i just think the “ele situation” is a little complicated and it has garnered a lot of hate, Cele Ele is strong and the elementalists in their respective forum has agreed on it being OP, i hate to beat a dead horse but Tempest is making a lot of us frustrated. regardless im glad a new list of “balances” will be out soon.

The problem with cele amulet is not only that it’s not very useful to other professions, but also that ele is dependent on it. If the ele is always being balanced around a single amulet, how will it ever have any kind of build diversity?

It is a sustain meta now. The only difference is that burning is broken so you don’t realize it as much. Watch what happens whenever burning is finally nerfed.

You do understand that ele is a mage right ? I’m supposed to control fire and burn (among other things) not let it sit on my wrists for show? Other classes like Guardian/Engi (and Berserker elite spec from the looks of it) can do more burning than ele already.

Celestial Amulet is the only viable build for ele and it has been since it was introduced. Why do you think everyone and their mother runs Cantrips? It’s the only viable option. When was the last time you saw anyone using Conjure Weapons in pvp? Apart from Fiery Greatsword which is exclusively used for mobility.

What about our Elites now that I mentioned it?

When was the last time anyone run Arcane skills (except Arcane Shield, Arcane Brilliance, Arcane Wave which see more use in PvE than PvP). Everyone is forced into Arcane traitline but rarely takes arcane skills in pvp.

What about Scepter/X buffs? the autoattacks are horrible.

Anet can nerf celeddele and buff other things to bring them in line. I don’t see how any of what you said goes against what Sube Dai is saying.

Also, “can do more burning,” and “can do more burning while retaining defensive attributes, mobility, and finishers,” are different things. Why do so many people pretend this is all black and white??

Do you guys keep a record of what are people using? Data is much better than whiny brats’ demands. Use your database, or if you currently don’t have data, work on a way to collect data.

Things you could collect for analysis/to help in your decision making:

*Check the win percentage of each class
*Each time a team wins or loses, record what the traits the players are using
*Record the number of times a trait is used by a winning/losing player
*Record the number of times an amulet is used by a losing/winning player
*You could even record combat data, if storage space ain’t a problem

Basically, if a player wins, each trait that the player used will tick by 1 in the trait’s “win counter”, and the same goes for when a player loses, the “lose counter” for a trait will tick by 1. This goes for all the traits of all the players in both teams of the match.

Hey there. I’ve killed d/d eles with the class you’re playing now, mesmer. And I’ve also killed d/d eles with rampage warrior at its current state. d/d eles no problem with cele signet necro. you may think this is funny but I’ve killed d/d eles with a burn guard. it’s not fiction that i’ve killed d/d eles with a ranger.

but the funnest way to kill d/d eles is with a d/d ele and the reason i’m able to kill them with the classes above is because i know how to play one. im not very good, but understanding their attunements and CDs help a lot

I’ve dueled some of the best cele ele’s in the game. The only way to win (land 2x zealot’s fire, PF, JI and work around Water cleanses, cantrip cleanses, invuln/block/dodge their Fire bursts) is to play a perfect game and for them to make a mistake.

An Ele should never lose to a Guardian. Period. The one’s you played were not very experienced.

They were prolly fotm eles. I just kept blinding and burning them after they attuned out of water. I usually don’t even bother if I know I’m going against a good ele. They’ll just waste all my CDs and run away if they didn’t kill me already.

Glad to hear this. I also really do hope it’s not all nerfs without buffs in other areas.

Are we going to see any more in depth changes or is it mostly going to be number tweaking?

I only die to burn guardian when I use drake breath or cold of cone when they are blocking, I know they tooltip for blocking says 1 stack of burning per second, there is something wrong with drake’s breath and cone of cold, I got once 6.5K burn tick from it.

After that I am extra careful not to use that skills against a blocking guardian.

they survive 2v1

at least pre nerfed warriors can still be easily put down.

3v1 them…get 9 ppl in your team and you gonna be fine vs double ele

Notice how fast they nerf whatever people complained about with engies? It’s coz not that many people play it in pve, wvw and pvp.

It will be harder for them to nerf eles coz it’s over represented in all 3 game modes.

Maybe reverse psychology would work

Please buff eles. Make blinding ashes baseline so I can get 25 might stacks in no time. We have one of the lowest health pools and our healing isn’t that great anymore.

That is because you need one for the fields (Staff – Fire/Water) and one to blast them (Scepter/Focus – LH) and 4 Ice Bows (which will be somehow nerfed in HoT) not that Scepter Focus has awesome damages

Ele should have a “universal” playstyle spec that can do those things (mobility, boons, etc.) but that the damage output is too high and might boon is the culprit. This seems like the same conversation a year+ ago …

GW2 devs balance things, it was never their intention to delete ele from the game.
That much has always been obvious still…some people go on with their pointless hate crusade.

The only reason Elem. is overused in PvE is because of Icebow. Icebow have high burst and great control over the boss, with deep freeze and remove stacks. Each icebow can give you 4 to 5s free dps. Elem. have also high dps but for ex. sinister engi have 19k+ dps, but sinister engi don’t have icebow and sucks using it because condition damage does not effect icebow damage.

Can we please look at separating off all balance between PvP and PvE I’m tired of my Necro being turned to crap in PvE all for the sake of trying to balance it for PvP. They should be 2 completely separate skill sets and one should have nothing to do with the other because the end result is OP in one area of play while compromised in the others.

Suggest that discussion be put on hold until a month or two after HOT release. I’m willing to bet the Meta will change with the introduction of Elite specs. Will the Ele still be the top dog? I don’t know but let the Meta settle a bit please.

So, I can’t go into much detail on things quite yet, but I just wanted to reassure you folks that we’re actively discussing a number of issues that are affecting balance in PvP – including, but not limited to elementalist sustain/damage. Per the usual, we’ll be talking to you folks about the changes once we’ve finalized them.

