Playing pvp from start and after all those updates presented as “Uber game changing pvp love ohmygawd esports patches” ended up with a load of crap i would say we all have better to wait until patch for getting excited…i don’t believe anymore until i see with my own eyes…not in this game…
What looks great on paper usually is not – conversely those thief nerfs…lol…thieves will be just fine. New OP thief spec inc…I assure you.
I really do not care what happens. I just want the current meta changed. The patch notes are a great step in that direction.

edit – engi buffs? I lose perma vigor (the old version of it) and my best adept trait is moved up to master. How was I buffed again? Oh yeah…transmute right? Depends on how you look at it but I could argue that is yet another nerf. Either way, I get to explore new builds. Perhaps you should do the same.
2nd edit – per the Diamond Skin….apply direct damage to the ele before condi spamming maybe? It is not as if eles are renowned for massive health pools.

Mainhand sword 2 deserved a nerf due to its braindead “out of jail” spam but i think good thieves would still be able to use it effectively and 33% faster init recharge it’s definately a nice buff….thieves were already good (If played properly not just spamming 2 and 3 all day) before s/d and that kitten must disappear along with many other braindead specs like lb/hammer war and spirit ranger….with condition nerf and init buff you’ll still see thieves around, sure it won’t be as easy as spamming 2 keys all day and is not going to be a must for every pve hero around…but good ones would still be good…and bads are just going to move to the next fotm…as usual

So the condi meta has kind of been dead for a while now…condition builds are still pretty decent, but “condi meta” is misleading unless referring to the July to mid September period. And even that was only two builds, necro and spirit ranger.
After reading the December patch draft, Ive gotta say, Im excited to see how pvp changes!
It’s a step, but suuuch a small step especially after a full year of the devs learning how to tweak this game.
It’s still going to be burst verse bunker verse condi spams and that is what makes the game soooo much worse than other MMO’s PvP, at least imo.
Every meta will either be leaning towards either a CC/burst meta, a bunker meta or a condi meta…
And all of them suck largely, in their own ways.
(bunker and condi are unbearable, CC/burst just sucks, allot.)
Anet hasn’t really taken a single step to fix that though, and all their attempts at new maps came out TERRIBLY wrong, like their worst maps are the ones they made after release…

Just speaking historically, don’t get your hopes up. There will never be a patch that fixes everything. This patch has a lot of things getting mixed up, it will probably take a subsequent patch to get it balanced out.

and dont forget that anet does not reiterate previous balance decisions. traits or skills nerfed before dont get relooked under the new circumstances!
I am also very happy with these changes or at least I hope they will truly come to life. I only play mesmer and ele in pvp, so I will definitely enjoy that.
Balance passes shake things up. That is good. When people are playing around with different builds and seeing what they can do the game is more fun.
Staleness and long times between patches are bad, because it just gets boring to run the same old thing once you find the optimum point.

I think we’ve tweaked enough things to shake-up the meta, and the work our team has been putting into the reward system means we now have incentive to play outside of owning people (which, to me, is still satisfying). Mixed in with the changes to matchmaking – we’re definitely headed in the right direction.

This finally a real step in the right direction! Not just pressing lightly on the sand trying not to make a print.
There are some unfavourable things, and some things have been reversed but if this shave to power creep continues I’m willing to start playing seriously again.

if you play a thief you would not be excited at all.
Quit complaining about it thats what happens when you get used to avoiding kitten tons of damage and Stun breaker that has no cd
I was excited until I realised I’ll still have to spec 20+ arcane (for Ele Attunement) and 20+ water (for Cleansing Water) in every Ele build worth a kitten . The proposed changes achieve the exact opposite of their intended purpose – before I only needed 20+ arcane/15+ water.
Thoroughly disappointed. Again.

I have a thief and even before the reversal of some descions I was fine with it and was still looking forward to it. I like the idea of thief being a high skill cap risk/reward class.
It’ll suck a little in team fights, but with proper team coordination there is nothing wrong.

Wait wait what did I miss? Last time I read the patch notes it looked like engies were receiving significant nerfs.
On topic: I’m a little excited for Dec. 10th because I think the meta’s going to get shaken to the core, which will force some serious theorycrafting to stay ahead. (It’s possible that this is actually too many changes for one patch, and the meta that emerges will be awful, but…I’m hoping that doesn’t happen.) I’m honestly more excited for Nov. 12th, though.

I’m actually excited to see how the devs want to make this game skillful. A few changes to skills won’t cut it. The game is too fast and there’s far too much spam, passiveness and rng involved. This game needs a massive overhaul, to be honest. Begin with making important skills more telegraphed, fixing all the particle stuff flying at you and rewarding the pvp-ers appropriately. These issues are actually MUCH more important than those changes to skills and traits which won’t change the key issues this game currently has anyway.

The game has only gotten less skillful.
That doesn’t seem to be soon-to-change as Anet attempts to solve more problems with passive traits.

There’s a reason next to every serious PvP’er left GW2.
It’s kinda sad. There’s absolutely ZERO competition. You can pick a class, play it for a week and be as good as someone who played since beta. You just go through your skill rotation and spam your stuff because most of the time you can’t react to your enemy properly anyway.

Anyone who thinks thieves are getting a 33% buff to initiative doesn’t have a firm grasp of math. On usable specs it’s a wash at best. That’s all I’ll say about it. Grouch is excited about the patch because thieves will be even more easy-mode kills for engineers. I’ll still melt face with d/p but where the hell is the build diversity?

until we get Duels and Arenas, there wont be much to do in this game.

Meaning Anet could toss all specs but a handful, I mean, make every other spec non-existant, and then work on getting those few specs to a place of dynamic, engaging gameplay that can fit multiple map styles…
And I would be happy.
So many specs, so many top tier specs are utter trash to play and so many things in this game kitten on new map ideas; yet Anet seems soo focused on balancing everything out that they can’t even start to fix it.
To fix the only issue that matters…
Gameplay.
MMOs have been half (if that!!) as balanced as GW2 and done fine… because among their shenanigans they had solid gameplay and a team based focus. GW2 is drowning in top tier cheese, bad animations, bad maps and a crappy, crappy meta setup (burst vs condi vs bunker, always and forever) It means Anet has to spoon feed the game, to get the meta to even mildly shift… to some other set of extremes, and if the meta even starts to lean towards condi or bunker… everyone loses.

The current PvP format that is implement isn’t working.
You know it is failing, and failing HARD, when you watch a “semi-pro” cup, and there are only 200 people watching xD
Just watching blizzcom, and they had 41k watching they’re 3v3 Arenas. And you know? I actually enjoy watching that, unlike the boring GW2 sPvP.
I’m just sad, cause I love the game, and it had potential, but it will to late allready when Anet open they’re eyes.
I give it a couple more months until sPvP dies for good.

What game are you playing? Not a single class in GW2 requires skill to master, which is the number one problem with the game. Give me a week and I will apparently play a mesmer skillfully.

And the changes are not enough to bring any build diversity, the builds will be the same… 30 points in critical strikes will still be mandatory to any dps thief.
Venomous aura is in shadow arts when it’s supposed to be in deadly arts…
I don’t even want to continue with thieves trait discussion because they are a complete mess…
Anyway, there will always be a patch ( I hope this continues every 2 weeks ) and there will always be a new meta, we just need to ADAPT… Every class will be nerfed someday and will be overpower the next day… That’s what happens with every MMO…
