A quick question about PvP gear:

Is all the gear that you can buy from glory vendors just cosmetic in nature? I have only purchased a couple chests so far and all the gear stats seem to be the same.

If this is true…what is the incentive to obtain glory? Is there something else that I can purchase?

Hmmm, I don’t really know if that’s enough incentive for me…I guess I don’t really care what my character looks like, so long as its powerful.

The pvp is skill-based, not gear-based. You will never find gear that is clearly better than what you start with.

Man I just don’t get how people have played pvp all this time in other games based on having better gear than the other person. So bad.

Arguabley, if you need good gear, it would take skill to get it (in theory).

Playing in that type of environment, the better gear / stats is the reason to play.

In this game I have yet to see anything that PvP is good for. Now don’t get me wrong, it is a balst…but there is NO point.

It’s not “good for” anything in the way you mean it. You play because you enjoy melting people’s faces and tight teamplay (in tourney guilds) bringing you to victory. If you don’t enjoy it you don’t do it. It is its own reward.

I do not disagree that it can be fun. But lets look at it like this:

If PvE content had a similar reward system…it would be pointless. I like to play with the thought that I can become more powerful from my time spent. This seems to be a common theme in most games.

I like that arenanet tried something different here, I really do. And I do have fun. I just don’t find myself thinking about PvP much at all. It just does not have the same appeal for me as PvE content in this game.

This is a great philosophy for pve because the enemy doesn’t care that you have better gear than it. However, it turns out that you do get more powerful in gw2 pvp the longer you play…

This is a big “in theory”, what typically happens is that people find the best class composition that works due to lack of testing or developer oversight, win a lot of games early while the comp is easy to play and when devs finally nerf it, it stays a strong spec and they have gear to ensure a high rating for the rest of the season.

I gave up on WoW pvp for a reason, GW2 would be perfect to me if there were raids, I’d never consider going back.
