the mists f2p till r10
so what exactly are you suggesting and how would “charging” for mists after r10 help?
Make pvp f2p and get more players in the game? The goal must be to get players from lol, dota … Into gw2!
are you talking of paid tpvp? cus atm thats (the dont want to use this phrase) end game of the mists
if your looking to get new players then the “end game” paid tournaments shouldnt hinder this
but again im going to have to ask you to explain abit better as to what you mean your being very vague
Getting players to the mist isn’t the problem, it’s been keeping them there.
more modes will do this, deathmatch, capture the flag, arena’s ect
i would like to see a higher tier of gear that you can straight up buy so you save up for that bit of armor you really want.. not i’ll buy x amount of boxes see what i get or lets forge this see what random thing i get from it
“The goal must be to get players from lol, dota … Into gw2!”
Why are there so many topics talking about dota or lol and how gw2 should follow in its footsteps or how it should take people from these games? GW2 is NOT (!!!) moba its an mmorpg, so why do people insist on this stupid idea that it is comparable? How about “The goal must be to get players from counter-strike into gw2?” makes the same amount of sense…
This won’t actually help that much until there is some sort of “solo queue” implemented into the tournament system. Without it, new players would just get queued up against high ranking teams and get discouraged.
There are a lot of Threads regarding this topic already. In general, I think GW2 could eventually implement a f2p-pvp feature, but there are certain things to consider:
- If a game you have to pay for goes F2P, it’s often regarded as a failure and ppl think this is a last desperate attempt to get any players before it eventually dies. If I see a game like Warhammer: Online, SWtOR or Aion go F2P, I think to myself: “well, this game obviously sucks and has no players – why would I play it; even if it’s for free?”
- Going F2P so early after many players bought the game, could lead to the ppl that actually bought it being frustrated and they’d probably expect some sort of gift from ANet to make up for it.
- GW2 lacks a lot of very important e-Sport-Features: Even if players think: “nice, it’s F2P – let’s check it out!” They might leave soon after, because there are tons of F2P-games (especially the MOBA’s), that have the common e-Sport-Features.
- Going F2P has to be timed very well and it needs to be communicated and advertised to potential Players – there’s a lot of planning, advertising-cost etc. involved.
- ANet would also have to make sure, that they have enough incentive for Players to invest money into the game, even if they only play PvP. It also needs to be done in a certain way that doesn’t lead to Money invested>skill, because no serious PvP-player will play a game like that. Atm. I’ve heard that PvP-Players invest a much smaller amount of Money into GW2 than the PvE-Players (with that I mean buying Gems for real Cash). They need to make sure that they can make Money off of Players that got the Game for free; ANet isn’t a charity, it’s a company!

I think some of the basic infrastructure of what would make a good stand-alone PvP game is not there yet. Until they got that out of the way, I think the other posters are right in that it may actually worsen people’s view of GW2 if they can’t experience all the other aspects of the game along with it.

I like to think that the main reason of this is there isn’t any real incentive or cool cosmetic/craft booster etc… marketed towards pvp’ers and people who play in the mists
more items targeted towards mist players might make more potential money from pvp. i mean come-on who really buys the cow finisher they can do better
I think the better question is: Why would anyone PAY to play any kind of bugged PVP? Fix the class issues, then we’ll talk.
sorry to say that but going paids at r10- it’s like going to the slaughter, probably even at r20 (Sure maybe someone just want to farm last place chests, but i don’t even consider those losers, if you join something it’s for trying to win not to farm last prize)….you can learn more playing free…go free tpvp, and first of all learn how stuff works, it doesn’t matter if you’re a so called “pro” in pve…pvp it’s a totally different story, everyone can kill mobs…but in pvp you have to do many things and killing ppl (Already way more hard than ai mobs) it’s just one part of the work….in paids you’re just going to be anihilated before you even know what happened, i personally think new players have better to start with soft stuff first…

F2P before they add anything to keep the casuals will fail.

F2P before they add anything to keep the casuals will fail.
Casuals without a pvp guild and a good team to play with are going to fail in paids, atm paid tourneys are not for casuals…..and i have to say that if you look at high end pvp in other games, first of all gw1 HA, the story is the same….casuals are going to be facerolled in high level pvp by organized teams playing togheter over and over again everyday…..pve is for casuals because it’s always the same…in pvp ppl grow up becoming better and better and a casual player without a stable team and role would never compete with them…you can be good as a casual, but you’ll need other 4 ppl really good knowing each other to do something in high level pvp…team tactic is as important as personal skills in tpvp…so casuals lack at last of a 50%..
