so.. how would u rate gw2 pvp (spvp tpvp)
It was 8/10 a month ago, right now its 5/10 because ANET buffed Mesmers even though they are already too good for the game’s standards.
Good game, but the people who are in-charge of balancing lacks experience.
3/10 for me too.
4/10 for me but they still develop pve instead of pvp because they need money……..well pvers will leave sooner or later anyway no matter how much content they will deliver. Pvp players are stable base but they neglected them so they are leaving and will hardly come back.
I like it better than most mmos on account of there being no trinity.
I give it a 5 out of 10. In contrast, I give Aion a 0, WOW a 3, Rift a 5, Warhammer a 6. Warhammers high score is on account of some really good maps and games. Its class balance was garbage.
Things I would add
-Different game modes
-real world xp to attract players
- more class diversity
- the bunker vs cannon meta is not interesting
As to the bunker vs cannon meta, when you copy a Moba game this is what you get I guess
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
N/A
No ladder no rating.
Combat:9/10
The combat is fun and interactive, and frankly the best of any MMO I’ve ever played.
Everything else: 3/10
The maps are stale, there’s no ladder/ranking, hotjoin is a zergfest, premades roll through free tournies, and paid ques take forever.
Final rating: 5/10
Needs new game modes (that are actually fun), ladder, ranking, new maps, and some way to draw casuals into PvP. No casuals = no viewers = no esport.
6/10.
I still think it’s overall a good game. The fact that PVP isn’t gear based justified the whole purchase for me back in the day. I like the fact that it’s skill, and not how many hours you’ve been grinding to get gear, that determines the victor.
I like how fast paced it is and that there is no holy trinity. Maybe the current meta doesn’t allow it, but every profession leaves quite a bit of room for creativity when it comes to making builds, and that’s an aspect I like.
What I don’t like: lacking every feature of an e-sport, map and game mode variety is definitely too little, some classes are definitely too powerful compared to others and the devs seem to be oblivious to it. About this last thing in particular, I don’t like how the devs are completely silent when it comes to plans for the near or far future and how they’re so slow with fixing and balancing.
All in all, I’d say GW2 is a solid and fun game. Could be infinitely better, but for now its PVP is much better than everything I’ve played so far.
4/10
Poor map design
Poor choice of game mode
Poor game mode variety
Some balance issues, but mostly ok with the exception of brokenly overpowered things that they refuse to touch.
Class design concept makes GW2 basically the least team oriented MMO I’ve ever played.
They somehow manage to introduce new game breaking bugs every single patch. (see infinite loading screen resurfacing in multiple patches)
All in all, it needs a lot of improvement. After listening to the weak kitten interview about the promised WvW update, I’m leaning more toward uninstalling than logging in.
we may consider whether or not there is an incarnation of [ele] that would be viable
but balanced. For now, we do not expect it to see serious use.” – ANet
probably around 4/10.
Only good thing is combat, class balance overall is okay.
Bad side:
-conquest doesnt work as main game mode
-traits dont work when it comes to build making/game is 2 simple with not enough options that RLY matter.
-terrible to watch – huge clusterkitten on screen. (avrg ~200-300 viewers Gw2 vs ~40000-100000 viewers LoL)
-released without key e-sport elements.
WoW i rate 3/10, Aion 2/10, Gw1 around 8/10, LoL 9/10, Sc2 7/10
2/10 , only because we have PvP.
No balance at all.
No attention to pvp whatsoever.
One numb and boring game mode which looks like it was designed in 10 minutes.
Only 2 viable builds.
Lots and lots of bugs leaving some classes utterly useless.
No rankings, ladders or any sort of achievment system.
And i could continue for long time but i value my time too much to do that.
Combat 10/10
The core gameplay is fantastic. Gone is the requirement for tedious keybind management and macros which dominate other MMO pvp. In comes twitch mechanics like dodging and basically far more skill that ever before. Now you win if you are skilled and not if you play more (for more gear) or download add ons to gain an advantage. In short the core gameplay is nothing short of brilliant. Some people hate it because its skill and twitch based and they suck. But thats life. There is a ton of other mmo’s (almost all failed) which they can go to if they just like clicking buttons and dont have the skill for gw2.