TY Grouch Please make sure to get in any balance changes to ele in before HoT comes out, so that any balance issues with specializations can be handled separate.

I have been hating PvP for the last month thanks to how OP the cele d/d ele is, so the sooner the balance the better IMO.

Celestial elementalist is OP not because of its damage (though burn is a bit OP across the board right now – not an issue with elementalist in itself), but through it’s godlike sustain and healing. If burning gets nerfed as it should, cele d/d ele would then lose access to most of its damage right now. Its base damage isn’t actually that high. You need to sacrifice a lot to land a fire grab for the burst.

The amount of healing it has though, is a bit ridiculous. You can burst an ele down to 5-10% hp, then they can switch to water and heal back up to 100% in 2 seconds. I’m having flashbacks about the discussion on warrior healing signet…

I assure you, Cele D/D Elle can be beat. Yes they do have really good healing, but they can’t go from 5% to 100%. maybe 5% to 80%, but not 100%. I play D/D elle decently well, im not a pro by any means, but i can hold my own at times. I know my rotations and how to land a good burning burst.

How to counter a Cele D/D Elle: First and foremost on the list is Mantra Shatter Mesmer. If any build needs a nerf its that one. This build is so op that, Burn guard, DD elle, Medi guard, Ranger, Engi, and war can not beet it, unless you get lucky. The closes counter to this build is ether another mantra shatter Mesmer, or a thief, and you have to get lucky with the thief to win… Cele D/D elle Can’t even come close against it.

Another counter to DD elle is a good PU Mesmer, and dare i say it, a good condi ranger.

Now this has been in full 1v1 environments, this is not DD elles strong point, its still good, but not its main strength.

Where D/D Elle’s power truly lies is in team fights and rotations.
This still can be beet. you just have to know how to counter it. Main counter to a D/D elle team in team fights is. A bunker guard. get a bunker guard in that team fight with a more high dps team.

DD Elle is not as strong as it once was, a 3 DD elle team is just not a viable team now a days, sure you will have the rotations, but you will lack focus damage.

My main thoughts are this.
DD Elle burning is a little OP, but that’s burning in general.
There healing is not that OP, Medi guard, bunk guard, all can pop there health back up from 5% back to 85% even faster in some cases. Heck, even engi can take its health from 5% to 65% in a good burst healing.
I feel that if your running Cele, your going to have better healing then if you run zerk, its how it is. Weather that’s to much extra healing or not is up to you to decide.

DD Cele elle is a true jack of all treads. To beat it, you just have to play an Ace, at the right time. :)

Hey there. I’ve killed d/d eles with the class you’re playing now, mesmer. And I’ve also killed d/d eles with rampage warrior at its current state. d/d eles no problem with cele signet necro. you may think this is funny but I’ve killed d/d eles with a burn guard. it’s not fiction that i’ve killed d/d eles with a ranger.

but the funnest way to kill d/d eles is with a d/d ele and the reason i’m able to kill them with the classes above is because i know how to play one. im not very good, but understanding their attunements and CDs help a lot

This guy has got the answer. Play an ele and familiarize yourself with their cool downs. It’s the same in ANY pvp game you can play. You need to know what they have before you can counter it appropriately. I haven’t lost 1v1 against a dd cele ele yet as settlers condi ranger but I doubt I’ve fought the best. But I have played ele and I do understand their game plan.

Don’t get him wrong: necro minions got fixed after 3 years and the blood trait line is no longer a complete joke. Necro is in such a sorry state that it’s worthy of worship.

By the way, we were finally doing slightly better than ranger after 2 years of complete trash tier, but with the incoming dd ele nerf, it’s over.

Balance team is a bunch of clowns, hurting the game to the full extent of their abilities.

Well, I play s/d trickery thief with quickness and fast initiative regain and 3 stunbreaker I have double burst time as all other thiefs. I also play d/d ele and know when my time is coming ^^ and its nice using the ice shard stab twice against them XD

I wil love fighting more when my dodge getting leap finisher and I can play my lovely s/p like at the beginning when evade on thief was untouched., prepeare yourself ele for the new upcoming burstdps. OMG fging STAFFHYPE and finaly using a second weaponset like every other class

Believe in the Gee, we have incoming scepter and axe buffs apparently. And hopefully more. fingers crossed and they have been listening to Necro complaints a lot.

this kind of discussion is moot imo. I mean, ive killed plenty of BAD d/d eles with my ranger as well. ive also killed good ones by +1’ing a fight. but GOOD d/d eles (pretty much all eles in the top mmr area) are a totally different story. and this is where you really notice how broken the thing is. theyre literally the best bunkers in the game, in addition to boasting huge burning damage and mobility. it’s totally broken, and as I said, discussing “how to kill d/d eles” is moot because knowing how is not an issue when every player in your game is extremely good.

Mesmers can do it. Boonstrip means their might isn’t too much of an issue. Whittle them down until they enter water and burst immediately after. (Unless they’re in earth)

TBH, Mesmer boonstrip isn’t that good these days. The meta Power Shatter is only going to have Shattered Concentration, which just removes one boon per shatter skill use. Eles should have a lot of cover boons, so you won’t necessary get an important one.

Similar things can be said for Mesmer.

Mesmers have 16k DPS in PvE? I’d love to see the build and rotation that pulls that off.

TBH, Mesmer boonstrip isn’t that good these days. The meta Power Shatter is only going to have Shattered Concentration, which just removes one boon per shatter skill use. Eles should have a lot of cover boons, so you won’t necessary get an important one.

I’m fairly sure shattered concentration removes 1 boon per shatter skill hit, so a maximum of 4 boons per shatter. So very strong.
Unless I’m understanding it wrong?
