I am going to try and get right to the point here. Some of you know, or may not know, that there is very little ways to spend our 100s of thousands or so millions of glory on.
I am going to also say there isn’t very much ways for sPvPers get glory.
What to spend it on :
More ways to get it
Overall
I know there are more pressing issues at the moment with Gw2, but saying this wouldn’t be one of them is borderline ridiculous. Solo queue has it’s problems, the leaderboard, custom arenas/spectator are still in beta, all that is important.
Rewards are a great way to incentivize new players to keep playing. And I feel it is just as important to get it fixed/redesigned, or add some of these (the daily glory couldn’t be that much of a hassle).
EDIT

This is a discussion to find more ways to spend our glory in sPvP.

Whole heartily agree that we should have more options to obtain Rank in a quicker pace ie: Purchasing Rank with Glory Points.
There also needs to be more options of items/accessories. At the current state, its a Grind fest. The amount of Glory we accumulate each match is a very tiny fraction towards our rank. Talk about ball busting Anet.
-Monthys and Dailies should give us a % of our current rank as Glory towards are Rank.
-Offer more Glory per match as Rank progresses.
-Glory Boosters do NOTHING for our Rank Progression – could be fixed.
-Give us other ways to obtain Rank?
Ideas to ponder on…

I am glad you agree. With the glory booster I was thinking it could be away for someone to get glory faster to spend it quicker. Somewhat like a karma booster. If it did give rank points that would be great.
Percentages would work great for the daily/monthly. Say 10% or 15% for the daily, and 25% or 30% for the monthly?
bump for clarity
While i would agree that pvp needs more ways to use glory, I cannot agree with spending glory for rank, especially at a 1:1 ratio…like you said, people have millions.

Alright so not to a 1:1 ratio. However the players that have millions of glory just either want ways to dump their glory, or want a way to use it usefully in sPvP. As well they are rank 50+ I would imagine. So at higher ranks (the vendors) it can cost more glory to purchase rank points.
At r50 say, 150k glory for 50-75k rank points. So basically a 2:1 ratio. And do the same for lower ranks.
I Would like them to normalize the glory gain across the team, so everyone in the team get same glory.
Perhaps so you get same glory as the match point, winner 500 and loser whatever score they had.
Think that could also cause lot more players to try win

I believe this is something that could be help with an increase with the win bonus. If the win bonus was was a lot more (hot-join) it would entice players into winning.
The bonus could be a higher percentage of your personal glory, like 30% or so.

no. rank points should never be purchasable. pay to win? no thanks. this would completely negate the purpose of rank and make it even more of a joke than it is now.
earn

First of All, I don’t think you have a clue about the discussion at hand here. You can not purchase Glory…. so what are you talking about it being a joke?
Glory is only earned PvPing. At the moment, there is little we can buy and Glory Points is just piling up. Why not use the EARNED Glory Points to purchase towards the Current Rank.
1:1 Ratio is fine. Nobody has Millions, that I guarantee. If they did They are Rank 60 by then each rank is at 150,000 per level, yes fun? What people don’t realize. Each Rank Tier expands far drastically as it progress. ie, Rank 19-38s reacquires 7500 for each Level where as 39-48 require 45000.
Until you understand the current state of the Rank System and how Glory is acquired, your input is invalid.
I believe the Devs realize this is becoming an issue and a boredom for many. We need more options, more incentive…. GIVE US SOMETHING worth our time then what we have atm.
I never said glory was purchasable.
I said purchasing rank for glory is a horrible idea.
you will not convince me otherwise.
why not just offer double glory?
in what system would it ever be balanced for people to just buy their ranks – with in game currency or otherwise?
what would be the point of the rank system if it is material, commercial, and artificial?
who the kitten are you to tell me I don’t understand the rank d glory system because i disagree with tour kitten carebear give me free advancement system?
earn.
your.
rank.
don’t buy it.
purchasing ranks will inflate the already gross disparity between people who farm rank in horjoin vs people who earn it in tpvp.
until you understand that, this idea remains kitten.
I never knew “paying” for your rank won you games in pvp lol? I don’t give a kitten if you’re rank 50 or rank 60, all it means is you played more pvp. I’ve had rank 10-20 teammates play better than rank 50’s. I’ve got rank 40 friends that just cant get into top 1000 since they just can’t get past their skill ceiling.
I agree there needs to be more things to buy with your glory, some form of profitable currency that can be converted into gems (do not say unidentified dyes are profitable).

I am not really sure if you understand. I thought you might have but you definitely don’t. This post is about trying to figure out ways for players that have excess glory like hundreds of thousands or (like I previously said) millions to spend it.
You don’t like the rank point idea I get it. It would not create that much of a disparity because it would be available to all players of all ranks. If you want to save your glory then save your glory. If you would rather purchase items it at your glory vendor then do that.
And how is it pay to win when the ranks are completely aesthetic for items, that do not effect how good someone is or “better” they play?
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
What don’t I get?
more ways to spend glory = good (I said that in my post)
spending glory for rank = bad.
just because I disagree with you does not mean that I do not understand what you are saying.
what part of that don’t you understand?
what makes you so righteous as to assume what I do or do not understand?

Like I said this is a discussion. I never said anything to make it look as I were self righteous. Can you explain why you think it is “bad”? If you can’t then you are not helping anyone.
I will repeat myself, ranks are completely aesthetic, and mean nothing in terms of skill. Why not redesign the glory system, and how rank works.
I does not bother me you disagree. It bothers me you have nothing constructive to say.

The OP’s proposition is to sell rank points for glory, not mine. I never once claimed you could buy glory.

