why does every video game has to have a heimerdinger? give the engi pets (golems for example) like all the other classes have. something that does not have damage resistance and can get hit with by conditions and cc. aside from having dmg resistance and condi/cc immunity, they also give the engi warp 10, meaning he can fight at all 3 nodes at the same time. he can just place turrets at 2 locations and than go fight at a third location. and for the love of god dont give him a pet that can stun people every few seconds (thumper). have you ever seen how a game with multiple turret engis looks like? its very stupid and annoying, they can afford to not even pay attention to you and you still get killed by their turrets unless you go away from the node.

the entire turret concept is flawed because it creates a situation that cannot be balanced. i have never seen any game that has successfully implemented a turret class into its gameplay. i dont see what is the whole point behind the attempt is, mobile pets work just fine.

I have, 3 HGH engis > 3 turret engis

I love turrets b/c the the best counters are some classic builds that haven’t seen a lot of play lately.

Learn and adapt. Turret engis have their weaknesses like anything else. If they leave turrets at other points they are gimping themselves quite a bit in whatever pt they are actually fighting at.

They should be removed. Just not for the reason stated. AI builds lead to bad and lazy players. Anet really shouldn’t be encouraging that by leaving those builds in game with them being so viable.

as an Engi who doesn’t use turrets (albeit the healing turret which gets a good blasting/picking straight up) my tactic involves;

Using my build (to save explanation) Deschain Munroe – Bionic Commando

“save dodges for missiles and pulls if he’s smart enough to use the tool kit. Then try for a pull myself, burst him down a little then pop elixir x and delete him/her. 20 sec of stability and cc is bad news for them.”

Main big dmg spikes and cc come from rocket turret, avoid missiles. Range it, then range him/her. If you can pull/stealth pull, do so to get him away from the turrets. Once they’re on the ropes use stability and a burst rotation to go for deletion…but time it for when they are a) low on dodges or b) have their block on CD if any.

Step 1: Take out the Rocket turret. It dies VERY fast and is the only thing between the engi and all the rest of his turrets, doing any significant damage.
Step2: Kill the engi. You say you are a Mesmer and thumper turret is hard? You are ranged…why are you standing on point? If he owns the point, there is no need for you to be on it until he is dead. If you own the point, engage him before he gets to the point.

Fun fact. Thumper turret has a very small range of knockback. It cannot cover the whole point. If it is in the center..just stay on the outsides of the point. If it is off centered, stay on the opposite side of the point.

Turret engis do hardly any damage. Their turrets do all the work (Rocket turret being 75% of all damage from all the turrets and Engi himself combined). Kill it and gg.

It’s broken and for some reason Anet doesn’t want to fix it.

I was trying to get some people into PvP and then the game just placed us face to face with 3 to 5 turret engi every matches.

They need to increase the cooldown on knockdowns and immob. or add a penality to turrets from working in circles (50% increased cooldowns?), just like stealth or mistform doesn’t work in circles.

The problem isn’t 1 turrent engi specifically, it’s having 2 engis or more at the same location. Maybe just having a limit on the amount of turrets in a certain area would do it.

Rocket turret only makes up 75% of a bad turret engi’s damage. The rifle auto attack does the same amount of damage in the time the rocket turret fires a single shot. A engi that is not braindead will be hitting you with blunderbuss and jumpshot whenever they can.

i dont feel like changing my class/build every time i see an engi in the enemy team. and there is nothing you can do if they get 3-4 turret engi and know how to play them.

does not work when they have 3-4 of the them and they are all over your nodes, not just their close. you cant just move away from all nodes and and expect to win.

agreed, and killing mobs/pets is a bad idea against any class. plus the turret has dmg resistance and crit/condi immunity, it takes waaaaay to much time to kill it.

