Can anyone explain why they made the hot-join 8v8 and the tourny mode 5v5. A lot of peoples complaining about certain classes (especially glass cannons) can be chalked up to the 8v8 zergfest.
If the maps were designed for 5v5 WHY THE HELL isnt the most common play mode in support of this? Do they not want sPvP to be practice for tournies? Is it purely for Glory grinding?
If it is purely to grind glory i think they should make that more clear somewhere in game, people would treat it less seriously since its kind of a joke as it is and would play tourny a lot more, which is a good thing since its where the game is most balanced.

I agree with this. 8v8 feels over-crowded in maps that are designed for 5v5 play. For those who want zergs, we have WvW- not sure why the decision was made to make sPvP 8v8.

I too wish they’d dump hot join down to 5v5. That way I could play relaxing hot join PVP without getting zerged constantly.

I don’t like doing too much tPVP because of the pressure of having to perform well, I’d rather just sit back and fight people in hot join.

I also feel that it might be a better learning experience for players looking to transition into tPvP.

I’d prefer this too. MORE options rather than cutting back. I’ve had some crappy 8v8 matches, but I’ve also had some enjoyable ones that I wouldn’t want to miss out on.

this was definitely a stupid decision. their reasoning was that ‘we dont want a new player to cripple his team, so we will make it 8v8 so the effect is less’.

instead what happens is that pretty much 80% of players in 8v8 are new/casual players, and then they get spammed down by gimmick builds and QQ on forums because they think that’s what tourney PvP is like. and the most important thing they overlooked is that NO ONE CARES IF YOU WIN OR LOSE IN 8v8 ANYWAY.

8v8 is a garbage format only useful for testing build ideas. even if I’m solo, I queue for tourney instead because

1) you get more glory, even if you rarely win
2) you get more loot when you do win
2) people are less stupid and the maps actually have correct sizing for the number of players
3) you rarely go up against 5 man teams anyway, and many of them aren’t that great

more and more people are just queuing for tourney solo or in smaller than 5 groups now that they realize tourney > 8v8 for everything

Big Concern I think 8 vs 8 is really bad now and has nothing to do with skill of gamers more of the way the run in groups around.
If you want players to learn for 5vs5 game it should be smaller group like 6 vs 6 where you have those 2vs2 situation all the time and players can adopt to this playstyle.

The hot join is now zergfest and thats what wvw should be about.
