to punish griefers.
In GW2, as it is now, if someone wants to surrender and the other 4 don’t, the one guy can go afk and ruin the game experience to the other team members. In LoL, you can’t, you get reported for afk, and can get suspended due to the Tribunal system.
That’s why one does not simply add a /forfeit command to a team-based game.

This is a bad idea because it encourages every team to give up if they don’t have the lead after 30 seconds.
I would also call this toxic, because then upset players who want to /resign will begin to fight with those on the team who are not resigning, and yeah.
The only form of this feature I would agree with is if it is available ONLY when there are fewer than five players on a team.