Features for PvP 3/10
I love conquest in all games. And its not a problem for me with it being only this game type. But there are so many other features that are missing or badly designed. We all know what is missing (anet knows too) and we know what sucks (anet doesnt know). I only play tpvp because hotjoins are very dull and lame. The points system is to blame for rewarding zerging and making the whole thing ultra lame. If you play properly in gw2 hotjoin you wont get much glory, wont get many points and wont have fun because you will help your team win but you will just get zerged and die over and over. Not very fun. This should be something they change asap as its probably a culprit for a slightly declining pvp in a game which is otherwise thriving to a ridiculous extent (game of the year, worlds still full, wvw packed still, etc etc).
Balance and meta-game 0/10
This is where the whole things falls down for me. Currently the meta and gameplay is dominated by a few roles. That is the ultra bunker who just sits on graveyard or keep or clocktower and shuts it down and the mega glass cannon which is the only way to really burst down a bunker fast enough (with help) before he gets reinforcements. The whole of tpvp revolves around the guardian and the mesmer. The guardian is just flat out too strong. Sure a engie and an ele bunker can be annoying and hard to kill. They might even be slightly too hard to kill. But it isnt game breaking for me. What is gamebreaking is the power of the guardian to just shut a point down for the whole match. I dont know how long till we see some guardian nerfs and probably a nerf to retliation and protection. The mesmer is also too strong. Anet need to reverse the might change and nerf the shatter build in another way to reduce the power of this class. They have already said they intend to nerf AoE abilities which is welcome as currently necros well spamming needs to be bought under control whilst also giving them other ways to operate (I think).
Basically untill bunker builds are bought under control then balanced builds wont be viable and tpvp will be bad. Protection and retaliation need to see significant nerfs and so does the guardian. Then we might start to see some new builds coming out. Yes the mesmer is way too strong but the meta is still defined by guardian bunker builds. Everything else feeds off this.

Confused design with sPvP and tPvP.
I don’t understand what can i learn or practice in sPvP with play the same boring mode in 2 month.
It always zerg all the time and seldom meet people to def the point.
There are only 4 team mates in tPvP, but 8(?) team mates in sPVP.
I can’t even 1 by 1 to practice with stupid design.
Party with my friends in heart of mist and click “join with my friend”, and we can’t join the same team because the trash auto balance system.
In my opinion, the designer doesn’t know how to balance at all.
You can see there are about 5+ thief in one game at sPvP.
Thiefs not only over power but also can avoid most of damage with invisible.
This is the worst design with thiefs can invisible invisible and invisible for a short time.
No matter you are in sPvP tPvP or WvW, You always can see the thief kill run kill run and kill run.
You can’t stop thiefs invisible.
They can easily kill people for 5 sec and run away .
Even if they can’t kill you because you are a tank, and you can do nothing with them.
The def elementalist can easily survive with 5 people attack at the same time.
It is impossible to kill the def elementalist with 2 guys.
You can see the Lv30+ elementalist players in sPvP and they never defeat once in a game.
I think the class designer need to learn how to play.
the balance at all is like kittens
This is why no body want to play paid or free tPvP because it is not fun with kitten balance.
overall 4/10
Reasons:
no ladders /rankings
waaaaaaay to less viable builds
big skillcap between classes
only one game pvp mode
no xp from pvp
all about burst or bunker
too much clones/pets/illusions and other crap in pvp
way to less statistic
overall balance decisions are bad – best example mesmer
hot join: 4/10 → zerg zerg zerg
free tournament: 8/10 →is really fun when you fight against guildies against random is a massacre
paid tournament: 7/10 →is really hard because most of time you play against top team. was much better if the new team fight each other on first round, still is here where we learn most .
we should be able to trade glory for gems (pve guys can trade gold for gems why we cant?), you know wxist things on market i would love have without spend real money or go farm gold on pve
other thing, is ridiculous teh amount of rank points you need after reach lvl39 and dont forget each 10 lvl that amount increase a lot.
