I believe that for any new players that get into PvP, it is too much to learn to play their class because any free to play player will get turned off by the fact that the elite spec gives too much of an advantage. You might argue that core build can work against builds that include elite specs but that is only true because you have experience in the mechanics of the game, which any new player severely lacks off. Furthermore, I am of the opinion that the elite specs caused a bit too much imbalance within the game. At the time between July 2014 balance update and the release of HoT, there seems to be more variety than now. Wouldn’t the players get this variety back if a game mode cut the elite specs loose ?

Better solution: nerf the elite specs.