Indeed, and it still is.
Rank and Glory, as they function in the game right now are a reward/representation system.
You receive Glory as a form of currency to purchase items needed to assemble gear and consumables in the Forge. We all already agree that there ought to be more things to spend Glory on …
You already have rank points for completing matches, which is the representative portion of your earnings. Rank points are nothing more than experience points.
Like you both have said, they just represent time spent playing. Well, ya, no kitten…but…
People argue that Rank is not a real measure of skill. So what? Who cares? Rank is already a measure of time spent in game.
So …
Spending your Glory to increase your Rank inflates (in a negative fashion) the representation of your time spent playing SPvP, and therefore provides even more misinformation to potential tournament team mates than what it already does, given the complaints that people can farm Hotjoin for days and gain no practical experience.
Yet…
Despite the lack of practical coordinated teamplay experience, Rank undeniably proves that a player has logged the hours to have accumulated their current Rank, and therefore said player is (at least hopefully) not a completely useless ball and chain for a group to have to carry.
Why on Tyria would you want to allow players to further exacerbate this issue by funneling PvP currency and further disenfranchise their actual representative skill level and make it even more difficult to judge how best to integrate a player in to your team?
Sure…
Competitive teams will have practices and try-outs and the whole shebang.
But…
SoloQ (which is never going away, whether you like it or not) will suffer even more imbalance in its matchmaking system and create even more reasons for people to complain about kittens hiding in wolf’s clothing.
(that is a metaphor).
Which means that, in effect, spending Glory for Rank is a “pay to win” system because you can pay for “wins” that you never “played”.
I seriously cannot believe I had to spell that out for you.

Precisely, there are myriad possibilities that could be implemented as a way to spend glory that don’t involve buying your way to Dragon.

I read this as your interpretation of pay to win as someone paying for wins that are non-existent. Pay to win is defined by buying something that will better your character/player/profile/etc. and making you win more. It is a game design model that is highly frowned upon.
Exact definition -
Games that let you buy better gear or allow you to make better items then everyone else at a faster rate and then makes the game largely unbalanced even for people who have skill in the game without paying. Luckily in Gw2, all gear is equal, and are only skins.
ANYWAYS, I am glad you posted something constructive, and we can just move past rank points. What do you think about just dumping glory for skins? Skins that were in the gem store perhaps? Even allowing players to pay, idk 200k for a full set of Flame Legion, instead of having to RNG get it in the forge.
That price can go up for how Anet thinks of the aesthetics of the skins. Also (I know they said it is hard for them to release new armor sets) how about them release more weapons and, items like Fused Gauntlets available for glory? Thoughts?
(edited by EoNxBoNx.9213)
The point is that being able to buy rank for glory would make the game pay to win.
Buying rank is, by your definition, an improvement of player profile.
Everything I post is constructive, it is not my responsibility to interpret it for you.
Now…
There is plenty of reason to expect that Glory will be adapted to allow the purchase of Gems for a PvP centric Gem store, wherein new skins/finishers/boosters/whathaveyou could be made available to pvpers.
Glory does not have to be anything more complicated than gold. Given the high frequency of glory earnings, expect the ration of glory:gems to be much more steep than gold:gems, and there is no reason not to offer an option to purchasers of Gems via creditcard/paypal/whatever to convert their Gems in to Glory (assuming that something appealing is actually offered at Glory Vendors that is unique from the Gem Store).
The rate of glory accumulation would then be monitored and tweaked not to make the system useless again.

I would expect something like that. But what if say, it were items that were “hot items” and no longer are and got pushed out of the store. Like the Fire and Ice dyes e.g.
Also buying complete armor sets. Whispers Set e.g(for the respective rank), and trying to avoid all the RNG involved in getting skins?
I doubt they would make available for purchase items that can be combined in the Forge.
There would be more unique items in the store, and “limited offer” items like that would be stellar.
example: I am choked that i did not get a fused shield or rifle, because i am a flame thrower using engie and they would have given me mahogany every time i logged in.

If they were to make more items in the store it would be great. Not just when they have holidays, or specials. I suppose if instead they allowed items that were crafted via Forge to be sold with glory, they could make more weapons/armor sets(maybe)/gauntlets/helms/etc. to be sold for glory. Or even through the gem store.
ideally, you could purchase every piece of gear for that rank from the glory vendor, at inflated/high prices, and still be able to buy components to try your luck on the forge RNG (which would be less expensive, but no guarantee you get the piece you want)
then, the gem store would have more cosmetic looking skins that aren’t necessarily pvp oriented, as well as new boosters, and then the holiday/occasional items would appear there as well for limited times so that people with deep pockets but poor luck with the chests/forge can still pimp out their ride, so to speak.
because pvp is baselined on the amulets/runes (which I don’t think ought to be supplemented with gem items, but rather revamped/improved where they sit now), you don’t have a need for anything other than skins.
If items with stats in pvp were to become purchasable, they would have to also put a price on the runes/amulets/sigils, and this would break the easy accessibility of starting up a new character.
maybe that would be a good thing.
maybe having character specific glory/rank would be a good thing, instead of account wide renown. i’ve only ever played engie in pvp, but if i were to make a new alt, a necro for example, my rank shows that i have spent time on that necro when I clearly haven’t.
the problems with the system are much deeper.

Personally I like having the account wide glory just because I do not like having my alts looking like starter characters (even though that’s what they are). If I had the option to get a Fused Gauntlets (through glory purchase) for the thief I would do it.
If it were possible (like you said) Anet could keep the most cosmetic of looking skins in the gem store. And maybe gauntlet skins available for glory. Or through chests if they really don’t want to change the RNG aspect.
