Honestly, there isn’t really a esport game that changes its balance that much and that often like gw2 has been doing.
It is because they know it will make some of their active users quit the game. Rather, most esport game company like Riot make new content, new skill, new job or just new stuff to balance its game and to lure new users by showing attractive new stuffs, rather than nerfing or buffing current stuffs, which might make some1 get angry.
And the most problem is that balance patch seem to be done mostly by only 5% pro-gamers in this game, whom are supposed to be treated like normal user. But in fact they got treated specially by anet and anet too much listen to them. Just look at the document regarding next balance update stuffs then you know what I mean.
Just roll back everything to before the patch and make new stuffs to lure new users. Be creative and plz stop wandering for same similar balance stuffs to only satisfy your 5% people.

LoL is the perfect example balancing “balance” and “new things”. GW2 is a joke in those two areas.
MMORPGs are never balanced. Anyone can name any mmorpg (popular/known, regardless of pvp or pve) and people will state classes/professions and certain builds that have been powerful or overpowered since that games release.
People just kitten because there is nothing else to do once you complete your dailies and do some sPvp or WvWvW roaming.

I can name many mmo company who make effort in balance their game and make effort to work with their players to fix and improve their games.
Guild Wars 2 is 3 years old: same problems than, same problems now. Where is effort?

Huh? Are you serious or joking. GW2 is one of the slowest to change balance. Prior to the recent update, nothing much had changed in the prior year.
If this is a troll post, well done. If you are serious, I don’t know what to say.
Did you ever play any other esport game? Because what you say doesn’t match reality.
Companies like blizzard or valve will patch way more often even though their games are more polished on release than gw2 3 years in.

They may do update lot but it doesn’t matter since the fact that at least they never showed me completely killing a build or hero or skill and etc.

In league of legends, the biggest esport game, there is a champion named Poppy who, for a long while (probably twoish years), has been kept intentionally underpowered by Riot because she is a balancing mess and they don’t want her to be played. They have stated that if she is played competitively it means she needs to be nerfed again.
There is something called “Olafing” after the character Olaf, which is when a champion is essentially gutted because Riot decided they were unbalanceable.
They have a balance patch that can majorly change the metagame every two weeks (introducing Cinderhulk converted the assassin meta into a tank meta overnight).
Their new jungle system made pretty much every AP jungler unviable and has also killed nearly every ranged jungler off.
Tell me more about how Riot doesn’t make drastic changes.
Burning damage is kittening ridiculous so what does Anet do? Nerf chill. kittening beautiful. Good job Anet. Demonstrating bias since 2012. Slow clap

Pfff …. casual game ….
>_>
Real men play Smite !
Mostly cause they are seduced by that enchantress male Freya !
The only part about cowardice/sucky LoL is doing somewhat alreight , is that they offering jobs to some crab-y guys at this perid of time , so their community cannot ‘’truly hate them’’ ever

I would say Riot is better suited for balancing because they are willing to make drastic changes. Sometimes, they like what they see from the upheaval. other times, they notice weak points or unintended consequences and try to alter them, or even roll it back.
The patch two weeks ago for GW2 was the most ambitious set of changes the game has seen since launch, which in and of itself is not a bad thing. But if this is their follow-up…I’m really not impressed. Bug fixes, fine, but the nerfs that came are all out of left field and make no sense.
GW2 has less balance updates and it’s still an incredibly balanced game. Well, that was the case with prepatch anyways. We’ll get a balance patch soon, it’s not like it’s going to take a year to happen.
Let’s not forget about the specialization tree. Unlike the community, Devs have that to considered in their equation. I would imagine specialization tree is a tad OP just so they don’t risk it being underpowered and useless come HoT.

