That is truly awesome news! Thank you! And DJpenguin, I believe todays update was just a hotfix for a nasty bug I read about in another thread. He and some others were stuck in a tourney roster that wouldnt let them disband or start the actual tourney.
Does a man dare to dream? Could it be that you are going to out forth a PvP manifesto? That would truly be glorious…something that no other mmo has dared to do previously.

I’m hoping for fixes to the water map, maybe announcements about plans for more modes and maps. Seriously, the water map is horrendously imbalanced and not fun to play on. A lot of other things need work too. For example, there’s no good incentive for people to stay and finish a match, I believe this extends forward to create more problems like auto balance that people are complaining about.
You guys really should reduce the sPvP size to 5v5. Making tournaments 5v5 is essentially admitting that that is the balanced team size for the maps, so why is 8v8 even a real option? Zerging is already the superior option in sPvP because it tends to yield the most points.
Speaking of points, why is point acquisition so rigid? You could be doing something important like staying back to defend a point, and getting nothing for it. Meanwhile if you zerg and just tag enemies with a few hits you get the full point amount for the kill/defense. The points for uncapping a point should not be the same as for capping a point. It would be more efficient to simply run around uncapping points since standing there to cap the point is not an efficient use of time for getting glory points.

Yes, the lack of what would be considered in other games playing smart and defending points is really hurting the whole experience for me and I believe a lot of folks. Of course, part of that is that the sheer speed at which players can be killed right now makes defending an unintelligent decision, as it gives the other team an easy in to send 2 players your way, take the point and score the kill on you.

As the system works now there isn’t much for the non-hardcore sPvP Tournament players who can’t commit 20,30,40 hours a week in-game. Some want to do more than just Hot-Join but really can’t commit the hours and dedication needed to compete at hardcore level. I think with GW2’s focus being PvE content this is especially important.

Im looking fowarad to this. We have allready prepared our Community tournaments and it was a hudge disapointing that Custom tournaments are currently not supported in game.
There is a lot of people (and also our sponzors and partners) who are waiting to start the E-sport scene !

I dont’ understand why there is no option to play 5v5 sPVP.
It’s ok that you can play 8v8, it can be a lot of fun.
But why don’t we get an option to choose between the playercount?
My suggestion is:
Remove the server browse. Nobody needs it!
Let us choose between 5v5/8v8 + which map we want to play.
Give us an option to join friends+ join together (not in the same team, but in the same game as there is no server browse).

You are not in a place now when you can start from scratch and make up things as you want to add, sure you can do that as well… adding surprises is fun. However you already made promises we are waiting for you to keep, and they should be ready by now since you said they would come with the game.

The TPVP community could really do with these updates, many people are loosing interest waiting for any update on other features.
Game needs more pvp love for sure. I guess we cant get everything right away but try to do simple stuff. Like 5v5 randoms on same maps. DM you dont have to make whole new maps just use something from pve maps there are plenty of places that could be used for arena matches. And so on.
I’d avoid 2v2 for now as I’m unsure the game mechanics suit it all too well. 5v5 death matches and duels would be awesome though.
There’s really no reason not to add duels.

You need to check all the statements made in the Game section of your website. They’re full of them.

Preferably something more then just capture points?
GvG is coming? People say Zerg V Zerg (aka WvWvW) is for guilds but many of us prefer a structured GvG environment like in GW1.
A better PVP lobby not some silly little list of servers….
I hope that GW2 will live up to the PVP part of things as I feel the game has taken a backseat with PVP in comparison to GW1.
Patience people… goodness. Guild Wars 2 was easily one of the best MMO launches to date. So there’s a few bugs here and there. So the PvP isn’t perfect yet. At least they aren’t tossing the game out, collecting their money, and ignoring the players. Most game companies do that now, because they don’t care about the game. Instead, gw2 devs are working weekends to give us blogs to read.

Silly question, but where do these kinds of things get posted when they are put up anyways?
Jonathan, before you take any steps you should actually prove the credibility of the people complaining about something, there are so many skilless people with no mmorpg experience or that don’t put enough effort/brain/thought in pvping that constantly complain about some stuff. People like that will always exist and are best told “L2P”
ANet has been pretty sensible about buffs and nerfs. Besides, its way too early to throw out balance changes. They’ll do it once the majority of the class bugs are fixed and people are given time to play around with the classes as they are meant to be.
They saw fit to completely break pvp between beta and now.
All you see now are thieves and mesmers. Just how many ranks are people that roll those specifically to glory farm going to get before anet makes a move?
Am i good enough to complain? I got multi glad and rank1, in gw2 my team beated Paradigm, Pika, and many self called ‘’pro team’‘. Not to mention that some players in my team got to play at MLG, Blizzcon etc. So what? Am i/ we’re, good enough for your standards?

Anet should’ve delivered a game with at least two more things:
1) A rankedq for teams
2) A soloq (1-2 man) for pugs
Now, let’s do some talk about the GW2 system and the old/classic WoW system.
In WoW, they have a standard elo rating like system, the problem is that people rush for high ratings in the first week of the new season, and then proceed to sit without playing till the end of the season,or they simply stop playing when their setup/class get a nerf.
In GW2, you have a tournament system, people need to be active to qualify for the monthly tournament, at this point you could think ‘’than it’s better than WoW’’, well yes and no… it’s a grind fest, bad teams can just play all day and farm points.
In the end both systems are good and bad at the same time, maybe the best options would be to use both systems AT THE SAME TIME.
Make tournaments ranked, with a ladder, and to play in the monthly event, teams now need to be at the top of the ladder, and to have at least X qualification points, if they don’t, the team behind them takes their place.

New things i would love to see would be :
1-Adding Arenas.
2-Adding a ranking ladder for tournaments.
Jonathan, you could’ve just made it simple, we don’t need it to be two pages long, we just want you to tell us, if and when you’ll put rankeds in game.
Seems like you guys are temporizing, and that you think we didn’t notice. Also, no one likes the way you handle things, you keep it secret till the last second, it’s the single most annoying thing you can do to your community.
I want to apologize if it did look rude, but i said it with the utmost respect.
The most fun I had at Spvp was when I had the ability to play 2×2 and even 1×1 the entire map (did join game to an empty server, and only 1 person entered). The 1×1 was amasing, we both let each other take 1 point, and fought over the third – winner took this point ant held it till looser respawned, this was very fun for me, and for the mesmer that was my opponent.
So dueling must be in the game, also an mod with small amount of people (2×2 or 3×3) should be implemented, since its also very fun and rewarding to play.