3. have you ever tried to take out an engi turret? it has dmg reduction, crit immunity and condi immunity, it takes way too much time to kill them, and it is almost theoretically impossible to kill them if you play a condi build.

what do you mean by adapt? do you mean change class/build every time you see engies in the enemy team? i dont feel the need to “adapt” when i see thiefs or rangers in the enemy team.

the key to beating a turret engineer is not being as brain dead as the turret engineer and picking your fights, you dont even have to change your build, you just have to realize that sometimes its stupid to run into an enemy you cant beat, instead realize your build uses condis or CC or you dont have the range to take down the turrets and then go do something else.

also supply crate dosent make an engineer a turret engineer.

my engineer’s bombs do about 700-900 dmg and i have taken out supply crates seconds after they were dropped on my head. decent power damage is all you need. if the rocket turret is off point kill that, then thow your AOEs on point. if you have the fortune of being a condi build, well then my god how are you losing this? the engineer can cure 2 conditions every 20 seconds, just load them up and watch them die.

i main engineer and this is not a build i would reccomend. you have hardly any opportunity to outplay the opponent (all you can do is cc chain thats it), and you are doomed if you come up against a warrior with stability and a hammer. sure, you might have to adjust your tactics- but if you have played any game with multiple classes/builds you should know that adjusting you strategy is integral to sucess. if you see the engineer and just run in, sit on point and get cc locked and wonder why you are dying you need to start thinking when you play.

as a shatter mesmer, which is a high damage (aoe? shatter is aoe right?) you should be fine. kill the rocket turret then blast the engineer. all they can do is use rifle skills on you, and since most of the attacks have a short range you should be able to just outrange him with your greatsword. all of their traits have gone into turrets bar one or two points, so the only defense they have is the soldiers amulet. they have to eat your burst, burst them.

PS: to all you complaing about how to beat 3 or 4 turret engineers, dudes… you are part of a team you should not be going up against 2 people on a point alone. you have a team of five, so do they. you cannot expect to solo 2 or more people, but guess what you don’t have to- because you have a team.

Well I was slightly exaggerating but you still must take out the rocket turret. I never said take out ALL the turrets. Rocket turret is a must and then you eliminate (more like ) 50% of the damage coming to you. Yes, I have slaughtered many teams running 5 turret engis. While they are annoying, they are still easy. Rocket turret only takes 2 seconds to take out. It is extremely weak compared to other turrets. You CC and use CD’s on players to reduce their damage do you not? Same concept, kill the turret and it is gone. It doesn’t come back for almost a minute and by then the engi should be dead. Rocket turret is probably like 50% of their damage and that is a pretty close number.

There are two reasons why turret engis are still effective and why the players in this game are simply terrible – sorry can’t put this lightly it is the sad truth

1- The inability to adapt – I want to play my build and play it my way I will not change if the enemy team is running something that I am ineffective against I would rather lose and complain on the forums

2- Attempting to fight on-point instead of using LoS – Why can players not understand that this is one of the most powerful strategies against turret engis, the AI is easily outsmarted if you use the terrain to your advantage yet I continuously see people run straight onto the point eating all the turrets damage and getting blown up

I have lost all hope for the average player in this game – simply not good enough to use either tactic – would rather make posts on forums

I can take out a turret engi with a full glass Mesmer/Ranger
Condi Necro/Engi
Most Warrior/Guardian Builds

The only class that is sort of screwed is the Thief because all of its damage is melee and its ranged pressure is very weak but a Thief should not really be attempting to 1v1 anyway especially a point that is already capped by the opponent

i main thief and i am sick of having to leave the node every time i see a turret engi. not to mention when there are 3-4 of them that basically means i have to leave all nodes. it seems that you dont have problems with being hard countered by someone just because he chose one class and i chose another, i prefer to be beaten by people that have better skills than me, not that pick a different calls/build.

well killing the rocket turret does make a difference if the engie is stupid and puts it in a place you can reach and doesn’t take healing turrets but if he doesn’t match those qualities then they can easily stall you till help arrives without lifting a finger… and yes just go 5v4 the other two points that usually end up being far and mid until V

2 turret engies with a brain enter the picture its even more fun especially when they decide to be mobile and they cap a point one leaves his turrets to stall/damage you and go to another point to cc the crowd to death and still make it back in time to crate you.

