solo q full of engies
Solo queue has always been full of engineers. That’s because they are pretty much the ultimate carry for solo queue. Just be glad you aren’t playing against them before they had Automated Response nerfed.
Engineer is extremely effective in solo queue due to a number of factors:
1. Undodgeable condi spam (Incendiary Powder, doom/geo)
2. Crate being overpowered in 1v1s and also a good contribution to any size skirmish
3. Perma swiftness and easy escapes if you are out of position, just shield block/invis your way across the map. Easy access to perma swiftness is huge in solo queue, given how random the rotations can be.
4. Ability to affect fights from 1500 range.
5. Great downed body cleave: nades/poison/vuln stacking
6. Stealth/invuln stomps
You could probably add more to this but yeah, thats most of it in a nutshell.
Engineer gets less strong in team queue, where its easier to coordinate and bring one down due to the lack of condi clear.
so every solo player should just roll an engi?
they can work great together too besides being amazing at 1 vs 1.
this game seems incredibly unbalanced at the time and what exactly counters aoe spamming engi?
Turret engies are out of control but so are Passive AI, CC spam and Condition dmg\spam. Talking about any class not just engies.
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!
Pretty good summation infantry.
I would add to it this one thing though:
#. One of the strongest heals in-game (highest HP/s) that is nearly impossible to interrupt and carries a RIDICULOUSLY LARGE water field (480 range iirc) and group heal on it. Also cures condies.
Don’t forget about the CC; the profession probably has the greatest amount thereof.

Engineer is the hardest counter to the thief class in the game IMO. I actually think that at mid-tier its a harder counter than thief vs. mesmer.
If you are sick of fighting condition, or cele rifle engineers and want to beat them, I suggest running condi necro or survival condi ranger.
Against turret engineers, if they are sitting on their home point, with no one around, leave them there. Use it to your advantage to secure a really strong grasp on your home and mid point nodes while you outnumber your enemy.
Another good counter to engineers in general is staff elementalist. This can help fight back against condi spam in team fights with lots of AoE clear for your team, and you can also destroy turrets with your fire AoEs like Meteor shower.

This is all good advice. In general I tend to think that anything that can function at least marginally well as a point defender does great in solo-que. A lot of condition-focused classes usually fall in line with this logic as they tend to be proficient in 1v1 situations but also can contribute to larger scale fights.
The second part is a big deal, and if only everybody you played with knew it turret engie build would be in the dumpster. Unfortunately, you usually end up with at least one person pushing the turret engie node all game and dieing to it.

All go survival celestial ranger with entangle+krait, unload all your condis after they use healing turret and watch them die (Fear them out of point with wolf and then entangle)…when they’re down don’t stomp and just jump all around while spamming sbow bleeds on the downed guy offpoint. This is the best way to go vs easymode engis atm.
Just make them ragequit, make an heavy hardcounter and when you see one of them in the enemy team just get your ranger (Or condi nec) and gank them all day….if you wanna get rid of those cancers this is the best way to go…after some time you’re gonna get engis on the other team actually rerolling to something else when they see you before match start, good old hardcounter wars are always fun

You are helping creating another monster I am surprised that type of ranger isn’t more popular.
Highest ranked reached 28 soloq
Isle of Janthir
To be effective with axe/torch (usual cond ranger weapons) you need to be in melee, at which point it’s in the engineers favor.
You can go shortbow bleed build and kite , but it would be largely useless outside of dueling situations.
The trick is to be both good vs the eng and useful to a team, so cond. necro may be you’re best bet
Any condi spam just shuts down engi, I don’t even know what are you talking about. Any heavy CC shutsdown engi (dat 1 stunbreak so op >_>). Any mesmer\powerranger pew-pewing from some high ledge in teamfight shuts down engi, forcing him to blow defensive CDs and not doing anything.
It’s not that engi is OP, it’s just soloQ has so random team comps and people not trying to rotate against classes they counter. Btw not a single thief in my soloQ exp ever wanted to switch his class even though he’s not rly fitting in (all those Sizer wannabes, omg)
if you see engineers why dont you switch to a ele or necro? Most of the time i switch to my warrior and use stances with juggeranut elite. They run if there not turrents and you should be able to beat turrents. Seriously just kill the healing turrent and have a stability skill.
