Hey guys,
me and my friends started to play PvP, and we are getting better every day but we have a problem.
We played 4 years of GW1 pvp and we were very good at it. Now we are facing a wall and we cant pass it. Our problem is a mesmer portaling his team from one point to another, we can’t catch up with opposing team and we always end up losing because we can’t hold points for fair amount of time…i honestly think they need to change portal mechanic or get it out of sPvP
Do you guys have any good advice and ideas for us on how to beat portals, and how to counter that build.
Thx
Oh gees this… again. Hate to burst your bubble but they aren’t removing portal from pvp. They are in fact going to give it to other classes.
I have searched this topic but didn’t find anything, that’s why i created new post.
Where did you hear about Anet adding portal to new class:O?
Right….All classes should have illusions and cloak then….
It was in the twitch live stream with Devs a while back. Someone asked about dealing with “problem classes” such as bunker ele’s and portal mesmers. Dev response was
“bunker ele is on our watch list, Mesmer portal is giving us trouble looking at giving that mechanic to other classes”
@hanzlo BTW I love your signature.
Yes. First off , you can obviously run a portal and mesmer yourself to protect your own back point.
Second. A good elementalist can easily solo a mesmer most of the time. so have your ele push far point, if memser portals back alone the ele can take him and at least neut the point.
If however, they port back with several ppl, the ele can speed run out while the rest of you push mid now that they are down bodies there.
It takes really good timing and is hard to do without a team of five people. If it’s just you and your friend queueing together, and getting the rest of the team filled up by randoms, I would suggest either:
—Choosing a really good time to hit the back point together (such as, right when your three teammates are just getting to mid to start a fight), or
—Split up—whichever of you has a better duel build or can disengage easily (such as a d/d ele) go to the back point alone and “bait” out the portal use, while the other one hits mid with teammates or takes a secondary objective.
Either way, you should choose exactly when you want to put the pressure on. Portal doesn’t give the opposing team the ability to be two places at once; it just gives the ability to choose very quickly between one of two locations. Give them a tough choice.

This right here. Portal is on significant cooldown so if you can manage it within the context of the game, send one of your mobile roamers to attempt the de-cap and then just leave. You CAN attempt to engage them on point but its probably better to utilize your mobility and leave the mesmer to rot on point. Putting you at a equal or superior number advantage in a team fight elsewhere.
You can also combat this by having one of your teammates gear up for a 1v1 situation to prevent the cap at the beginning the game and force the mesmer to remain on point. Depends on the classes in your comp but a symbol offensive guardian, S/D sustain ele, or even another offensive roaming mesmer.
Rangers and eles are both way superior 1on1 fighters as well to mesmers. particularly rangers will own em, so ikittennow for sure mesmer at backpoint, send a ranger to make trouble for em, it forces them to send support or lose the point.