4/10
no ability to see what’s going on
- effects are often one big spell mess and hardly distinguishable
- teleports, stealth and NPC spawning are way too frequent, causing confusion and making it nearly impossible to assess the state of the battlefield
very small in size and features
- only capture points game type
- only 3 maps for tournies, 5 for random play which still isn’t much
- tournaments last only 3 rounds, would be way more exciting if it was like GW1 HA where you could have 10 rounds, although this might only work if there were actually 10 maps
- no rankings, no duelling, no custom tournaments for testing, QP list is posted on the forums, which is nice of them to do but it also shows they just failed to put it in the game or even on some PvP section of the website, cause not everyone visits forums
too many anti-fun mechanics (note: these are very much personal opinion!)
- downed state
- high amount of NPCs in PvP (ranger pet, necro minions, mesmer clones, guardian weapons, engineer turrets, even random rune and sigil spawns like rock dog)
- frequent in combat stealth
- mesmer clones
- unnecessarily powerful skills and traits (100% invulnerability, 100% evade, 100% increased attack and activation speed, 25% passive run speed boost, etc)
Especially the last point is a big downer for me, GW1 limited the power per skill a lot and this worked out very well imo. It created a fun PvP environment where one, two or three shotting someone was absolutely impossible, and where a smart combo or a group effort was required to reach the power that GW2 has in a single instant activate button, that doesn’t even have energy cost cause for some reason they thought it smarter to simplify the game even more.

5/10 for almost no useful/needed improvements to balance after the “balance patches”.
Anet have shown they have no clue how to balance a game. They also prioritize the wrong changes. They seem to only want to hit a certain number range of bullet points without caring about doing whatever is needed to fix this mess. I can’t believe any real thought goes into their balancing process.
Balancing issues for SPvP and WvW is why I can no longer play this game on a daily basis. I joined this game expecting good PvP. Either from WvW, SPvP, or both.
For WvW: Zerging is too rewarding, making tactics and strategy near useless. +1 is the only thing that truly matters(especially tier 1). 3/10
(edited by Akumu.7238)
Very nice mini game, should be a sort of separate entity from the main game and also shouln’t affect in how the main player base deal in what they’re up to.
As for now, i’ll give it 2/10 since it’s only negatively effecting a game called guild wars 2. Sure, i would give it a 3/10 if i’ll be up and also like to cry and moan on the forum while calling nerf left and right.
class balance: 4/10
most things are fine with the exception of afew well known FotMs but that has a huge impact.
(and the devs don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing if i’m 100% honest.)
replayability: 2/10
there are 5 maps, all the same game mode, on repeat, forever.
(more game modes needed to raise the score!)
reward: 2/10
you get access to new armor/weapon skins (only usable in the pvp zone) every 10 “ranks” but by rank 9 these ranks will start taking a lifetime to go through, and with no reward each rank it feels like you’re not getting anything atall other than “glory” which you have nothing to spend on!
(unlock skins each rank rather than lots of skins every 10 ranks, or allow glory to be used for something worth while)
gameplay: 8/10
its still GW2 with the dodging and the awesome gameplay, afew chunky mechanics like stealth however.
overall: 4/10
loads of work to be done, currently there are very few games with pvp that come to mind which are worse than GW2, massively overpowered FotM builds, only one game mode.
2/10 , only because we have PvP.
No balance at all.
No attention to pvp whatsoever.
One numb and boring game mode which looks like it was designed in 10 minutes.

avrg score from all posts combined is 4,31/10 pretty good for an esport game right

yea its p sad a few post are just l2p issue but after a while u get better and u learn how to manage but still is not just that what they say.
9/10 wahhh tdm is for pros.
9.5/10 thief qq.
10/10 baddies blaming the game for their inability to play it.
Overall gw2 forum pvp gets a 9.5/10 from me.
these threads should be deleted. these do nothing but screw the games changes over even more.

This is pretty funny actually. All this Thread ask is how would u rate gw2 pvp. OP did not ask why this game pvp is bad bla bla bla.