Here is something very interesting to read. “Quote”
“Guild Wars 2: The eSports Dream and the sPvP Tragedy”
“However, the sPvP, one of the three layers of the game, seems to have failed compared to the other two. Empty promises and poor updating of sPvP is mostly the cause of this failure”.
“Guild Wars 2 was released in late August and the ambition to reach eSports was never a secret, Arena Net was always clear on the matter as the systems designer, Jonathan Sharp, stated on October 2012: “We talk about eSport matches while we’re at lunch. We think about how to best get new players into the game, while also making sure professional players have a way to grow their fame. We think about the best way to show high-level matches to the masses. Really…we just think a lot about eSports. Not just for GW2, but we think about growing eSports around the world.”
“Half a year after the game’s launch, facts indicate that the eSports concept is far away from being achieved; in fact the structural player-versus-player (sPvP) system in Guild Wars 2 has been slowly decaying. Innumerous debates and discussions about the currently sPvP system, traduces the discontentment of PvP players, who demand a more competitive structure and further content for this gameplay style. The inactivity and retirement of professional teams, such as Team Curse and Team Paradigm, indicates another symptom of the system’s insubstantiality and its urgent need to be reviewed”.
“Was ArenaNet shouting sweet candy words into the frenetic player’s ears, whose expectation in Guild Wars 2 was extremely high? At least, the propaganda effect seems to have worked, after all the eSports association is a trait of honor for any video game”.
“There are essentially six response points to this query, based on public opinion through forums and social networks, which I have organized by sections”.
1. Repetitive Match Making System
“The system has a pre-defined order in the map’s selection. On the tournament field, there are three available maps with the same organization preset: Forest of Niflhel > Legacy of the Foefire > Battle of Kyhlo. In the hot join, you can choose from five different maps, adding Raid on the Capricorn and Temple of the Silent Storm to the previous three maps. It doesn’t matter which map you decide to join first, the order will never change. This means if you don’t win the first tournament round, you’ll rarely experience the following two maps, unless you go to the 8v8 hot join”.
2. Static PVP Mode
“The only existent mode in the structural and tournament PvP is the point capture. How exciting, right? As stated previously, there are five different maps but the mission remains the same for all of them – holding spots as long as possible. Note that strategies may vary from map to map due to the environmental characteristics and casual features such as the sharks in the Raid on the Capricorn and the spawning runes in the Temple of the Silent Storm. Anyway, seems a new mode will be available soon but in my opinion, it’s bad enough to have one single pvp mode for more than 5 months”.
3. Poor Update Content for PVP
“Updates are frequent and abundant on GW2 but most of the content is destined to the PVE and WvW sphere. Most PVP content consist of minor adjustments and fixes to balance professions and generate a more fair combat system. The game is composed by three main layers PvE, WvW and sPvP – I understand that Arena Net prefers to satisfy the majority, which are pvers but placing other gamers at different levels is simply unprofessional”.
(edited by DarkSyze.8627)
4. A Meaningful Competitive System?
“GW2 has a poor competitive system: the absence of tournaments and real prizes is a crucial question. The only supposed meaningful currency in the sPvP world, the tournament points, is also a curious mystery since it holds no real meaning. Even the ranking ladders are not taken seriously; they’re posted by Arena Net in the forums. Doesn’t this ranking system deserve a page in the website?”
5. The Guild System
“This is a world function that works in the three spheres of the game, however it particularly affects sPvP. How? It’s simple. You can join up to five guilds/teams simultaneously; jumping from team to team is the easiest thing to do. The sense of cohesion turns out to be extremely weak in the community – people desire to play, to form parties and join the queue and the easiest and fastest way is belonging everywhere and nowhere at the same time. If players can have many teams to rely on, they tend to devalue the meaning of having a guild, after all what will matter is having anyone to team with.”
6. eSports Promise
“The promise of going eSports is still standing but the future doesn’t look too bright for GW2, when it comes to the sPvP scene. Until now, nothing has really been done to achieve higher grounds; in fact Arena Net seems to have dropped its initial words towards the matter. Eventually, time will tell if they can, or not, deliver this promise. Nevertheless, GW2 players already know that this is merely a dream with nearly no chances to become reality”.
Honestly, there isn’t really a esport game that changes its balance that much and that often like gw2 has been doing.

Ikr? I love how people on these forums are writing grandiloquent sentences without thinking about the history of the game.
Anet decided to take a fresh start regarding traits, so of course the balance is worse now than it was. However, some issues were addressed (necro’s mobility, with the 25% movement speed with dagger, mesmer’s weakness against thieves, ranger’s brainlessness with more active traits, guardian’s lack of condi builds, etc). We are just starting to see the beginning of a meta: we know that warriors play rampage, that eles play stone heart and that thieves play d/p. Other than that, everything is still changing: mesmers change their builds every week, and engineers don’t really know where they stand. I’m glad the devs are giving themselves a bit more time before nerving stuff.

LoL. hahaha. so u are saying lol is great with balancing new things? oh so there wasnt an unkillable rek’sai disaster? and Lee Sin has been brought in line. and the new chronomancer ekko was not gamebreakingly op?they didnt overnerf elise and evelynn and then overbuffed the jungle so only lee sin was still viable in it?and then now we got the overbuff of tanks and volibear is out of control still…etc so c’mon Riot is really not good at balance patches or anything either. they make the same mistakes and yes they take really long to fix broken characters.
balance is a tough thing, as it is done on paper first and then tested by a few people, but only once it goes live u can really tell what needs balancing and what not. terrible metas and mistakes can and will happen. the gamebreaking bugs like the chaosstorm wvw bug for example will be fixed quickly whereas other things need further analizing before nerfing, fixing or buffing.

I don’t understand. I’m pretty sure the immob bug exists for a very, very long time. I bought the game in 2013 and it was there already. Not much of a history really. I’d like to see it fixed. But I was talking about the fixes they made for the new traits.
You can’t use the latest major patch as an example of continued poor balance or major paradigm shifts. This was a major change to a core game system and the shake-up it caused was unavoidable. After any major change, balance will be rough for a bit. Starcraft and Starcraft2 experienced the same issues with the release of expansions.
Where you can find fault is how blatantly obvious some problems were (burning, etc), yet the patch still went live. My guess is that this particular patch release was driven more by a schedule deadline (to enable this upcoming beta weekend, among other things) than by the “when it’s ready” philosophy. ANet is aware and will fix issues as time allows. You can’t develop, implement and test a solution to a complex problem like condition damage overnight.
So that’s all understandable and can be forgiven. However, the long term issues still remain. First, communication about balance is lacking. When there is communication, it seems to be one-way, with general player feedback seemingly ignored. And second, the balance patches are 4 to 6 months apart and either significantly overshoot or undershoot their goals, while rarely providing more variety. Iterating on changes is fine, but it needs to be done more frequently.
I have to agree with much of the populace. While many will attempt to label the complaints of others as “whining, or fussing” I find this new trait system to be counterproductive. When the new “balancing” system creates a new established weakness where a group of level 80s can no longer kill the spider in AC (A level 35 dungeon), the balance is really not done well. Not to mention many of the skills and fun aspects of playing lots of the classes has been removed. I have to say that going from a guild that was EXTREMELY active to seeing no one online after the re-trait shows how much the community approves of this change. It seems much of the guildwars community is no longer happy with the game. Disagreement is obviously fine, but please keep it productive as displaying a character unfitting of human interaction only shows how ignorant one is.
