OK so I’ve been meaning thief for a very long time and I highly enjoy the s/d game play but I feel the auto attack needs a damage buff or if there is another build that isn’t just steal dependent with the same servive with a bit more damage? I’m not a huge fan of d/p game play but I feel is becoming my only real option for the damage and movement. But all in all does anyone know a strong s/d build that isn’t so steak dependent?

The 26060 S/D build does plenty of damage. Asking for buffs to Thief auto-attacks is pretty scary lol

This might get more constructive feedback if you reposted it in the Thief Forums. But I agree auto attack on Sword is lackluster, considering if the payout of getting off the whole AA chain is NOT worth the risk you put yourself in by losing that much time of mobility attacks and dodging.

sd got plenty of dmg, the reason why it does not as much dmg as let’s say common dagger/x builds is because most sd go trickery/acro and spam evades thus losing dmg for survival duhh

topic aside, i hardly doubt there will be any major balancing changes considering specializations are comming out and traits/stats are getting reworked…

I use 2/6/0/0/6 S/D and the damage is fine. I do agree though that there is not enough reward in completing a full auto attack chain given that it is very easy to dodge the last one, and it forces you to blow dodges or trade blows to complete it since evading with flanking strike or escaping something nasty momentarily with infiltrator’s return resets the chain.

The first swing of the chain is the strongest, owing to a very short animation, while the last swing of the chain is slow without commiserate damage. Weaving the first and occasionally the second swing of the chain between uses Flanking / Larcenous maximizes your damage.

It’s really tricky to use though, the first swing of the sword has a really long natural global cooldown that gets truncated if you continue the chain, so to weave attacks you need to hit the first swing, then start the second, but immediately cancel it with a Flanking / Larcenous strike – otherwise you’ll be stuck effectively stunned while the first swing finishes its extra long animation.

I don’t understand how anyone can play without 6 in trickery, that just seems so bad.
