I saw this on the GW2 Reddit and I must say that I am extremely happy with this bug. Not just for the laurels, but because I actually got to enjoy some tPvP with my WvW guild buddies.
Anyways the reddit post has a lot of great ideas:

Yes this bug was magnificent! Yesterday 20+ new people by the end of the day were trying tpvp once they found out that the spvp monthly was giving 10 extra laurels. Most of them enjoyed themselves as well which was a good thing. For once I didn’t feel separated by the rest of the gw2 community by doing mostly spvp. I personally think that they should raise the laurel prices of current laurel items, and make it so the monthly/daily pvp stack. Once Anet took away gems from tourneys it took away any incentive that a non-pvp player would ever need to justify separating them selves from the rest of the game by doing spvp. It has been fun teaching some guild members how tourneys work and at one point we had two different teams in the guild trying to fight each other.
I think this “bug” should be a regular thing for all months. Basically, have each of PvP and PvE monthlies reward 10 laurels every month, for a total of 20 if you do both. As a WvW/PvE player, I normally ignore SPvP and TPvP, but with this laurel reward I was actually incentivized to do it, and went in, won some tourneys, and had a good time. If it stayed this way, I think it’d be a good thing for the SPvP and TPvP communities.
I think for sPvP activity, awarding laurels for the monthly and daily on top of the ones already gotten from the PvE monthly / daily, is the best thing that could happen. This alone will keep sPvP from dying, and some PvEers might actually like it and start playing sPvP while they wouldn’t have done it otherwise.
The downside of this is of course that there will be whiners who will complain because someone else got more laurels than they did, and they’ll whine about “being forced to play PvP” . This is all quite predictable and probably the reason that these extra laurels will never be given again.
I completely agree. I’m one of those players that doesn’t spend a lot of time in PVP (I do some WvW, but mostly do PvE). I was rank 4, but the pvp daily rewards don’t give me anything to help PvE, so I kind’ve just stopped. I had a lot of fun doing pvp last night, it was a nice change of pace. And at the end of the day, laurels were awarded, and I said to myself, “I’m going to try to spread this out more next month, maybe do a match or two a day”. Today I read that it was a bug, and it made me a little sad. I’ll probably try to squeeze a match or two in now and again, but I have to admit the laurels were a big incentive!
I might change the structure of the monthly achievement a little bit…say, make it require 5 daily achievement completions (they did this with the PvE monthly when laurels came out).
Well the issue is they need to implement it properly.
People like me, who actually do the PvP dailies/monthlies, got totally screwed by this “bug.” I finished the monthly two days before the patch, so I didn’t get this magical extra ten laurels.
Sure, I’m all for implementing something to incentivize PvP, but do it in a way that doesn’t shaft people who normally do the thing in the first place.
The downside to this are players just going into tPVP matches and AFK dead on the floor just to get the end game credit. Saw this several times yesterday.

This is exactly what I was afraid of: PVErs who join PVP for the reward and couldn’t care less about playing PVP the way it should be played.
Blah.
This is great! I’m really hopeful that people are nice to these newer players, and help them out if needed. It would be cool to direct them to this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/List-of-players-helping-new-players/first
And as always, if anyone wants to be added to the list let me know!

Yes, I’ve seen 1 guy leave game right away, then come back mid game and leave again. They need to punish people who leave the game, they need to announce it, “blah blah has left the game”.
Its not all people disconnecting, its people hate losing or after they die once they quit.
considering you need to win a match in order to get credit for the monthly, i find it odd that they would join and just afk there.
To fix the daily from becoming an issue they can change it to 1 match victory instead of 3 matches overall.
what is the nature of the bug? i think i’ve done my pvp monthly already if that matters. Spent the last couple of days in hotjoin testing builds since quickness nerf, i hope i didn’t miss out on something!
From what I reason that reddit it’s a bug that allows pvers who already completed the monthly laurel reward can get an extra10 from pvp.
There was a bug last where you couldn’t revive after death, people loved it to say the least while it lasted
seriously devs, this should really be kept in permanently. there is so many new people entering tournaments. and a lot of them are having fun playing it.
spvp needs incentives like this to get people to try it out. spvp is a different game (gear is set up differently, different builds are effective, you need to learn the maps etc.). most people try a match or two, dont really get whats going on, leave and never come back.
Laurels would sure make a lot of them stick around for a bit. they would learn more about it and the player-base for tpvp would grow.
Let’s not get out of control with the suggestion to make it permanent. I know most people in this subforum are going to be dedicated PvPers, but keep in mind that all those “extra” folks you’re talking about are not. I know I have friends who would be very, very, very upset at the idea of being forced to PvP for what are largely PvE rewards (ascended items).
Yes, encouraging PvP is good, but no one should feel like they HAVE to do it, and making it so that you could only max out on laurels by doing both would really go against the core game idea of being able to play however you want.
It’s great that PvP players will now have access to the flavor items and non-PvE stuff that laurel vendors sell, but don’t imagine that PvE players are all just secretly dying to PvP. They’re not. A few of them may have found a new way to enjoy the game; leave it at that.
If we should learn anything from this, it’s that an occasional special one-time event for PvP is a great way to draw new people into it. Not that forcing people to PvP is good. Like I said—don’t get carried away! :P

Forced?
Forced is having to play wvw in order to make your legendary.
This is just some bonus that wasn’t supposed to happen and I still see people crying about having to pvp.
Pvers are worse than we are when it comes to complaining.

Yes, encouraging PvP is good, but no one should feel like they HAVE to do it….
If they made this “bug” an actual part of the game you would not be “forced” to do anything. You can still gain laurels from doing pve dailies and the pve monthly, so you will still have access to everything that those who participate in pvp would have access to. It will take you longer to get those things, but that’s the price you will have to pay for avoiding a certain aspect of the game.
I, for instance, will not be getting my pve monthly completed because I don’t have any crafting on any of my characters. I do every pve daily when I log in and I’ve done every pve monthly since I started playing, but I don’t want to craft. I still have other sources of gaining laurels, so I am not forced to complete the pve monthly to get them.
It’s the exact same thing with pvp.
With that said, the pve and pvp laurel rewards should be equal. I think both dailies should give 1 laurel every day upon completion because pvpers have no need for laurels, and pvers have no reward for participating in pvp if they can get the reward already for doing what they prefer to do; pve. I also think raising the prices on some of the laurel rewards would be a very good idea, so that you cannot obtain the highest rewards after only a few days of dailies and monthlies.

So it was a bug? You mean they took it out? You mean they dissed the spvp community once AGAIN?
GROAN
I was trying to prove to my son that the game wasn’t completely dead – he’s 27 and won’t play again until spvp is fixed – he’s good… very very good and this game is an insult to some players with no 1v1 matches to really prove who is the “best”.
Going on points, not getting laurels, not getting anything in pvp is over for me too, I’ve even bought another game – and I never though that would happen while I still played this game – I can’t sit through this over and over and over even when winning and get absolutely nothing.
I am doing this game for physical therapy (hands don’t work well, severe pain, etc) and for the mental stimulation that my brain needs (really).
Thanks for the game Anet but you’ve dropped the ball badly on this game as far as pvp all the way around from this very important issue as well as the rest of the issues such as the health pool being amazingly small in spvp/tourney…
If you put all the issues together from all the players I wonder where spvp/tourney stacks up as an issue that players are universally not happy with if you ask them… and Anet doesn’t ask – nor do any of them seem to care.

Not getting laurels…
You still get laurels…
So your memoir sort of falls on the first hurdle.

Only for monthly achievements… that’s not enough to keep pvp’ers going at all.