Thing is…
If game is bad – its bad and from 20 posts u get avrg score 4,3 / 10. If u think pvp is good then give it 10/10 (if u rly think its the score pvp deserve). Crying about ppl giving their personal opinion won’t make this game any better. Anyway no matter what we say here on forum it makes like 0,00001% difference on how they change the game anyway – honestly they dont give a kitten about random ppl writing random stuff. They know better anyway – thats why this game pvp is such a big e-sport – dont u think?
If game is bad – its bad and from 20 posts u get avrg score 4,3 / 10.
Nothing to do with the game, just forumwarriors opinion of the game. Lot of guys who are bad at gw2 and good at blaming gw2 for it. All the most common complaints on this forum could be restated as “I’m bad, please change the game to help me win sometimes”.
Bad at conquest?
Conquest is boring!
Die to backstab?
Thieves are OP!
Can’t kill a bunker?
Bunkers need a nerf!
I’d give it a 9+. GW1+2 are two of the three best pvp mmos I’ve played. The thing is, I’m bad, but I’m not a complete mess of fail like 90% of the posters on this board, who think things like thieves are OP.
(edited by Mammoth.1975)
i like GW2 PVP… i would rate it maybe 6/10, if they add some key features (i hope its comming in jan/feb patches) and bring bunkers and bursters a bit more in line with other builds (already said they will do), it will be 9/10 and more maps/modes for the last think i miss here :P
hot join 5/10 tpvp 8/10
I prefer Huttball
During beta I loved the PvP, but now, 3/10.
I’ve stopped playing hot join because most games are filled with Thieves running glass cannon builds, and the burst they produce is far too high for the skill required to pull it off. Survival boils down to whether or not my stun breakers/condition removal is on CD or not. If I have CDs I live and get to at least fight back, if not I die. Pretty boring situation given the recharge time of some of the stun breakers.
As for tPvP, I typically only play when my guildies need players, but I have little interest in taking it seriously. Unfortunately I just don’t have the time to devote to it anymore.
Capture and hold gets boring quite fast as well, and the lack of build diversity between the classes doesn’t help. The map rotation is annoying as well, I would rather be able to choose my map and remain playing it for each game. Capricorn just doesn’t do it for me
The ranking system is pretty worthless as well, as is always the case with time based ranking. Just part of their sPvP grind I guess.
That being said, I dislike fast games and I’m not really convinced that the majority of comps can be valid, or that team skill > build choice.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the lack of custom servers. I know they are coming, but not being able use these to practice with guildies without randoms joining, or being able to play solely on a specific map doesn’t help. Hopefully the Feb patch will address this.

Class balance 7/10
Gameplay 10/10
Hotjoin 5/10
Free tourney 7/10
Paid tourney 9/10
PvP availability 10/10
Overall 48/60 or 8/10
1/10 simply because it offers NOTHING that the MMO with the best pvp system ever had to offer (guild wars 1).
Combat 10/10 – its fast, requires skill to control your character and tactics. No healers adds a huge + overall.
Features in pvp 4/10 – lack of duels, lack of different modes, lack of more maps. Also an incredible lack of attention towards pvp from developers – you can barely spot the difference in pvp from beta.
Class balance 7/10 – most of them can be countered, bunkers in my opinion are too strong.
So overall 7/10 – still the best pvp I had in mmorpg in all my life.
Combat and fluidity (or as I call: the foundation): 9.5/10
What Anet has actually done with it in SPVP: 3/10
Actually, only free and paid tourn. are pvp in my opinion. Hotjoin is just stupid zergfest with 30%-50% thieves and / or mesmers. Thats not pvp.
Well, its getting really boring doing the same 3 maps over and over again .. with just one mode. There are many bugs that are known for months now and not fixed yet, balance is not the best IMHO. Burst is to high – bunker abilities are to strong, restriction in weapon-/armor-/amulett-/utility-lock makes was a bad decision IMHO.
Combat-system is good. But thats not enough. There were many good suggestions in this forum but ANet doesnt even respond to them. They say they read what the community writes, but i dont see any results. Balancing-patches were crap.
So, overall: 3/10
I really hope Jan/Feb patch will bring some good things to the game, making it more interesting, more viable builds, less bugs and better balancing. If not – i think PvP will be dead for GW2. But i dont have great hopes and trust in ANet, not with there actual pvp-dev-team.