but hey any class that takes 2 people to down fast enough is fine apparently or you must take some weird build only for engies that gets stomped by anything else yay…

No, I beat several turret engis back when I was a noob power ranger…
With the trait, you have the same range as the turrets and larger range than the engi, so you can position yourself so that you can take down the rocket turret without any other turrets hitting you (which is also easy to dodge). After the rocket turret is dead, the engi is an easy target.
If the engi walks out to attack you, you snipe down the engi…

You can kill minion masters easily with any sustain class (ele/engi/warrior) since they don’t deal enough damage to kill you on those classes.
As a thief, you just have to keep the minions constantly moving by LoS’ing, jumping in, LoS’ing and repeat.

buddy it’s easy to counter, ya’ just gotta use that brain.

Can you explain your tactics against a turret engie on a point please? I’m a shatter mesmer and I can only get the ones that really suck. Thumper turret is a pain, I know I shouldn’t tried to beat it on the point but when there is more than one turret engie in a team I don’t see what I should do other than try to beat it.

Medi guardian blows turret up easily. Even if engi spread those turrets, engi die very easily against medi guards.

Many power builds that are good at keeping pressure can kill the engi. Engi has zero blocks or invulnerability. It is simply a dps race between you and the turret.

Power ranger is one of the easiest counters to turrets.

No, I beat several turret engis back when I was a noob power ranger…
With the trait, you have the same range as the turrets and larger range than the engi, so you can position yourself so that you can take down the rocket turret without any other turrets hitting you (which is also easy to dodge). After the rocket turret is dead, the engi is an easy target.
If the engi walks out to attack you, you snipe down the engi…

You did.
But in reality, majority of LB ranger players in pvp are hugging turret engineers on point just like a thief.

I like the non-ranger players saying power rangers counter turret engies “easily”.

A/ They don’t even know that a full #2 of the LB does not even kill a rocket turret (remember : 7.4k health, -33% damage, no crits, no vulnerability). Killing all the turrets of a smart engy (a turret engy that places its turrets correctly) takes at least 20s. He owns the point during that time.

B/ All far/close points offer easy access to LoS. Some (like Foefire cascades) even offer LoS by being on the point. You will not kill a turret engy from a distance.

==> A+B means that killing a smart turret engy takes you at least 30s as a power ranger (if you manage to do it) when you’re not mid. If you need more than 30s 1v1 on a point that is not yours, you are a liability to your team. Especially as a glasscanon that will get instant downed when an ennemy zerk (thief, mesmer, ranger, guard) will rotate on you.

On top of that :

C/ Turret engies have a TON of hard and soft CCs (immobs, launch, stuns). Look there, at “counters” : http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_Read_the_Wind_Power_Ranger

D/ Turret engies run Soldier runes. So they don’t drop fast, and they still have a ton of Power, and the rifle is both ranged and painful. Don’t forget that anything hurts a pew pew ranger.

If we’re talking bad power rangers vs bad turret engis, then of course the bad turret engi will win. The whole issue with AI builds is that they scale horribly with skill level – there’s little difference between a good and bad turret engi compared to say a good and bad mesmer.

Learn and adapt. Turret engis have their weaknesses like anything else. If they leave turrets at other points they are gimping themselves quite a bit in whatever pt they are actually fighting at.

They should be removed. Just not for the reason stated. AI builds lead to bad and lazy players. Anet really shouldn’t be encouraging that by leaving those builds in game with them being so viable.

Not really they just do in this game, Meepo and Brood for example are probably some of the more difficult heroes.

All AI (pets, minions, turrets, etc) need to be micro managed, with illusions perhaps being an exception. They don’t want to do this for the casual players, but even for those it should feel like an achievement if they master it. And even if they don’t it’s not like you need to master anything to succeed in pve, which a part from top fractals (AI isn’t used here anyways) is easy.

Off topic: Broodmother isn’t exactly a hard hero, just dont feed spiderlings. If want micro intensive, along with Meepo, Chen or Brewmaster would be a better example.
