There’s a problem with this. 1v1 in this game is not balanced at all. Two builds will rise above all others: Mesmer condi build, and d/d ele. These are the two best 1v1 builds in the game, and most builds don’t even come close to killing them.
Yeah the game isn’t balanced at all for it, but my ranger actually has beat every d/d ele I’ve seen. S/d is a bit more challanging since they ironically out ranged dps me by a wee bit.
Condi mesmers are annoying, one of the few people I’ve gone under 1:1 against played a sword-torch/staff condi mesmer, an utter pain to fight, I had to land a well timed pet CC or lose after constantly beating up his phantasms with traps/pet… if the fight has to be on BO they lose a good deal of their advantage though since they can’t kite near as far away.

Rangers are exceptional at 1v1s, it just doesn’t translate over too well into tournies since their survivability is based on dodging (worse as fights get larger) and, at least in my case, protect me (pet eats all your dmg for 6~ seconds) which is also worse as fights get larger since the pet only has so much health… that combined with mediocre synergy with others just isn’t worthwhile.

Btw, I met an amazing warrior. She was rank 40+, used greatsword and sword/shield. First time I actually lost a fight against a warrior wtih my mesmer. Not sure if she was lucky or I just kittened up, that’s why I’d love to do a few duels against that warrior. Sadly I didn’t add her to my flist >_>

I would propose if certain sustain classes were banned (aka ele, guard) this may have a chance to work out.
The only reason 1v1 tournies work in League is because tank/supports are actually killable over a long period of time. In this game its less about mitigation and more about infinite sustain (which adds the element of “skillful” tanking dodging, condi removing, etc… rather than just stat mitigation).
Well its a good thing my ability to have fun is not based on another person’s viewpoints. Also, id rather not restrict what a player chooses to play as we all have the option of picking our opponants right now

If need be, in tournaments, we could establish rules for first to cap the point or first to be knocked out after x amount of time. These are subject to change depending on how the players feel when we establish rules for it.
So basicly the roster created will show the times and zones when people are available to be psted in game for some pvp matches from other members ya? Good. and please keep updating list I am on and off randomley so if I have an itch for few rounds I can look it up. Thanks guys great thread/idea. I should be on round 10ish tonight.
Yus. Ive done it before. Ill try to upload the vid when i get off cq duty in my barracks tomorrow. Right now im sitting at a desk using my phone to reply lol. Btw anyone saying no… please lets 1v1 with your ele bunker. Its the hardest for me but i do it 40% of the time.
And yes, its looks like some classes do have an edge on others but it can be handled.
here simply what rulez we are using for our tournament format
1) All stacking sigils are out of dueling
2) no elites
3) duel end by sucessfull finishing of oponent
4) duel limit is set to 3 minutes. If for some reasons noone died – then in additional 2 min of fight healing skill can´t be used !. This pretty much make sure some builds can´t survive. as you simply need from time to time your healskill and regen is not enough.
and it worked quite well. One of longest games was necro vs ele and it took quite time but if they can´t use their heal skill, its going to the point whre one of them will fall.
Also i have seen some duels where rangers had very easy job against those elementalist, and some egnineers killed guardians so quickly.. that they event didnt realized what killed them.
So infinite duels are of course possible, but can be dealt with. From what i have seen so far, good duel class are Rangers and necromancers.
Ill be on a about an hour or so after my availability tonight. I was on a bit last night and got some duels in with conspiracy.

I think a properly specced Thief can destroy those two. And Guardian may outlast them all. But yes, 1v1 in this game is not very balanced.
Community cries out for duel while Anet put more conquest maps in the game..If GW2 has a chance to become esport is through duel for sure.They made a huge mistake with their decision to stick to the conquest pvp.
And they are not willing to change their plans in what the community says..
But no,they are doing things in the way THEY think is better,well im pretty sure THEY will have much fun in the end

The absolute best way for people to evolve against certain builds is to throw themselves at it and test in a controlled environment. I’d even go as far as saying dueling with a support build can be a good learning experience, with repeated attempts at surviving as long as possible/learning to avoid burst rotations/etc.
Regardless of whether or not the game’s balanced for 1v1 encounters in a competitive level, this sort of exercise is healthy, in my opinion.

Nice Ele tOss. That stability kills me in the end. Usually I spam #1 into fear into poison into rez. With 50% dmg increase on down it works alot. You negate it. Grrrr… Imma work on circumventing you sir

If you are Eu or Us please post the info. Im going to make a roster through Excel and need as much info as possible so we can atleast 1v1 eachother until we get a tourney set up
It doesnt matter whether classes/builds are balanced or not. Since anyone can just make a PvP character and choose any class.
Maybe after 3 months of dueling and we really discover that there is 1 or 2 builds that rule over everything else, then we can declare that 1v1 is imba and broken.
But at the moment, we’re still at the “discovery” phase of the balance, and I’m pretty sure the 1v1 game is not “solved” yet.
Moving forward, tournament rules can be adjusted to give more enjoyable matches. I’ve seen this happen in other games where people duel even though the game is not designed for it (eg. Demons Souls), and generally it works ok.
Looking forwards to what happens in this scene, hope you guys can develop it further.