5/10
-1 for balance
-1 for conquest
-1 for no spikes
-1 for no interrupts and monks
-1 for no ladder
5/10 with POTENTIAL to be 9.5/10
(remove autofacing; balance; allow for single match ranked ques 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 5v5; allow deathmatch mode…done).
3/10 becouse thay don’t give any improvements in pvp from release date…
Definitely see a trend arising that matches my own impressions of the game. Gameplay is really good, balance is mediocre, everything else is basically absent.
It really shows the PvP team has their specialty but little scope. There doesn’t seem to be anyone on their team that branches out into other categories outside of gameplay and its killed the game.
Combat:9/10
The combat is fun and interactive, and frankly the best of any MMO I’ve ever played.Everything else: 3/10

Needs new game modes (that are actually fun), ladder, ranking, new maps, and some way to draw casuals into PvP. No casuals = no viewers = no esport.
Here here! This is exactly how I feel, sir. I recently picked up Forge and haven’t logged into the dreaded mists for a long time. Maybe a year from now this game will have a proper PvP system. I look forward to that day.
combat: 9/10 – 2nd to none and obviously what ate up most of the time and budget
hotjoins: 2/10 – just wrong. all wrong.
tourneys: 6/10 – meta gets stale far too quickly, still seeing the same classes in the same roles doing the same things
balance: 5/10 – not horrible but still so much work needed
overall: N/A – PvP is clearly an unfinished product and not in a state worthy of being ranked
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
The combat and controls are top notch.
Everything is total kitten.
2/10
Positives:
-The game mechanics and idea are brilliant
- Quite a few maps (very fun maps at that)
Negatives:
-The lack of game types
- No option joining spvp with groups
- No ladder/ranking
- No real drive to get pvp rewards
- Mists & character feel completely separated from the real world
- Blatant FOTM classes and Anet does nothing
- exploits and glitches and still no fixes
-Tournaments are the exact same all the time, why no map rotation?
-No Dueling system
- Very limited builds that will actually work
- Burst & Bunker only things actually viable, balanced builds left to rot
- My ranger absolutely sucks, worst ranger type class I have ever played. Cannot do anything
- Uneven player game matches almost 100% of the time (Why is there no queue system?)
- No penalty for quitters in free tournaments
There’s more but I’m tired of ranting.
Don’t even let Mammoth troll yous. Guys a idiot.
(edited by MarcusKilgannon.5048)
I give the PvP 6.5/10.
The basic mechanics are great, love dodging, like cooldowns, like the look etc.
Problems: too much burst/bunker which = not enough build variety. Desperately needs more game modes.
so yeah after a day of post we got like 4 positive post lol, well maybe ppl that like this type of game or how everything is going dont want to post but i doubt it lol.
well i hope this thread help this sharp guy to do something other than say l2p, but with the ammount of post in this forum it clearly shows that they dont read this.

A vast majority of players, especially ones that enjoy the game, never even come to a message board forum, let alone this one, which is overrun with negativity.
To better answer, yes, a lot of us don’t bother posting as much anymore, because most of you don’t listen nor do you really want to improve. I’ve watched far too many of my constructive, lengthy posts written about balanced builds and tactics scroll down into obscure oblivion and be replaced with a 200 response “nerf Thief” thread.
I’m sure the devs read a lot of this. And thankfully, I’m sure they ignore a vast majority of it.
That said I rate the game 8/10… the core gameplay and viability of multiple builds, in spite of some opinions here, is amazing (viable doesn’t always mean how fast you kill another player). The implementation of tournaments, the point scale, rankings, etc. are things that have been slowly/poorly implemented. The new game types will come in time, that’s not a problem with the game, that’s just a lot of you get bored after playing 1000 hours of something. Of course you would, who wouldn’t?
I give it a 7/10
Positives :
- Easy joining, whether it’s random or tournament
- Down system is interesting
- Easy rank accessible to everyone
Negative :
- Capping system ( 1 man hold) which makes some classes boring to face ( guardians, mesmer portals, etC..)
- Rank system which isn’t really good if you only play tournaments
1 It’s terrible…
